Donald Trump's adult sons, Eric and Don Jr., both took the stand at his fraud trial on Thursday. Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump himself are scheduled to testify next week. Prosecutors noted that he had signed off on documents, but again Donald Jr. testified he trusted the lawyers and accountants who prepped the papers. Less than an hour after prosecutors wrapped up the first son's testimony, Eric Trump took the stand and insisted he, too, had nothing to do with the documents. November 2, 2023: This story has been updated with additional context and clarifications about Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.'s statements in court.

The Swiss National Bank and the Swiss Finance Ministry are part of the conversations with lenders, one source said. A representative for the finance ministry said that the issue of bank runs is part of an overall evaluation of the too-big-to-fail regulatory framework in Switzerland. Regulators worldwide have since been grappling with the risk of bank runs, which in the era of digital banking have accelerated in speed. Financial regulators will need to make sure that banks retain adequate financial buffers as advances in technology increase the risk of bank runs, Bank of England executive director for markets, Andrew Hauser, said on Friday at a conference in London. They risk penalizing Swiss banks if they were to be introduced only in Switzerland, one of the sources said.

Donald Trump Jr. has become a high-volume defender of his namesake father, appearing often on television and social media. Eric Trump is more of a businessman than a politician, and has cast himself as the moderating voice within a polarizing family. Eric Trump has continued to attend the trial since, paying close attention to testimony about spreadsheets filled with valuations and the fine print of insurance deals. And when Eric Trump testifies this week, Ms. James’s lawyers are expected to question him aggressively on his role at the company. CNN —New House Speaker Mike Johnson is already tying Washington in new partisan knots. Johnson surprises by picking Israel funding as his first test of credibilityJohnson’s hard ball play on Israel funding came as a surprise given that some of the urgency for ending the speakership impasse last week was to swiftly clear a funding package following the Hamas attacks. The Biden administration on Tuesday formally threatened to veto the House GOP’s standalone Israel aid bill. The inclusion of the offsets could indicate that Johnson needs to placate his most hardline members even to pass a measure as popular as Israel funding. Some other Senate conservatives are also at odds with their leader, backing the decoupling of Israel and Ukraine aid.
