CNN —Manchester City has initiated legal action against the English Premier League (EPL) over commercial rules, the UK’s Times reported on Tuesday. City, which won a fourth successive Premier League title last month, is looking to end the league’s Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, according to The Times, which reported on specific excerpts of the lawsuit. The APT rules came into effect in December 2021 after the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle United. According to The Times, City claims the APT rules are unlawful and are seeking damages from the league. The vast majority of it goes to the United Arab Emirates, according to research published by the independent Switzerland-based aid and advocacy organization SwissAid. Most industrial gold exported from African countries goes to South Africa, Switzerland and India. Industrial gold, which makes up roughly 11% of all gold produced, is used in the medical, electronics, automotive, aerospace and defense industries. But the majority of artisanal and small-scale mining, or ASM, gold produced on the continent — to the tune of 80% to 85% — goes to the UAE, SwissAid wrote. U.S. officials have said that AI systems could pose national security risks, for example by making it easier to engineer chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. The Biden administration in October required the makers of the largest AI systems to share details about them with the U.S. government. Microsoft executives said the agreement has safeguards to protect Microsoft's technology and prevent it from being used by Chinese entities to train AI systems. The Commerce Department already requires notifications and, in several regions, export licenses to send AI chips abroad. Microsoft executives said the company welcomes a debate on a new legal framework governing the transfer of AI technology and that the deal with G42 requires the UAE firm to comply with U.S. regulations as they evolve.
