Kubrakov, writing on Facebook, said the Danube ports' infrastructure had been "devastated". "Ukrainian grain is indispensable for the world and cannot be replaced by any other country in the coming years," he wrote. "The port of Izmail suffered the most damage, including the terminal and infrastructure of the Danube Shipping Company." Russian state news agency RIA said the port and grain infrastructure hit was housing foreign mercenaries and military hardware. Seaport authority head Yuriy Lytvyn said on Facebook that repair work had already begun and the port infrastructure continued to operate.

AMD may be nearing the end of its rally, according to some Wall Street analysts. Following the earnings report, Bank of America reiterated its neutral rating on the stock while lifting its price target by just $2 to $132. Although the firm raised its price target to $115 from $110, it still remains 2.2% below Tuesday's close. We also thought investors would eventually tire of the expensive valuation of AMD stock and we were wrong on that count as well. AMD shares gained 1.2% Wednesday during premarket trading.

[1/2] Toyota Motor Corp.'s new Land Cruiser is pictured at its unveiling event in Tokyo, Japan August 2, 2023, in this photo taken by Kyodo via REUTERSCompanies Toyota Motor Corp FollowTOKYO, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Toyota (7203.T) on Wednesday unveiled the first hybrid version of its Land Cruiser that it will bring to North America and other key markets as it seeks to put a high-margin and iconic sports utility vehicle back on the map. Land Cruiser models are relatively big cars that come with a higher profitability for Toyota, just as is the case for some other models such as its Alphard van, said Seiji Sugiura, an analyst at Tokai Tokyo Research Institute. The new Land Cruiser will become available in Japan in the first half of 2024, and come to the United States in the spring of that year, Toyota said, adding that suggested retail pricing in the United States will start in the mid-$50,000 range. Toyota said it will offer gasoline and diesel-powered versions of the new Land Cruiser in markets such as Western and Eastern Europe and the Middle East, and also bring a smaller Land Cruiser version to Japan in the winter. The Land Cruiser and the Lexus LX and GX, which are luxury SUVs, have together sold 11.3 million units as of the end of last month, Toyota said.

HONG KONG, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Shares of debt-laden Chinese property giant Country Garden (2007.HK) fell on Tuesday after it scrapped a share placement to raise $300 million, citing "internal considerations" though bookrunners said the sale was fully covered. Shares and bonds in Country Garden have come under pressure recently due to liquidity concerns, and investors were worried about further contagion in a sector that has already seen many firms default. Country Garden did not immediately respond to a request for comment. At 0220 GMT, shares of Country Garden were down 3.8% to HK$1.52, narrowing losses from 10.8% in early trading. Country Garden had nearly $4.9 billion of bond payments to make over the next 6 months, JP Morgan analysts said in a report last week.

CNN —TikTok’s song of the summer, the ecstatically explicit “One Margarita,” just got a raucous new music video — with a cameo from none other than supermodel Cindy Crawford. In the music video, Crawford recreates her famous 1992 Pepsi Super Bowl ad, in which she visited a dusty vending machine at a general store to grab and gulp a cold Pepsi while young boys ogled her. With one margarita, Moore raps, she’ll “open her legs.” By the time she’s had five margaritas, well, even her partner is feeling open to experimentation. Watching weary day hikers start the long uphill hike from Phantom Ranch, a ranger station at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, Jeff Schwartz has learned to look for telltale warning signs. “They’ve got the salt stains all over their shirt, and clearly have a day pack on, and you’re like, ‘let’s prevent some search and rescue by talking with these folks,’” said Mr. Schwartz, a paramedic and backcountry park ranger who has worked at Grand Canyon National Park since 2012. After a dozen summers on the trail, he also knows what to offer: a comfortable seat in the shade of the ranger’s office, maybe something salty to eat. An unplanned overnight at the Ranch may be in order for those in truly dire straits. At least seven have died in recent weeks from apparent heat-related causes — including one at the Grand Canyon, one in Death Valley and two at a state park in Nevada — as extreme temperatures this year have met increased visitation at national and state parks.

SHANGHAI/BEIJING, Aug 1 (Reuters) - China's currency regulators have in recent weeks asked some commercial banks to reduce or delay their dollar purchases, two people with direct knowledge of the matter said. The informal instruction, or the so-called window guidance, was meant to slow the pace of yuan depreciation, the sources said. One source said the regulators were emphatic banks should hold off dollar purchases under their proprietary trading accounts. Chinese yuan has lost 3.6% against the U.S. dollar so far this year, hitting 7.16 per dollar on Tuesday to be one of Asia's worst performing currencies. One source said regulators were emphatic banks should hold off dollar purchases under their proprietary trading accounts due to the "recent yuan depreciation". "The yuan exchange rate expectations are stable, and the foreign exchange market has the foundation to meet authentic and compliant FX needs," SAFE said in response to a Reuters query. Keeping non-urgent dollar demand at bay could relieve some of the immediate pressure on the yuan, the sources said. But that excitement soon faded, as domestic and foreign investors said they would wait for substantive action before putting more money into China. There was also a seasonal factor too, as overseas-listed Chinese companies usually need more foreign exchange in the summer to pay dividends to shareholders.

