Some are pointing the finger at CEO David Solomon and his spending on the consumer banking business. "Out of control" spendingGoldman insiders are also still fuming over spending on Goldman's consumer business, and there are fears this resentment could escalate with next month's earnings. The consumer bank includes Marcus, a digital banking platform that offers high-yield savings accounts, and the Apple credit card. It was key to Solomon's plan to diversify the company away from its core investment banking business. Goldman pulled back on its consumer banking ambitions earlier this year amid questions about how much cash was being burned on the strategy, led by Stephanie Cohen.

[1/2] A satellite image shows bomber in flight at northeast of Engels Air Base in Saratov, Russia, December 3, 2022. Late on Tuesday, sirens sounded on the territory of the airfield in Engels, Russian state-run news agencies reported, citing Yevgeny Shpolsky, first deputy of the Engels district administration. Ukraine never publicly acknowledges responsibility for attacks inside Russia. The price cap of $60-a-barrel was imposed on Monday at a level above the current price for Urals crude from Russia, the world's second largest oil exporter. ZELENSKIY WITH TROOPSMeanwhile on the battlefields of eastern, northeastern and southern Ukraine, Russian forces kept up their shelling of towns and villages, the Ukrainian military said in its Tuesday evening report.
Military analysts saw the attacks as Kyiv's response to Russia on the same day that Moscow conducted another wave of missile strikes on critical infrastructure in Ukraine. wrote Russian military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky. Musiyenko added: "It's a moment for Russia to wonder about continuing to conduct missile strikes on Ukrainian territory. It was not the first time Russia accused Ukraine of using such drones for attacks inside its borders. In an opinion piece on Nov. 29, Ukroboronprom's general director Yuriy Gusev called for an "asymmetrical response" by the Ukrainian army to Russian missile volleys.
Ukrainian officials revelled in the blasts but declined to acknowledge Kyiv's role, after Russia said Ukraine used unmanned Soviet-era aerial vehicles to attack two air force bases in the Ryazan and Saratov areas of south-central Russia. On Tuesday, a third Russian airfield in Kursk, which lies closer to Ukraine, was set ablaze in another drone strike. Employers, not surprisingly, hate that people are using job offers as bargaining chips. That strategy may work for employers in a normal job market, when it's hard to find another job, let alone a better-paying one. "Employees are finding that there's a big gap between where they are and what they can get." "The job market is still performing very well," says Jay Denton, the chief analytics officer at LaborIQ, a compensation-data provider. Independence, it turns out, pays way, way better than loyalty.
Saka at the double as dynamic England hit Iran for six

England, semi-finalists in 2018, came into the tournament without a win in six games, but a dynamic opening 45 minutes in which Jude Bellingham scored his first England goal, Bukayo Saka doubled the lead and Raheem Sterling grabbed a third set up a second-half stroll. read moreThe game eventually took centre stage and it was not long before England were in top gear. Shaw was the provider again for England's second as his corner was headed back across the area by Harry Maguire to Saka, who volleyed home expertly. England were not done, however, as Saka grabbed his second in the 62nd minute. His side face Wales on Friday when England take on the United States.
Ticketmaster is, yet again, pointing blame at literally everyone but itself after the latest debacle involving tickets for Taylor Swift’s 2023 “Eras” concert tour. Federal anti-trust regulators never should’ve allowed the company’s 2010 merger with Live Nation — and should course-correct by breaking up Ticketmaster. It’s likely that at each of Taylor Swift’s 52 upcoming concerts, thousands of tickets will be “held back” and never released to the general public. Even if you do secure a ticket, fees are out of control. “I should not be left to my own devices,” sings Taylor Swift.

