CNN Business —Two victims injured when a car drove into an Apple store filed lawsuits Tuesday morning claiming various development companies failed to protect people by not installing barriers near the store. One person died and at least 19 others were injured after an SUV drove through an Apple store in Hingham, Massachusetts, on November 21, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. Sheff showed pictures of barriers at different Apple store locations and other areas in the Hingham shopping complex, arguing they should have been at the Hingham Apple store as well. The lawsuits accuse several property development entities of negligence, claiming they “failed to reasonably protect occupants” by not installing barricades near the store. One lawsuit filed by a non-employee accuses Apple of negligence, alleging it failed to reasonably protect the store’s occupants.
A jury found Oath Keepers founder Elmer Stewart Rhodes guilty of engaging in a seditious conspiracy. Three other members of the far-right group were found not guilty of joining in that conspiracy. Rhodes was convicted of seditious conspiracy alongside Kelly Meggs, another member of the Oath Keepers. "Now, going forward, there are people higher up than the Oath Keepers who were potentially involved in the conspiracy," he told Insider. Just as he distanced himself from Oath Keepers who entered the Capitol, Rhodes sought to downplay the far-right group's references to quick reaction forces, or QRFs, in his testimony before jurors.
Donald Trump has steadfastly settled a number of major legal headaches in the lead-up to his 2024 run. In the lead-up to his announcement this month announcing a third presidential run, he cleared many of them away. Trump's efforts to stay in power despite the will of American voters have also drawn scrutiny in Georgia.
The Supreme Court in recent years has hemmed in prosecutors in political corruption cases including a 2020 decision to toss the convictions of two aides to Republican former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie relating to the "Bridgegate" political scandal. The charges against Percoco and Ciminelli were brought in 2016 by then-Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who also pursued corruption cases against top state lawmakers including former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. They also have asked the Supreme Court to reverse their convictions. A judge in July allowed all four to be released from prison on bail after the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case. Ciminelli's lawyers said such intangible information could not qualify as a "property fraud" under Supreme Court's precedents.
The important thing is that Twitter correct a grave mistake in banning his account, despite no violation of the law or terms of service," Musk said in a tweet. He added he would stick with his own social media site Truth Social, the app developed by Trump Media & Technology Group. At the time, Twitter said it permanently suspended him because of the risk of further incitement of violence following the storming of the Capitol. Trump repeatedly used Twitter and other sites to falsely claim there had been widespread voter fraud, and had urged supporters to march on the Capitol in Washington to protest. He has fired top managers and it was announced that senior officials in charge of security and privacy had quit.
Photo: Waldo Swiegers/Bloomberg NewsIn the U.S., the ABB deal is an early test of a pledge by the Biden administration to take a tougher stance on corporate repeat offenders. An ABB spokesman said the company continues to fully cooperate with authorities and hopes to reach a final settlement soon. Exactly how U.S. authorities, including the Justice Department, will frame the ABB deal in relation to the new stance on repeat offenders remains to be seen. Allowing the ABB parent company to avoid a guilty plea will in theory help shield much of its business globally from those risks. The ABB deal would also mark the second time the Swiss company has settled FCPA offenses with a deferred-prosecution agreement.
Western authorities have frozen about $300 billion in reserves of Russia’s central bank, pictured in Moscow. WASHINGTON—Federal prosecutors have issued a stream of subpoenas in recent months in an effort to uncover Russian oligarchs‘ assets hidden in the U.S., laying the groundwork to seize real estate, cash accounts and trust funds, say people familiar with the matter. Many of the subpoenas seek business, bank and trust records they say would help prosecutors cut through layers of complex ownership structures meant to obscure oligarchs’ holdings.

A judge ordered Riley Williams detained ahead of her sentencing in February on January 6 charges. The jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict on a charge Williams helped steal a laptop from Pelosi. In previous jury trials, Capitol rioters have been found guilty on all charges they faced, including obstruction of an official proceeding. Williams "led an army" to Pelosi's office suite, prosecutors said, where she encouraged fellow rioters to steal a laptop the speaker used for Zoom meetings. The trial featured images of rioters ransacking Pelosi's office, with some suggesting that they steal a pair of pink boxing gloves that the House speaker kept on a table.
NASSAU, Bahamas— Sam Bankman -Fried’s $32 billion crypto-trading empire collapsed in an incandescent bankruptcy last week, prompting irate customers, crypto acolytes and Silicon Valley bigwigs to ask how something that seemed so promising could have imploded so fast. The emerging picture suggests FTX wasn’t simply felled by a rival, or undone by a bad trade or the relentless fall this year in the value of cryptocurrencies. Instead, it had long been a chaotic mess. No one could say exactly what belonged to whom. Prosecutors are now investigating its collapse.
“For these defendants, the attack on the Capitol was a means to an end,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn Rakoczy told jurors. Manuel Balce Ceneta / AP fileBright told jurors there was not evidence of a "meeting of the minds" on seditious conspiracy. “We’ve had 50 witnesses in this case, not one person has testified to you there was a plan,” Bright said. Oath Keepers were upset about the results of the 2020 election, but them venting their frustrations to each other doesn’t constitute a conspiracy, Bright argued. Rhodes told you in his own words he was prepared to start a rebellion the day that president Biden took office,” Rakoczy said, referring back to Rhodes’ testimony in his own defense.

FTX’s offshore status and its willingness to keep American traders off its Bahamas-based exchange in large part shielded the company from strict U.S. laws that govern trading and how investments can be sold to the public. But FTX’s implosion last week and reports that it used customer funds to back an affiliate’s risky venture investments have exposed the company and its founder to potential criminal liability, according to attorneys who specialize in white-collar criminal law.
Under federal law, a president can retain personal records after leaving office, but these must be unrelated to official work. It is not clear from the redacted court filings exactly which documents Trump is claiming as personal. The department said Trump cannot assert executive privilege over any documents he has claimed as personal records because any such records must be unrelated to official duties. The Justice Department is appealing Cannon's decision to appoint a special master, telling the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Cannon initially barred the department from using all of the seized records for its criminal investigation until Dearie's review is complete.
