CNN —The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers said late Wednesday that negotiations with SAG-AFTRA — the union representing about 160,000 actors — have been suspended. The suspension came after the actors’ union presented its latest proposal to the AMPTP, according to the statement. SAG-AFTRA presented few, if any, moves on the numerous remaining open items.”In this round of negotiations, AMPTP said it had made a list of offers to the union that included a “first-of-its-kind success-based residual for High-Budget SVOD productions” and several AI protections. SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since July 14, joining the fray a little more than two months after the writers’ strike began. The writers’ strike ended in late September, and members of the Writers Guild of America ratified a new contract with Hollywood and television studios on October 9.

This week, members of the WGA approved a new three-year contract with major studios, five months after the union called a strike. CNBC Select explains the drawbacks of buying a lottery ticket with a credit card and what to do instead. A credit card cash advance is when you withdraw money from your credit card, essentially borrowing cash against your card's line of credit. Cash advance fees typically amount to 3% or 5% of the total cash advance withdrawn. "If you use your credit card for these transactions, you may be charged a cash advance fee and a potentially higher cash advance interest rate." In a number of states, including Massachusetts and Georgia, buying a lottery ticket with a credit card is illegal.

The legislation in New York also follows actions taken by other U.S. states this year to curb social media use among children. In March, Utah became the first state to pass laws that require minors to get parental consent before using social media. The U.S. Supreme Court is preparing to decide whether state attempts to regulate social media platforms violate the Constitution. UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Russia faces a tough fight to regain a seat in the U.N.’s premiere human rights body in Tuesday’s election in the General Assembly, which voted last year to suspend Moscow after its invasion of Ukraine. Human Rights Watch said last week that Russia and China are unfit to serve on the Human Rights Council. The New York-based watchdog said China’s rights record should also disqualify it from the Human Rights Council. The Writers Guild of America announced Monday that 99% of the 8,525 members who cast ballots voted to ratify the deal. Writers guild leaders urged studios to grant actors' demands and said their members would picket alongside them until a deal was reached. The writers' new contract runs thorough May 1, 2026, three years after their previous contract expired and they went on strike. Two days later, when the board members voted to approve the agreement and send it to members, the strike was declared over and writers were released to work.

CNN —Members of the Writers Guild of America union ratified a new contract with Hollywood and television studios, the WGA said in a statement released Monday. Trump is angry that Forbes kicked him off of its list of wealthiest Americans. Forbes says Trump just isn't worth enough money, especially because his social media play fizzled. AdvertisementAdvertisementDonald Trump on Monday lashed out at Forbes after the financial publication recently dropped the former president from its list of the 400 wealthiest Americans that includes the likes of Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Warren Buffett. One of the main reasons was that Truth Social, the very social media platform where Trump lashed out at Forbes, has lost significant value. A spokesperson for Forbes pointed Insider to the publication's own story, which included a statement that defended Forbes' view of Trump's net worth.

Just as Hollywood's writers and studios reached a tentative deal to return to work after nearly 150 days, a new strike was brewing. More than 75,000 health-care workers walked off the job Wednesday at Kaiser Permanente, the nation's largest non-profit health-care organization, driven in part by demands for higher pay in the midst of staffing shortages, which left employees burned out. At the same time, the United Auto Workers strike is ongoing, marking three weeks since the first-ever simultaneous walk out against the Detroit Three. In the last few months alone, striking or threatening to strike has led to a string of labor deals where UPS drivers, airline pilots and aerospace manufacturing employees have pushed for and won higher pay. House Republicans are scheduled to meet behind closed doors Monday evening to try to regain control of their majority ahead of possible speaker votes this week. “House Republicans need to unite and show the country that we’re fighting for them,” Jordan said Sunday on Fox News. While the full House ultimately votes on the new speaker, the position usually falls to a person from the party with the House majority. The rules around the temporary speaker position have been untested before, though they appear to indicate the main power in the role is to ensure the election of a new speaker. But if House Republicans are unable to quickly agree on a speaker, McHenry could be in the position for some time.

Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador repeatedly denies his country is producing the synthetic opioid despite enormous evidence to the contrary.