Democrats' top three US House leaders now average more than 82 years old. With House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announcing they'll leave Democratic leadership in 2023 — although remain in Congress — the average age of Democrats' expected top three leaders will drop by 31 years. Presumptive Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York is 52, presumptive House Minority Whip Katherine Clark of Massachusetts is 59, and presumptive Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar of California is 43. The current top Democratic leaders — Pelosi, Hoyer, and Rep. James Clyburn — are 82, 83, and 82, respectively. And Clyburn said he will "look forward" to "doing whatever I can to assist our new generation of Democratic leaders which I hope to be Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, and Pete Aguilar."
The 2022 midterm elections ignited what LGBTQ advocates called yet another “rainbow wave,” with over 430 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer candidates emerging victorious. Across the country in Oregon, fellow Democrat and lesbian Tina Kotek was in a much tighter three-way gubernatorial contest. Lesbians and other queer women were successful in down-ballot races as well, according to advocacy groups and political action committees that have been tracking these races. “These are people who have taken the normal political path and are ready for the big leap,” she said, referring to lesbian election winners. “Queer women, just like all other women, understand that we’re in a really fraught time here in America.”Follow NBC Out on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram.
Meta let go of 11,000 employees, and it's not clear which divisions and roles were most affected. After a harrowing week of record layoffs at Meta, CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other executives convened a town hall meeting on Friday for everyone who survived the cull. During the Q&A part of the call, an employee asked a question referring to Twitter's job cuts, and Zuckerberg weighed in, according to people who attended. Roughly 11,000 staff were let go, the first major job cuts in the company's 18-year history. Analysts at Jefferies called it a "Zuck U-Turn" in a research note to clients, saying the job cuts will boost profits while not impacting Meta's growth trajectory.
Meta let go of 11,000 employees, and it's not clear which divisions and roles were most affected. Shortly before a somber video call with tens of thousands of employees on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg hosted a smaller call with managers at Meta. Zuckerberg fielded questions from managers asking how laid-off employees were chosen and how long the plan had been in the works. "Class act as always," one departing employee said sarcastically of Zuckerberg's call for laid-off workers. "This will add up to a meaningful cultural shift in how we operate," Zuckerberg told remaining employees.
Former President Donald Trump was demonstrably weakened — and President Joe Biden strengthened — by Tuesday's midterm election results, just as the two begin to circle each other for a possible 2024 rematch. Democrats were in position to lose fewer seats in Congress in this year's midterms than Republicans did when Trump was president in 2018. "It’s not even a good night,” one former Trump campaign official said of the GOP's performance, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid angering fellow Republicans. Because it can’t be both," the former Trump campaign official said. "If Democrats want to lose the general election in 2024, they should start screwing with Joe Biden."
In May, I started putting $21.27 from every paycheck toward my commuter and parking benefits. Sometimes, I park my car at a nearby train station and take the train to the office downtown to save money on gas. I decided to sign up for commuter benefits through work to try to lower some of those expenses. For me, saving money usually comes with grumbling and whining over what I'm going to have to give up. After feeling the effects of saving small through my commuter benefits, I'm going to set up an automatic $25 transfer to a separate savings account for future travels.
Johnson was booed by some passengers on the plane to Britain, according to a Sky News journalist on the flight. For some Conservative lawmakers, Johnson is a vote winner, able to appeal across the country not only with his celebrity but also with his brand of energetic optimism. "DEATH SPIRAL"The former Conservative leader William Hague said on Friday Johnson's return was possibly the worst idea he had heard in almost half a century as a party member. Johnson is currently under investigation by parliament's Privileges Committee to establish whether he lied to the House of Commons over lockdown-breaking parties. The contest to become Britain's fourth prime minister in four years has been accelerated to take only a week.

For some Conservative lawmakers, Johnson is a vote winner, able to appeal across the country not only with his celebrity but also with his brand of energetic optimism. When Johnson left Downing Street, his aides said he was going to embrace a quieter life, no longer being "public property" and able to make more money by going on the speaker circuit. After his successor as prime minister, Liz Truss, quit on Thursday after just six weeks in power, the Ukrainian government Twitter account even published, and then deleted, a meme saying "Better call Boris".
Banknotes of Japanese yen and U.S. dollar are seen in this illustration picture taken September 23, 2022. With a strong push from Japan, finance leaders of the Group of Seven advanced economies included a phrase in a statement on Wednesday saying they will closely monitor "recent volatility" in markets. "Many countries saw the need for vigilance to the spill-over effect of global monetary tightening, and mentioned currency moves in that context. "I've said on many occasions that I think a market-determined value for the dollar is in America's interest. "It's impossible to reverse the yen's downtrend with solo intervention," said Daisaku Ueno, chief forex strategist at Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities.
After loading up on several boxes of Trader Joe’s ube-flavored mochi ice cream, Natasha Fischer brought them home, recorded a video for her Instagram account and put them straight into her freezer. Online, Ms. Fischer’s ice cream stockpiling drew backlash on her Trader Joe’s List account, where she has nearly two million followers, with people grumbling that hoarders are the reason they can’t find the products they want. Ms. Fischer, who lives in Los Angeles and runs a cookware business, wasn’t deterred, saying she was certain the ice cream with the trendy purple yam flavor would vanish by the end of the summer.
The number of job openings has been sky high over the past year in the red-hot labor market. That could be because some firms are posting "ghost jobs" that they're not actually hiring for. While many employers can't find enough workers, some qualified candidates are applying to open jobs and aren't hearing anything back. Some recruiters say that ghost jobs are on the rise due to the heightened level of uncertainty that's persisted for the past two and a half years. "There are too many jobs posted"Andrew Flowers, a labor economist at Appcast, the recruitment advertising technology company, expressed skepticism that "ghost jobs" are a widespread problem.
