Mike Pence spoke out against Putin "apologists" and the growing populism in the GOP on Wednesday. Several Republicans have either supported Putin or dismissed the war he's waged against Ukraine. Pence also criticized the group of Republicans who have defended Russia's war in Ukraine or dismissed it by arguing the US should stay out of foreign affairs. "As Russia continues its unconscionable war of aggression to Ukraine, I believe that conservatives must make it clear that Putin must stop and Putin will pay," he added. "There can be no room in the conservative movement for apologists to Putin.

CNBC's Investing in Space newsletter offers a view into the business of space exploration and privatization, delivered straight to your inbox. We're now in the final quarter of the year, and for several space companies, it's survival time. They weren't proven businesses and the tide went out," a banker familiar with the sector told me about the environment for space stocks. While not a definitive metric, the cash burn rates of de-SPAC space companies – from AST SpaceMobile to Redwire and more – give a window into the urgency of the situation. Private space companies are feeling the pinch as well.
The actor said she was left “angry and hurt and humiliated” by Reitman, who directed with a “reign of terror.”“One of my hardest film experiences was with Ivan Reitman,” Faris told her “Unqualified” guest Lena Dunham. Faris said that an accident occurred in the makeup trailer before she was supposed to be on set for the first time. Her hair designer knocked over a jar of wig glue and it got on Faris’ costume, which resulted in Faris being “20 to 25 minutes” late to set. “I was terrified on my first day that Ivan thinks I’m some kind of diva that doesn’t come out of her trailer,” Faris said. That was a weird moment.”Back in 2017, Faris revealed for the first time that a famous director slapped her butt on set, but she did not reveal the director by name at the time.
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Malaysia deported 150 Myanmar nationals this month, including former navy officers seeking asylum, and plans to send back more despite the risk of arrest they face at home, four sources familiar with the matter said. The two were deported from Malaysia for failing to hold valid documents to reside in the country, the sources said. Myanmar's embassy in Malaysia said in a post on Facebook that 150 Myanmar nationals were deported by plane on Oct. 6 in cooperation with Malaysian immigration authorities. The agency did not comment on dangers faced by Myanmar nationals deported back home. Despite such criticism, Malaysia is planning to deport more Myanmar nationals, according to community leaders who said they were briefed by authorities on planned deportations.
McDonald's recently-released adult Happy Meal was designed to engender feelings of "nostalgia" among its older customers. Opportunistic resellers are taking advantage of McDonald's limited-time collaboration with streetwear company Cactus Plant Flea Market to try to make a quick buck. Another seller is asking for $25,000 for an unopened Happy Meal toy, and asks that the winning bidder also cover the $6.10 in shipping fees. In New York City, the Cactus Plant Flea Market Box retailed for $12.95. The fast food giant has brought back its collectible Halloween Happy Meal pails for the first time since 2016.

General Electric, with operations including a gas-turbine plant in South Carolina, uses derivatives to hedge risks in the company’s pension portfolio. David Eisenberg got a call this month from a finance official at a U.S.-based multinational company. The executive wanted to know whether the company had derivatives in its retirement portfolio. “We explained that they don’t,” said Mr. Eisenberg, an investment adviser with Buck, a New York-based pension-actuary and human-resources consulting firm. “They were worried that if they were using derivatives they were exposed to risk.”

