These stocks are getting close to oversold territory
  + stars: | 2024-01-12 | by ( Alex Harring | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +4 min
There may be buying opportunities in a few stocks getting hit after making headlines this week. The relative strength indicator, which measures the magnitude and speed of price moves, is a popular metric used to evaluate whether shares are overbought or oversold. A stock with a 14-day RSI below 30 is considered oversold, suggesting that it could be a promising entry point for investors. The full oversold list While many noteworthy S & P 500 stocks are on the verge of being oversold, just two actual have RSIs below 30: Baker Hughes and Bunge Global . The car-rental firm said it's selling 20,000 EVs — about one-third of its electric fleet of Teslas, Volvos, Polestars, and more — partly due to repair and maintenance costs. AdvertisementIt's also a warning about the cost of EV ownership to drivers thinking about switching from gas to electric. Mitchell, which supplies data for insurance and repair companies, has found EVs — and particularly Teslas — are more expensive than gas-powered cars to repair. Among all EVs, Tesla's Model 3 has the best resale value, falling by only 42.9% in five years.

CNN —Hertz, which has made a big push into electric vehicles in recent years, has decided it’s time to cut back. And EV price declines in the new car market have pushed down the resale value of Hertz’s used EV rental cars. Simply put, people are generally willing to pay a certain amount less for a used car than for a new one. Tesla makes up about 80% of Hertz’s EV fleet, and, altogether, EVs make up about 11% of Hertz’s total rental fleet. Again, Teslas, which make up 80% of Hertz’s EV rental fleet, are mostly the problem in both these areas, he has said.

Another year, another lousy IPO market. The 2023 IPO market is closing with a whimper, not a bang. You'd think the IPO market would be bubbling, but it's dead quiet. When Daniel Skousen scrubs at the ash and soot covering his Maui home, he worries about the smell. Crews have installed air quality monitors throughout town and are spraying a soil sealant to prevent toxic ash from being washed into the ocean or blowing around. The Hawaii Department of Health's Environmental Health Services Division also told Skousen's attorney it had no records about residential testing of contaminants to release. “If it smells like burned plastic or burned electrical cables, then probably those chemicals are in the air and not healthy,” Hertz-Picciotto said. Whether a home can be made safe enough for residency comes down in part to the resident's risk tolerance, Hayes said.

"That was a big wet blanket" for the IPO market, Greg Martin from Rainmaker Securities told me. Buy now, pay later firm Klarna, another oft-mentioned IPO candidate, told CNBC it has no immediate plans to go public. This is in stark contrast to most years, when big IPOs went public in November and December. A month earlier, in November 2020, Sotera Health raised $1.1 billion, and Miravai Life Sciences raised $1.6 billion. By contrast, a normal year should see at least $50 billion raised.

Hertz's embrace of Teslas isn't going so well
  + stars: | 2023-10-28 | by ( Tim Levin | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +4 min
Hertz had initially aimed to make 25% of its fleet electric by the end of 2024. Today, 11% of Hertz's cars are electric, and 80% of those are Teslas. AdvertisementAdvertisementIn 2021, Hertz started going all-in on EVs, announcing a plan to buy 100,000 Teslas as part of an effort to give customers electric options. Add it all up, and Hertz's third-quarter profits would have been "several margin points higher" if its fleet was similarly sized but didn't include EVs, Scherr said. This year, electric cars have been languishing on dealer lots, forcing automakers to cut prices and lather on other incentives.

BP buys $100 million worth of Tesla chargers
  + stars: | 2023-10-26 | by ( Peter Valdes-Dapena | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +1 min
CNN —Oil and gas company BP has agreed to purchase $100 million worth of electric vehicle chargers from Tesla. This marks the first time Tesla has ever sold chargers to another company, according to an announcement from BP. BP will begin installing the chargers next year, but no specific number of chargers was mentioned in the announcement. These chargers won’t look like other Tesla chargers, though. BP Pulse, BP’s EV charging business, operates 27,000 charging points currently and has announced plans for rapid expansion.

