James to start for Chelsea in Blackburn League Cup tie
  + stars: | 2023-10-31 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
"I can confirm he is going to start," Pochettino told reporters on Tuesday. With just three wins in 10 Premier League games, Chelsea are in 11th place, 14 points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur. "To go through the competition (League Cup) is important, then go to Tottenham and receive Manchester City to get momentum." Pochettino takes Chelsea to face his old club Spurs in the league on Monday but the Argentine won't let that influence his team selection for the League Cup game on Wednesday. The five-time League Cup winners beat AFC Wimbledon and Brighton & Hove Albion in the previous rounds.

Investors should not jump to offload Apple (AAPL) shares because of a handful of cautious reports ahead of this week's quarterly results. Jim Cramer points out that this has been happening since the first iPhone was released in 2007 and even before that. Even in high-conviction stocks like Apple, we do the homework to constantly test our investment thesis against new developments. "It's a classic negative piece on the company that crystalizes the 'hate Apple trade' that's been going on," Cramer wrote in his Top 10 Things to Watch Tuesday. President Joe Biden announced Monday a $1.3 billion federal investment to build three new interstate power lines in an effort to upgrade the United States' outdated electric grid and transition it to clean energy. The department said the construction of the power lines would create roughly 13,000 new jobs. U.S. energy infrastructure was already in need of an upgrade. The $1.3 billion investment is a step in the right direction, but it does not mean three new power lines will magically appear. Federal agencies, along with the Biden administration, have previously said they would work to expedite federal permitting processes to make grid infrastructure development more efficient.

Club holding Broadcom 's (AVGO) investment prospects look bright – with or without cloud software maker VMWare (VMW) under its corporate roof. For now, though, the companies remain apart after Broadcom's planned $61 billion takeover of VMWare did not close Monday, as previously scheduled. AVGO YTD mountain Broadcom YTD With VMWare, Broadcom would be a company with sales split roughly 50-50 between its traditional semiconductor division — an artificial intelligence beneficiary — and software, which typically is higher-margin revenue. Without VMWare, Broadcom would have freed up its capacity to reward shareholders in a different, but still meaningful, way. Even with the buyback silver lining, our hope is Broadcom completes the VMWare deal because it should boost Broadcom's earnings over time.

Former President Donald J. Trump still has a huge lead in Iowa, according to a poll released Monday, but Nikki Haley has surged to tie Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida for a distant second place. Mr. DeSantis and Ms. Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and former United Nations ambassador, are tied at 16 percent. That is a decline of three percentage points for Mr. DeSantis and an increase of 10 points for Ms. Haley, driven in part by increasing support for Ms. Haley among independent voters. The poll was conducted by J. Ann Selzer and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.

The special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) unveiled plans earlier this year to combine with London Innovation Underwriters and raise additional funds to deploy in the Lloyd's of London insurance market. The deal by Financials Acquisition Corp differs from a typical SPAC merger because the company has set up London Innovation Underwriters itself. It is not the first time that public market investors in London have backed a new insurance venture. In 2020, Conduit Holdings (CRE.L) listed on the London Stock Exchange, subsequently starting reinsurance activities. UBS and HSBC are joint global coordinators to the Financials Acquisition deal.

Pichai, whom Google called as a star witness, opened his testimony by recounting his journey from Chennai, India to Google and his path to becoming the tech company’s CEO in 2015. “The correlation was pretty clear to see,” Pichai said, before Google attorney John Schmidtlein presented an internal email from 2010 showing research that users who switched from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer performed 48% more Google searches. Users of Mozilla’s Firefox browser that switched to Chrome performed 27% more searches on Google, the email said. Ford to add more Tesla EV chargers to its network
  + stars: | 2023-10-30 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
Oct 30 (Reuters) - Ford Motor (F.N) said on Monday it would add more of Tesla's Superchargers to its electric-vehicle charging network, higher than previously forecast, as automakers tap into the EV leader's sprawling charger network to expand the range of their cars. Ford will now add over 15,000 of Tesla's Superchargers to its network, up from its earlier projection of 12,000 chargers. These three providers would bring more than 10,000 new chargers to the network, including more than 550 new DC fast chargers. BlueOval combines multiple charging networks to provide access to the largest North American public charging network offered by automotive manufacturers. The development comes months after Ford struck a deal with Tesla to allow EV owners gain access to the biggest network of high-speed Superchargers in the United States in early 2024.

From the moment his cryptocurrency empire collapsed in November, Sam Bankman-Fried didn’t stop talking. Against the advice of his defense lawyers, Mr. Bankman-Fried embarked on a lengthy press tour to explain the failure of his FTX cryptocurrency exchange, giving interviews to TV anchors and obscure Twitter personalities. On Friday, Mr. Bankman-Fried, 31, made an even riskier call: He took the stand to testify at his criminal fraud trial in federal court in New York. But he also acknowledged that he had made missteps, citing “significant oversights” that hurt FTX customers. Wearing a gray suit and purple tie, his famously tousled hair cut short by a fellow inmate at the Brooklyn jail where he is detained, Mr. Bankman-Fried said he “made a number of small mistakes, and a number of larger mistakes.”

Imagine if Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the crypto trading firm FTX and defendant in one of the largest financial fraud trials in history, was actually named Samson, rather than Samuel. Like the biblical character, Mr. Bankman-Fried’s symbolic shearing for his courtroom appearance may become a fabled reflection of promise brought low in the tales to come of our digital age.