Oct 18 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc's (<TSLA.O>) quarterly report on Wednesday will likely show whether the Elon Musk-led electric-vehicle maker is facing any weakness in demand that is starting to weigh on the wider auto industry. Although Musk has said Tesla "does not have a demand problem", the company's latest report on deliveries showed that it made 22,000 more EVs than it delivered to customers in the third quarter. "A top concern right now is demand in China as wait times seem to be shrinking," RBC Capital Markets said. read moreAnalysts say pricing is a key factor that could help Tesla make up for a possible demand drop and boost revenue. "If there is a big sale of Tesla stock by Musk after earnings, that will be a strong sign that the Twitter deal is on the cusp of closing," said Adam Badawi, a law professor at UC Berkeley.
CNN —After about five hours on the witness stand, Kevin Spacey finished testifying in his defense in a sexual misconduct trial, stemming from allegations made by actor Anthony Rapp. Spacey grew emotional multiple times during his testimony, including when he discussed a statement he put out shortly after Rapp went public with his allegations in 2017 to BuzzFeed. Spacey has said in his testimony that his publicity team at the time advised him that he’d be labeled a victim blamer if he pushed back. “I was being encouraged to apologize and I’ve learned a lesson which is never apologize for something you didn’t do,” Spacey testified on Monday. The next witness called by Spacey’s attorneys will be Alexander Bardey, a psychiatrist.
By using a zero-sum budget and planning my work strategically, I earned more than I had in 2019. Homeschooling my son in 2020 and 2021 was one of the best decisions I could have made for my family. The solution involved me working from home and homeschooling our son, which not only worked well for our family but also our finances. One of my favorite methods is zero-sum budgeting because it helps you give each dollar a specific job. Zero-sum budgeting also helped me make sure we were putting any extra income to good use to not only stay afloat financially but get ahead.
Do we stay in the stock market, or do we fold? Market timing is a fool's game because you have to know when to get out and then you have to know when to get back in. Three days later, the stock market crashed. Sure, in 1987 it was the mechanics of the stock market and the economy was fine. Wisconsin LGBTQ History ProjectOn Oct. 5, the Milwaukee County Landmarks Committee held a public hearing to discuss four landmark nominations, including the site of the Black Nite. “A group of Navy trainees went to the Black Nite on a dare, they knew it was a gay bar. The Black Nite was targeted because it was a gay bar,” Buck said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I’ll never forget that as long as I live,” Carter told Takach. The Black Nite event, in addition to its effects on the state, may be the first recorded LGBTQ uprising in history, Takach said.
The job market is slowly shifting back in favor of employers, labor experts told Insider. During an economic downturn, workers may not be able to get away with just doing the bare minimum. That means "quiet quitters" could be the first to be laid off during a recession, experts say. And in the same survey, nearly nine out of 10 managers (87%) said they would "likely" have to lay off employees during a recession. So it's not necessarily whether you're quiet quitting or not.

But the washout may not have reached its end game yet, according to two top private equity investors. Investors need to be able to model long-term growth rates and profitability, and that could take a while, he added. Both private equity leaders see consolidation among tech companies as a precondition to going public in the future. There were too many companies in many of the new tech niches where investors backed public offerings in recent years, Ford says. "Make the right investment decisions to fund long-term growth," he said.

CNN —The best part of “Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga” is that it manages to tell a complicated financial story with a fair amount of humor and context, in a way that doesn’t demonize the various parties, which doesn’t spare them from various levels of mockery. The result is a Netflix docuseries that, despite a few excesses, exposes the more ridiculous aspects of stock trading and where all that paper can come to resemble a house of cards. Ron DeSantis overpowered his own Legislature to pass a map that adds an additional four GOP seats. Nationally, Republicans are likely to net three to four House seats from new maps alone — most of the five seats they need to regain the majority. There are 36 House Democrats not running for re-election, mostly because many opted to retire rather than risk serving in the wilderness of the minority. And there’s state Sen. Jen Kiggans, a nurse practitioner and former Navy pilot challenging Democratic Rep. Elaine Luria in Virginia Beach. To return home from an animal voyage is to become, yourself, a new animal living in your old habitat. “If the snow leopard should manifest itself, then I am ready to see the snow leopard,” Matthiessen writes. “We’ve seen so much, maybe it’s better if there are some things that we don’t see.”Today, nearly 50 years later, if you are so inclined, you can go see a snow leopard at the zoo. The best trips, like Peter Matthiessen’s search for the snow leopard, find a way to make themselves permanent.