Hertz CEO Stephen Scherr told CNBC's Jim Cramer Thursday that his company will continue buying electric vehicles for its fleet, even though the cars caused some headaches during the last quarter. "I think there's no technology change, EVs included, that run a straight line without some hiccups and challenges, and that's this," Scherr said. Scherr said Hertz saw its EVs depreciate in value this year as Tesla made significant price cuts to its models. EVs make up about 11% of Hertz's fleet, with Teslas accounting for 80% of the group, Scherr said. He added that Hertz will buy more Teslas as well as General Motors -made EVs, aiming to have 10,000 in its fleet by year-end.

LONDON, Oct 26 (Reuters) - BP's (BP.L) electric vehicle charger unit is ordering $100 million worth of Tesla (TSLA.O) ultra-fast chargers for rollout in the United States, the first deployment of Tesla's chargers on an independent network, the companies said on Thursday. "Selling our fast-charging hardware is a new step for us, and one we're looking to expand," Tesla's senior director for charging infrastructure Rebecca Tinucci said in a statement. "(This) is a major step forward in our ambitions for high speed, open access charging infrastructure in the U.S.," BP Pulse global CEO Richard Bartlett said. The 250 kilowatt BP Pulse-branded chargers will be compatible with both Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) and Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors enabling the charging of EV models from other carmakers. Automakers have been moving to adopt Tesla's NACS, taking the Elon Musk-led company's superchargers closer to becoming the industry standard at the expense of the rival CCS.

Hertz also disclosed on Thursday that about 80% of the battery electric cars in its fleet are Teslas today. About 11% of Hertz's entire fleet is comprised of electric cars now. With around 50,000 electric cars in its fleet currently, that means Hertz has around 35,000 Teslas in its fleet now. That number is far shy of the 100,000 Tesla electric cars Hertz originally said it was ordering from Tesla by the end of 2022. Musk frequently says that electric cars require less maintenance than counterparts with internal combustion engines (including plug-in hybrid electrics).

Electric vehicle sales are booming, and an effort is underway to blanket the country with new charging stations. I’ve been renting electric cars ever since Hertz started offering Teslas as an option a couple of years ago. Whenever I needed to power up, I found one of Tesla’s fast charging stations and was back on the road with a nearly full battery in less than an hour. But when I arrived in Minneapolis for a reporting trip this summer, the Tesla I had reserved wasn’t available. rentals, this would be a bit of a road trip, the kind of long drive through sparsely populated farmland that is a hallmark of American car culture.

A 2015 law requires rental car companies with 35 or more vehicles to complete recall repairs before renting vehicles. The agency is requiring Zipcar, a unit of Avis Budget Group (CAR.O) since 2013, to submit an audit report of all Zipcar vehicles with uncompleted recall repairs at any time within 150 calendar days after the effective date of the settlement. On Monday, Zipcar said the settlement stems from a 2017 recall in which less than 50 of 12,000 vehicles of its global fleet were found in violation. Zipcar added the recall "was a unique mileage-based recall that did not require the immediate grounding of the vehicles" and added the vehicles are no longer in its fleet. "Vehicles with open, unrepaired recalls pose a safety risk to everyone on the road," said Ann Carlson, NHTSA's acting administrator.

How Many Credit Cards Should I Have?
  + stars: | 2023-10-10 | by ( Gerri Detweiler | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +17 min
Use this guide to identify what kind of credit card user you are—and how many credit cards you should have. A secured credit card can be a smart option if you don’t have a very good credit score. Most small business credit cards require a good personal credit score and sufficient income from all sources, not just the business. However, many business credit cards don’t appear on consumer credit reports, which means they don’t impact your credit scores as long as you pay on time. Similar to choosing a personal credit card, pick your business credit cards based on your spending habits.
