SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Charlie Robison, the Texas singer-songwriter whose rootsy anthems made the country charts until he was forced to retire after complications from a medical procedure left him unable to sing, died Sunday. Robison died at a hospital in San Antonio after suffering cardiac arrest and other complications, according to a family representative. In 1996, he released his solo debut, “Bandera,” named for the Texas Hill Country town where his family has had a ranch for generations. When he was approached by Sony in 1998, Robison signed with its Lucky Dog imprint, which was devoted to rawer country. The album, whose title refers to broken glass after a robbery, will be the first since Watts' death in August 2021. Watts, the Stones' original drummer, plays on two of the album's 12 tracks. “I don’t want to be big-headed, but we wouldn’t have put this album out if we hadn’t really liked it," he said.

MADRID, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Spain's World Cup-winning women's team coach Jorge Vilda has been sacked, the country's football federation (RFEF) said on Tuesday 10 days after FIFA suspended its president for kissing national team player Jenni Hermoso on the mouth. "The coach has been key to the remarkable growth of women's football and leaves Spain as world champions and second in the FIFA rankings," the RFEF statement said. The furore involving Rubiales has quickly spiralled into a national debate over women's rights and sexist behaviour. Vilda and Luis de la Fuente, the men's national team manager, applauded Rubiales when he refused to resign on Aug. 25 but later issued statements condemning his behaviour. Spain's top 58 female players said they would not play for the national team under the existing leadership.

The band, who formed more than six decades ago, heralded a "new album, new music, new era," on X, formerly Twitter, with details to be revealed on Wednesday. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood - the surviving core of the band - will be interviewed by Jimmy Fallon in Hackney, east London, streamed online at 1330 GMT, according to a skit featuring the U.S. chat show host answering a call on the "Stones Phone". The album will be the first since the death of drummer Charlie Watts in August 2021.

Speaking in Brussels, Puigdemont called on Spain to respect the Catalan independence movement's legitimacy and abandon judicial actions against it. "A world separates us from those positions," Rodriguez told reporters of Puigdemont's conditions. "Our framework is the one that the prime minister expressed with absolute forcefulness yesterday: We have a tool, dialogue; a framework, the constitution; and an objective: coexistence." If Feijoo fails, it will fall on Sanchez to see if he can muster support, seen as impossible without Puigdemont's party.
