☆ Oil prices rise as U.S. crude and fuel inventories seen shrinking

Falling U.S. crude inventories caused oil prices to rebound on Wednesday after several days of decline, while expectations for a nearing ceasefire deal in the Middle East kept prices from continuing to climb. U.S. crude oil, gasoline and distillate inventories fell last week, according to market sources citing the American Petroleum Institute, a trade organization. Gasoline inventories fell by 2.8 million barrels and distillates shed 1.5 million barrels. That would be the first time crude stocks in the United States fell for four weeks in a row since September 2023. Prices also suffered on continued concern that economic softening in China, which is the world's biggest crude importer, would weaken global oil demand.

Turkey came out miles ahead of the rest of the world in an annual global wealth ranking — in a result that may come as surprising, given the country's high levels of inflation. The next-highest countries in terms of average wealth growth per adult were Russia and Qatar with nearly 20% and South Africa with just over 16%. But for Turks who own assets like homes, wealth has grown, as inflation pushes up the costs of those holdings. In a call with journalists, some of the report's authors broke down the relationship between inflation and wealth rises in Turkey. The report also noted the "currency effect", which is what changes wealth growth the most — local currency growth figures for wealth are often significantly different from those in dollar terms.

CNN —The CIA has assessed that the leader of Hamas in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, is coming under increased pressure from his own military commanders to accept a ceasefire deal and end the war with Israel, CIA Director Bill Burns told a closed-door conference on Saturday, according to a source who attended. The increased pressure on Sinwar comes as Hamas and Israel have agreed to a framework deal that that President Joe Biden laid out at the end of May. That’s what US officials have said is being used as the basis to an agreement to end the fighting. Of the three most senior Hamas leaders in Gaza, Israel is believed to have found and killed just one: Marwan Issa, the second in command of the military wing. There are still “tough issues to resolve,” a source familiar with the talks told CNN after Burns’ meetings in Doha.
