It's no secret: Estee Lauder (EL) has lost its way. Fabrizio Freda, the CEO of Estee Lauder since July 2009, was once an industry "wunderkind," Jim Cramer acknowledged Tuesday. Shares of Estee Lauder have fallen 50% year to date and lost two-thirds of their value over the past two years. We have been expecting consecutive poor quarters from Estee Lauder since China's post-Covid economic rebound has stalled. Rather, the investment case is more about how Estee Lauder can right the ship.

William M. Casey, a former New York City deputy police chief who was the unheralded hero of the “Dirty 30” corruption investigation that ensnared one-sixth of the officers assigned to a West Harlem precinct, died on Nov. 9 at his home in Pleasantville, N.Y. The cause was complications of a stroke and Parkinson’s disease, his daughter, Kimberly Wildey, said. The scandal — often described as the largest police corruption case involving a single precinct in the department’s history — was uncovered by a commission on police corruption appointed by Mayor David N. Dinkins in 1992 and headed by Justice Milton Mollen of the New York State Supreme Court. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York under Mary Jo White. The operation resulted in charges against 34 officers, 30 of whom were either convicted or pleaded guilty to crimes ranging from perjury and civil rights violations to stealing drugs or cash from narcotics dealers.

LONDON, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Leading scientists urged caution over fears of another pandemic on Thursday after the World Health Organization requested more information from China on a rise of respiratory illnesses and pneumonia clusters among children. It called for more information about "undiagnosed pneumonia - China (Beijing, Liaoning)". The standard wording of the alert echoed the first-ever notice about what would become COVID-19, sent on Dec. 30 2019: "Undiagnosed pneumonia - China (Hubei)." Both the WHO and China have faced questions over transparency during the early days of COVID. In China itself, there has been a lot of recent coverage of a rise in respiratory illnesses, including among children.

CNN —A school run by the United Nations in northern Gaza has been hit with apparently devastating impact, the UN confirmed Saturday, in what a top UN official described as a “horrifying” incident. Video from al-Fakhoura School in Jabalya – which was being used as a shelter for displaced people – shows bloodied bodies across a series of rooms on two floors of the two-story building. The Israeli military is reviewing the incident, it told CNN, but had no further comment. Another school in Zaitoun was sheltering 4,000 people when it was struck multiple times on Friday, Touma told CNN. Dozens of people were likely killed in that incident, according to Lazzarini, who wrote: “These attacks cannot become commonplace, they must stop.

Estee Lauder (EL) has the dubious distinction as the worst-performing stock in our portfolio in 2023, and we're growing less optimistic about CEO Fabrizio Freda's ability to right the ship. Jim added he may consider selling Estee Lauder due to the uncertainty that lies ahead. Alongside fiscal Q1 results, Estee Lauder management cut its fiscal 2024 outlook suggesting the trajectory of getting back on track for China consumer demand growth will take longer than expected. Jim believes the Club has been patient and has given Estee Lauder the time required for inventories in its Asia travel retail business to normalize. TotalEnergies signs are seen at a petrol station in Nice, France, October 10, 2022. The letter, seen by Reuters, comes at a crucial juncture for the French energy company as it prepares to relaunch Africa's largest foreign direct investment project. Activists warn the project may worsen climate change and fuel human rights abuses in the impoverished southern African nation. TotalEnergies said before Friday's letter that arrangements for project finance remain in place despite a 'force majeure' halt in 2021 when Islamist militants threatened the project site. The project delay has led some investors to reassess their previous cost assumptions in light of inflation and global gas market swings.

"When you play teams that play against you very defensively, you need creativity," Klinsmann told reporters, according to the Yonhap News Agency. Former Germany striker and coach Klinsmann was also impressed with the way Lee tracked back to help out his team defensively. "We coaches try to teach him that it always goes both ways, Luis Enrique at Paris Saint Germain does the same thing," the World Cup winner added. Maclaren did all the damage in the second half, scoring from a Jordan Bos cross shortly after the restart before pouncing again in the 70th when a Massimo Luongo shot pinged off goalkeeper Mitul Marma. The South Koreans, meanwhile, scored four times in the second half to hand Singapore a 5-0 defeat at Seoul World Cup Stadium, with captain Son Heung-min among the scorers. HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A bill seeking to protect those who travel to Pennsylvania to get abortions by barring public officials from cooperating with authorities in other states that criminalize the practice advanced Wednesday through the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives. At least 16 states -- the majority of Democrat-controlled states -- have adopted laws seeking to protect abortion access since last year. Many of those laws have provisions that protect providers and the people who come from other states seeking an abortion. Josh Shapiro has positioned himself as a defender of abortion rights. Some of Pennsylvania’s neighboring states have sought to protect access to abortion, but those from states where abortion rights have been curtailed have come to Pennsylvania at greater rates seeking services.

Though she made the image four and a half decades ago, “Woman with Blue Bow” seems strikingly contemporary — a timeless symbol on the strictures of femininity. Though Callis and her body of work fits neatly within this cohort, it’s not a label that Callis adopted, then or now. Callis' early color work explored restriction and desire at the height of the feminist art movement. Jo Ann Callis/Courtesy ROSEGALLERYThe red imprint on the model’s neck, alluding to discomfort, was not actually caused by the bow, Callis explained, but was rather an illusion thanks to makeup. CNN —Sitting too much may send you to an early death, likely from chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and more, according to research. “The question is, if you have a restorative or recharging sleep, is that better than sitting on the couch eating and watching TV? While the study found swapping sitting for sleep improved health, benefits were not equal, the authors said. More vigorous exercise is best, but standing, walking and even sleeping is better than just sitting, experts say. “Since most songs average at least 3 minutes, you can dance off the negative impact of too much sitting.

He not only won his first of six ATP Finals, but he began 2008 taking the Australian Open, the first of his 10 titles there and what would become 24 major championships overall. In the semifinals he upset the top seed, Roger Federer, and beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final.
