UK snow causes travel chaos and energy fears
  + stars: | 2022-12-12 | by ( Rob Picheta | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +2 min
London CNN —Snow has blanketed London and large parts of the United Kingdom on Monday, shutting schools, grounding flights and causing widespread disruption across a country struggling through a winter energy crisis. The cold snap left many parts of the country, including London, covered in snow from Sunday evening. Despite the disruption, the arrival of snow two weeks before Christmas brought a festive atmosphere to Britain’s parks and streets. Victoria Jones/PA Images/Getty ImagesSnowfall is relatively rare in southern England compared to northern Britain and mainland Europe, and Britons frequently gripe about the ill-preparedness of the country’s infrastructure when cold weather hits. The company said it was a “contingency” plan, which aimed to “give the public confidence in Monday’s energy supply,” according to PA.
"Queer Eye" host Tan France says he noticed four key money differences between Brits and Americans. France writes, "On the whole, if you have money in America, you buy stuff. Circling back to American car culture, France said he couldn't understand why Americans take out loans to buy fancy new cars, especially when their older models still work. Before joining the cast of "Queer Eye," France was a businessman looking for independent health insurance. France writes, "It's the best con, but it's perfectly legal."
COP27 deal is a blessing in a very good disguise

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, Nov 21 (Reuters Breakingviews) - The world’s premier forum for combatting climate change concluded in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday with an inadequate agreement to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. At Glasgow’s COP26 a year ago, the world’s nearly 200 nations promised to update their decarbonisation plans in 2022. Pessimists will accurately stress that a newly agreed loss and damage fund to pay off affected countries is just an empty bucket – the details will be determined later. At COP26 it was obvious a perceived lack of generosity from richer nations was holding back efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The commitment to establish a dedicated “loss and damage” fund left many of the most controversial decisions on how it might work until next year, including who should pay into it.

Rather, we're pleased with Starboard's activist campaign because its goal — creating more value through improved profitability — is good for shareholders. ... For the quality of the business, for their growth opportunity of the business, for the margin opportunity of this business, this is why we get excited about it." Smith added that he's been in contact with Salesforce management since Starboard took its stake and has had "good dialogue with them." Inflation is only partly to blame.

Justin Thomas on LIV's rankings gripe: 'It's their fault'

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY SportsJustin Thomas understands why LIV Golf players are fighting hard to receive world rankings points for their events, but he strongly disagrees with their stance. "I don't understand," Thomas said when asked about LIV's petition at the Presidents Cup on Tuesday. But that's their own fault for making the decision they made, and they knew very, very well going into it there's a good chance they won't have World Ranking points, and they took that risk. Billy Horschel will make his Presidents Cup debut this week on the United States team along with Thomas. "To my eye, it seems like they should get World Ranking points," he said.
Their reasons vary ― some leave as a result of low pay, for example, others as a result of a lack of career advancement. Millions are also finding themselves out of work for reasons outside of their control, like being temporarily or permanently laid off. If you're looking to advance your career, whatever stage you happen to be at, here are three pieces of career advice from entrepreneurs who've recently pivoted themselves. "Careers are like spiderwebs," she told CNBC Make It during PR company BAM's Media Matchmaking Day. 'Rising tide lifts all ships'For Amy Divaraniya, the advice is pretty classic: "A rising tide lifts all ships," she says.

One of my team members let it slip during a weekly meeting. Reading between the lines, it appears you want to say something to your team members about this channel. Bringing up the subject or trying to find out what they're saying comes across as distrustful and insecure. It also sounds as though you're seeking approval and validation from your team members. As the leader, you should take your team out for beers on occasion to thank them for their hard work.
