An industrial cleaning company accused by federal investigators of hiring dozens of children to clean slaughterhouses during the graveyard shift has resolved the allegations with the U.S. Department of Labor, according to a federal court filing filed Tuesday morning. The company will also provide a new child labor provision in its contracts with clients and will notify the Labor Department as to how many employees it terminated as a result of its compliance with child labor laws. Allegations of child labor at a slaughterhouse in Grand Island, Nebraska, date back to 2016, according to a previously unreported local police report obtained by NBC News. At least three chiildren suffered chemical burns as a result of working in the slaughterhouses, according to that complaint. The Department of Labor’s Child Labor Regulations designates many roles in slaughterhouse and meatpacking facilities as hazardous for minors.
Thirteen McDonald's franchise locations in the Pittsburgh area are accused of violating child labor laws by allegedly employing 101 14- and 15-year olds outside of permissible work hours, the Department of Labor announced Monday. The spokesperson added that, in addition to paying the fine, Santonastasso Enterprises LLC had to agree to full future compliance with department regulations. The spokesperson added that the department does not disclose if they plan to investigate other McDonald’s locations across the country. The violations follow more than 4,000 child labor violations the Department of Labor has identified affecting more than 13,000 minor workers from 2017 to 2021. A spokesperson for the company said in a statement that PSSI has "zero tolerance" for such violations.
CNN —Spanning decades, “Unveiled: Surviving La Luz Del Mundo” is another #MeToo story, this time on a disturbingly epic scale, exploring alleged sexual abuse that occurred across generations in a Guadalajara, Mexico-based mega-church, and the victims that eventually rose up to speak out. Founded in 1926, La Luz Del Mundo (Spanish for “The Light of the World”) says it has branches around the world, carrying the word of God from a designated apostle chosen from the ranks of its guiding family. CNN has reached out to La Luz Del Mundo for comment. While HBO’s poster for “Unveiled” features the line, “Bringing the truth into the light,” time will tell whether that light turns out to be the best disinfectant. “Unveiled: Surviving La Luz Del Mundo” premieres December 6 at 9 p.m.
New York CNN Business —A McDonald’s franchise operator has violated child labor laws, according to an investigation by the Department of Labor. Overall, 101 minors at 13 locations run by the franchisee were working in violation of child labor laws, the Labor Department said Monday. About 93% of McDonald’s locations are run by franchise operators. “Permitting young workers to work excessive hours can jeopardize their safety, well-being and education,” said John Dumont, wage and hour district director in Pittsburgh, in a statement on the investigation. “Employers who hire young workers must understand and comply with federal child labor laws or face costly consequences.”
U.S. air travelers now have until May 7, 2025, to obtain a driver's license or other government ID that complies with the federal REAL ID Act. How do you know if you have a REAL ID? Your passport will remain a suitable alternative if you do not have a REAL ID-compliant card by the new deadline, DHS says. And minors will not be required to carry a REAL ID card. According to The Washington Post, just under half of Americans currently have REAL ID-compliant cards.

The new laws significantly broaden the scope of a 2013 law which banned the dissemination of LGBTQ-related information to minors. The new iteration extends the ban on promoting such information to adults as well. Under the new law, it will be banned across the internet, media, books, audiovisual services, cinema, and advertising. The European Court of Human Rights ruled in 2017 that the 2013 law is discriminatory, promotes homophobia and violates the European Convention on Human Rights. A new, expanded version of the 2012 law on foreign agents came into effect last week.
Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia apologized for what he said was a "wrong artistic choice of concept" after the luxury fashion brand was criticized over an advertising campaign that featured young children posing with teddy bears that appeared to be dressed in BDSM costumes. "It was inappropriate to have kids promote objects that had nothing to do with them," he said in an Instagram post on Friday. Many people slammed the holiday campaign as inappropriate and harmful to children. In another Balenciaga ad, there was an excerpt from a 2008 Supreme Court case that upheld federal statutes about pornography that includes minors. Kim Kardashian, who often works with the company, said in a series of tweets that she was "disgusted and outraged" over the ad.
But for Eric and many other trans people, the war has also made it much more difficult to be who they are. HRT can be used by trans women, trans men and non-binary people to make their physical appearance more aligned with their gender identity. Anastasiia Yeva Domani is the co-founder of Cohort, a Ukrainian trans rights group. While trans Ukrainians still experience negative attitudes in some spaces, for example in shelters housing families, according to COHORT, the discriminatory Russian rhetoric has pushed more Ukrainians to speak up. The group launched a hotline for LGBTQ+ Ukrainians and opened an LGBTQ+ friendly shelter.
A top state security body meanwhile said that 200 people, including members of the security forces, had lost their lives in the unrest, a figure significantly lower than that given by the world body and rights groups. Amirali Hajizadeh, a senior Revolutionary Guards commander was quoted as saying on Monday that 300 people, including security force members, had been killed in the recent unrest. Javaid Rehman, a U.N.-appointed independent expert on Iran, said on Tuesday that more than 300 people had been killed in the protests, including more than 40 children. Rights group HRANA said that as of Friday 469 protesters had been killed, including 64 minors. Kitna, 19, returned with his parents, retired NFL quarterback Jon Kitna and wife Jennifer, to Burleson, Texas. The Gators suspended Kitna following his arrest on Wednesday and took the step of dismissing him a day later.
