Wall Street is under-appreciating the growth outlook for the defense sector, according to Citi. Nonetheless, Citi remains confident in "the bull case for defense." Defense companies historically trade at a premium to the rest of the market when defense budgets grow, Gursky said. Here are some of Citi's favorite defense picks, all of which have a buy rating from the bank. Citi's $525 price target implies almost 12% upside from Friday's close.

Read previewIn February, I finally checked off one of my top bucket list items — seeing the aurora borealis, better known as the northern lights. I journeyed all the way to Finland's northernmost municipality, Utsjoki, about 280 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Three fellow prison inmates charged in the brutal bludgeoning death of James (Whitey) Bulger, the wily and charismatic Boston gangster who had evaded a federal dragnet for 16 years, have agreed to a plea deal, according to a filing by federal prosecutors in West Virginia on Monday. Fotios Geas, Paul J. DeCologero and Sean McKinnon faced murder and conspiracy charges after Mr. Bulger, 89, was found beaten to death in his cell in 2018, just hours after being transferred from a Florida lockup where he had been serving two consecutive life sentences for his role in 11 murders. The details of the agreement were not disclosed. In a three-page motion, prosecutors said that the three men had agreed to “cooperate” with the government in preparing a report specifying the circumstances of Mr. Bulger’s killing at the Hazelton federal prison in Bruceton Mills, W.Va.Prison officials had quickly identified Mr. Geas as a suspect in the immediate aftermath of the attack. After a four-year investigation, prosecutors said Mr. DeCologero, a Boston-area gang leader, also took an active role in battering Mr. Bulger, while Mr. McKinnon served as a lookout.

GHAZIABAD INDIA - APRIL 06: Prime Minister Narendra Modi greets supporters at a roadshow on April 06, 2024 in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. India's 2024 general election is set to be the world's largest democratic exercise, with over 969 million registered voters, more than the combined population of the EU, US, and Russia. (Photo by Elke Scholiers/Getty Images)India voted on Monday in the fourth phase of a seven-week long general election, as campaign rhetoric became more strident over economic disparities and religious divisions. "I appeal to all to vote for a decisive government," said Amit Shah, Modi's powerful aide and the country's interior affairs minister, as voting began. The lower turnout has raised doubts over whether BJP and its allies can win the landslide predicted by opinion polls.

Nicole Shanahan Ventures Onto the Stump for Kennedy

She quoted Carl Jung as she opened her meandering speech, cited what she called the “ruthless” American psyche, alluded to her friendship with the director of the “Black Panther” movies and talked about how Americans needed to remember their ancestors. Nicole Shanahan, the Silicon Valley millionaire chosen by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his running mate, had previously said that she would spend little time on the campaign trail, leaving stump speeches mainly to Mr. Kennedy. But in her first outing on the hustings, in Houston on Saturday about a month and a half after she joined Mr. Kennedy on his independent presidential ticket, Ms. Shanahan signaled that she was a fitting match for him, speaking about the electorate as if it were the victim of a vast Covid-related conspiracy and defying easy categorization along partisan lines. “I often said Covid was the truth serum,” she said of the pandemic. We’re not going to stand that anymore.”

In “Civil War,” tanks trample democracy. But the messages they send may be more dangerous than the violence depicted onscreen: The collapse of democracy is inevitable. In the film, Humphrey Bogart plays Rick, the cynical owner of a Moroccan nightclub at the onset of World War II. John Springer Collection/Corbis Historical/Getty ImagesOther World War II-era films like “Don’t be a Sucker,” which emphasized racial and religious tolerance in America, emphasized the same message. Nearly two weeks after a pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of California, Los Angeles, was attacked by counterprotesters, university officials still have not explained why security officers stood by for hours while the attack was underway, nor have they arrested any of those who swarmed in wielding metal rods, water bottles and firecrackers in one of the worst outbreaks of violence in the college protests that have rocked the country. The extent of the policing failure has become clearer in recent days, as witnesses have come forward to describe a chaotic night of violence on April 30, in which students and bystanders repeatedly called 911 and nonemergency lines, finding little help and calls that were disconnected. A dispatcher told one caller pleading for help that they were ending the call because “I have actual emergencies to handle.”One man was filmed by a local television station on the phone with emergency dispatchers, alerting them that people were getting hurt. “Security has abandoned this encampment,” he could be heard saying before lowering his phone and looking at it. “They just hung up on me again,” he said incredulously.

Cohen is the only witness who will testify about Trump’s alleged involvement in both the decision to pay Daniels and the plan to reimburse Cohen for advancing the money. The report also did not find that Israel had intentionally obstructed humanitarian aid into Gaza. Such a finding would have triggered a U.S. law barring military aid to countries that block such assistance. They argue that Israel has indiscriminately killed civilians with American arms and intentionally hindered U.S.-supplied humanitarian aid. Either would violate U.S. laws governing arms transfers to foreign militaries, as well as international humanitarian law, which is largely based on the Geneva Conventions. The United States provides Israel with $3.8 billion in annual military aid, and Congress last month approved an additional $14 billion in emergency funding.

I talked to Brendan Doherty, a professor of political science at the United States Naval Academy and author of the books, “The Rise of the President’s Permanent Campaign” and “Fundraiser in Chief: Presidents and the Politics of Campaign Cash,” about why early presidents stayed off the trail and how this became the permanent campaign. Our conversation, conducted by email, is below:WOLF: Why didn’t early presidents personally campaign? DOHERTY: In the early decades of the republic, presidential candidates adhered to the norm that they should not actively campaign for office. DOHERTY: While early presidential candidates didn’t actively campaign, their supporters got the word out on their behalf. Trump’s lead jumped to 9 points over Biden when Kennedy, Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independent Cornel West were included in the ballot test. (To make the debate stage, candidates must also appear on state ballots totaling at least 270 electoral votes. I should point out that third party and independent candidates tend to see their polling decline over the course of the campaign. Now, it’s quite possible that Kennedy voters will stick by him the more they hear about his positions. National polling for the most part has, after all, shown Kennedy voters prefer Trump to Biden, though not uniformly.

The Israeli Air Force achieved an unmatched air combat victory in the 1982 Lebanon War. The battle, known as Operation Mole Cricket 19, saw over 60 enemy aircraft eliminated without a single Israeli loss. The fourth-generation Israeli jets were also made much more lethal by the AIM-9L Sidewinder missile that could be fired from any angle. This allowed Israeli jets, with targeting assistance from UAVs, to destroy the SAMs using anti-radiation missiles. Lower pricing due to softening demand helped April electric vehicle sales at Ford more than double, even as the automaker was shifting resources away from the money-losing unit. Certain older Hyundai and Kia models made before 2023 are particularly vulnerable to car thieves.