REUTERS/Cindy Liu/File PhotoPHNOM PENH, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Cambodia's election commission said on Tuesday that nearly half a million ballots were spoiled in the national election last month, which critics have called a sham as all opposition parties were barred from contesting. About 440,000 ballots -- or every one in 18 -- were invalidated, the NEC said, adding the election had seen a high turnout of 85%. Authorities had threatened voters with heavy penalties if they spoiled ballots or boycotted the election or urged others to do so. NEW DELHI, Aug 1 (Reuters) - At least five people, including two police personnel, were killed in clashes between Hindus and Muslims in India's Haryana state, neighbouring capital New Delhi, on Monday, police officials told Reuters. The violence erupted when a Hindu religious procession passed through the Muslim dominated Nuh region, located around 50 kilometres away from New Delhi. He said two of the dead were members of the home guard, a voluntary force that helps police control civil disturbances. Another 10 police personnel were injured in the clashes, he added. Gold prices were bound for their biggest monthly gain in four on Monday as expectations grew that major global central banks may be nearing the end of current monetary policy tightening cycles. Spot gold was down 0.2% at $1,954.79 per ounce by 0431 GMT, while U.S. gold futures slipped 0.4% to $1,953.80 per ounce. HONG KONG/NEW YORK, July 31 (Reuters) - For all the excitement whipped up in China's markets by the Politburo last week, foreign investors say policymakers' words will have to be matched by substantive action to clean up an ailing property sector before confidence recovers. "The question is what resources they will deploy, because China is still very focused on de-leveraging and preventing financial risks." Absolutely, and urgently," said Qi Wang, the chief investment officer (CIO) of MegaTrust Investment (HK), a boutique China fund manager specializing in domestic Chinese A-shares. Mark Dong, general manager of Minority Asset Management, based in Hong Kong, has reduced his exposure to the property sector. The safest bets in the sector, he said, had come down to state-owned companies such as China Resources Land (1109.HK) and Poly Property (0119.HK).

Opinion: The Donald Trump and Hunter Biden surprises

So it was remarkable Wednesday when the deal for Hunter Biden to plead guilty to two misdemeanors for his failure to pay taxes on time fell apart in a federal courtroom after the judge raised questions about it. Special counsel Jack Smith unexpectedly added a major allegation to the indictment charging former President Donald Trump with mishandling classified documents. The Trump and Hunter Biden developments underlined how America’s political climate is being shaped by what happens in the courts. This addition, an alleged surveillance tape conspiracy, almost reads like a spy novel.”“It features Trump employee and co-defendant Walt Nauta’s surprise clandestine trip to Florida. To W. James Antle III, it was the Hunter Biden plea deal snafu that brought to the forefront the “powerful split screen that drives” how Republican voters see the emerging 2024 presidential race.

Two of North Carolina's top GOP leaders encouraged Tricia Cotham to run for office last year, per The Times. Cotham, from a family with deep Democratic roots, flipped to the GOP three months into her new term. And then Cotham in April made a decision that immediately transformed North Carolina politics, as she switched from the Democratic Party to the GOP, giving the latter party supermajorities in both the state House and state Senate. What was previously unknown until now was that top North Carolina Republicans — namely House Speaker Tim Moore and House Majority Leader John Bell — had encouraged Cotham to run for the seat last year, according to The Times. Jonathan Coby, Cotham's former campaign consultant, told The Times that Cotham was irate over her political predicament.

When Tricia Cotham, a former Democratic lawmaker, was considering another run for the North Carolina House of Representatives, she turned to a powerful party leader for advice. Then, when she jumped into the Democratic primary, she was encouraged by still other formidable allies. Except what was unusual — and not publicly known at the time — was that the influential people who had privately encouraged Ms. Cotham to run were Republicans, not Democrats. One was Tim Moore, the redoubtable Republican speaker of the state House. “I encouraged her to run because she was a really good member when she served before,” Mr. Bell recalled in an interview.

July 28 (Reuters) - Oil prices slipped in Asian trade on Friday but were on track for a fifth straight week of gains following strong economic data in the U.S., and on speculation over Chinese stimulus measures and OPEC+ output cuts. Brent crude fell 42 cents, or 0.5%, to $83.82 a barrel by 0404 GMT, but was on track for a weekly 3.5% increase. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell 34 cents, or 0.4%, to $79.75 a barrel, but were heading for a 3.6% weekly increase. But recent interest rate increases from global central banks seeking to tame stubborn inflation raised questions about long term demand. Earlier this week oil fell after data showed U.S. crude inventories fell less than expected.