Some TikTok users are destroying Balenciaga purses, shoes and other luxury products in protest of the fashion house's holiday campaign, which portrayed children holding plush bears dressed in leather harnesses. The campaign was criticized as inappropriate and harmful to children because the teddy bears appeared to be dressed in kink gear. Balenciaga apologized for the campaign last month, suggesting on Instagram that it hadn’t approved the images before the campaign went live. “Our plush bear bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign,” the company said. On TikTok, creators who were formerly loyal to Balenciaga posted videos admonishing it.
Curtis Brown“We’re trying to smile and make people happy for the holidays, and in the back of our heads we’re thinking, ‘I hope I don’t get shot,’” said Jinkx Monsoon, winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season five and “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” season seven. For months, many right-wing lawmakers, media personalities and activists have accused LGBTQ people — and drag performers in particular — of “grooming,” “indoctrinating” and “sexualizing” children. Latrice Royale, who has appeared on both “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” reasoned that the backlash is due to the greater visibility of drag brought on by the global success of the RuPaul-led competition shows, which have spinoffs in at least 16 other countries. Drag performers who have hosted events that have catered to children, such as Drag Story Hours at public libraries or family-friendly drag brunches, have particularly drawn the ire of conservative protesters. Them.”BenDeLaCreme, who appeared on the sixth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and the third season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” shared a similar sentiment.
"We are sort of a little low-key like a fox," said Hoffman, adding that the animals are also excellent hunters. "In down markets we really prove the benefit of the kind of slow, steady, conceptual and intellectual approach that we take," said Hoffman. Fund history and strategy Marshfield Associates is a Washington D.C.-based firm founded in 1989 by Niemczewski, who's now joined by Hoffman and another principal, Chad Goldberg. While Morningstar classifies the fund in the growth category, Marshfield regards itself as value-oriented with a stress on company quality. "I think what you're seeing this year is the outcome of what happens when you have an investor like us, that is very different from the market," Hoffman said.
Kim Kardashian says she is “re-evaluating” her relationship with Balenciaga in light of the brand’s recent ad campaign that featured images of young children posing with teddy bears that appeared to be wearing BDSM-inspired accessories. “We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused,” read the statement, which was shared last week. “Our plush bear bag should not have been featured with children in this campaign. While Balenciaga did not reference this text specifically in its statement, the brand apologized for “displaying unsettling documents” in the recent campaign. Kardashian has collaborated frequently with Balenciaga, appearing in the brand’s campaigns and wearing Balenciaga on the red carpet.
DUBAI, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Iran will reject a newly-appointed independent U.N. investigation into the country's repression of anti-government protests, the foreign ministry said on Monday, as demonstrations showed no sign of abating. "Iran will have no cooperation with the political committee formed by the U.N. Rights Council," ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said. The U.N. Rights Council voted on Thursday to appoint a probe into Iran's deadly crackdown on protests. Iran has proof that Western nations were involved in protests that have swept the country, Kanaani said on Monday. He did not say whether that figure also included deaths among other security forces such as the Revolutionary Guards.
Ranking Member Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) speaks during a Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security hearing on Protecting Kids Online: Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube on October 26, 2021 in Washington, DC. Dozens of civil society groups urged lawmakers in a letter on Monday against passing a bill that aims to protect children from online harm, warning the bill itself could actually inflict further danger on kids and teens. The American Civil Liberties Union, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Fight for the Future and Wikimedia Foundation were among the groups that wrote to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Senate Commerce Committee Chair Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., and Ranking Member Roger Wicker, R-Miss., opposing the Kids Online Safety Act. Sites would have to let their young users know when parental tools are in effect. The KOSA opponents warned that prescriptive parental controls could be harmful to kids in abusive situations.
When you hear "trust" you may think of a "trust fund baby" whose family money keeps them afloat. You don't need to be wealthy to protect and direct your assets — anyone can use a trust. We definitely don't need a trust," my husband said, looking at me like I had mentioned a private plane or five-star holiday. So, I reached out to Jala Eaton, an estate planning lawyer and founder of On My Own Financial. You've probably heard of "trust-fund babies" — those lucky, independently wealthy folks who live off the family trust.

AL RAYYAN, Qatar, Nov 27 (Reuters) - The United States Soccer Federation temporarily displayed Iran's national flag on social media without the emblem of the Islamic Republic as a show of solidarity with protesters in Iran ahead of the two teams' World Cup clash on Tuesday. The intent of the posts was to show "support for the women in Iran fighting for basic human rights", U.S. Soccer media officer Michael Kammarman told a news conference on Sunday. The banner on U.S. Soccer's Twitter page was also changed on Saturday to feature the flag without the emblem. MOSCOW—Russia’s parliament passed a bill that expands restrictions on anything perceived as promoting gay issues or same-sex relationships among Russians of all ages, a move that activists say will encourage further hostility toward the country’s already beleaguered LGBT community. Previous legislation outlawed what authorities called “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations” to minors, introduced in 2013. On Thursday, the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, extended the prohibition to all age groups and introduced new bans on what the legislation calls “propaganda on pedophilia and gender reassignment,” according to information about the bill published by the parliament.
The revised bill bans spreading "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" to people of any age. The bill prohibiting the promotion of "non-traditional sexual relations" builds upon a notorious law passed in 2013, which took aim at "propaganda" spread to minors. Under the new law passed by the State Duma, films, and advertisements depicting same-sex relationships could be banned. Russian citizens found to have spread propaganda about "non-traditional sexual relations" could face a fine of up to 400,000 rubles, or $6,600 at current exchange rates. Human-rights organizations have condemned Russia for the so-called "gay propaganda" law since its introduction.
