Opinion | How the Bidens Treat Hunter’s Daughter

Trust me, the Bidens are in pain on this and so many other issues related to their struggling, courageous, flawed son. Perhaps in time they will make other choices about this precious little girl. But that’s part of their journey, and advice written to pressure a family isn’t helpful or fair to anyone. Anne DeCoccoRaleigh, N.C.To the Editor:I completely disagree with Maureen Dowd. But it was my choice, and if I had turned away for whatever private reason, I would not expect to be publicly condemned for it.

WASHINGTON — Even my Republican sister is not immune to Joe Biden’s gregarious Irish charm. She met him at media holiday parties over the years and was so impressed that she got seduced to the other side for a time, voting for the Obama-Biden ticket in 2008 and writing in Biden’s name for president in 2012. She sent out a Christmas card one year with a picture of herself cheek to cheek with Biden — and some of her Republican friends stopped speaking to her. So I was surprised recently when I discovered my sister writing a letter to President Biden, a plea that she had started in the middle of the night, after mulling over the matter for quite a while. “I watched as you told the nation that you had six grandchildren and you loved each one of them,” she wrote.

There has been no love or intimacy for the past 10 years. My wife will never leave the nursing home. Am I wrong to seek love, intimacy and companionship with another woman? (This also relates to whether you can afford a divorce: An uncontested one needn’t be very costly.) You say there has been no love between you for the past decade; is this also her perspective?

You are so peripheral to whatever drama is unfolding here that it’s nearly impossible for you to go wrong. And be supportive of the mother as she processes what may be distressing news for her. If she doesn’t, and you feel well placed to intervene, get back in touch. But his remark was about how I look, and he knows I’m well aware of the five to 10 pounds I’ve gained. When parting, we often say, “I love you.” The issue: My daughter-in-law’s mother, who lives nearby, is not the sort of person I like.

"There is not one labor leader worth their salt in Philadelphia that hasn't recognized just how much President Biden has supported men and women in labor. Then, a deep dive into MrBeast and what his YouTube empire says about the future of the internet. Reddit came along and said, oh, we need to protect Reddit from the rise of these large language models. So I don’t think they’re totally out of the woods. But I don’t think people would say it was a golden age for how safe the platforms fell to use. But I want to challenge you on this, because I don’t necessarily think that it’s a bad thing if we have past peak trust and safety.

Insurance company Farmers Group announced changes to the company's remote work policy last month, WSJ reports. CNN —Australia plans to triple the size of an ecologically important marine park and close off an area larger than Germany to fishing and mining, the government announced Monday, protecting millions of vulnerable seabirds and animals. The remote Macquarie Island Marine Park, located off Australia’s southeastern coast between Tasmania and Antarctica in the Southern Ocean, is set to expand to 475,465 square kilometers (about 184,000 square miles). The wind-swept World Heritage-listed Macquarie Island and its surrounding waters is a site of outstanding geological and natural significance. The plan to expand the marine park was released in February and Monday’s announcement comes after two months of public consultations with more than 14,700 submissions that were 99% in support, according to the government. Darren Kindleysides, chief executive of the Australian Marine Conservation Society, said sanctuaries are vital for marine wildlife, healthy ocean ecosystems and sustainable commercial fisheries.

A growing number of conservative lawmakers are opposing Biden and McCarthy's debt-ceiling deal. They argued it does not include enough spending cuts, with Rep. Chip Roy calling it a "turd-sandwich." Lawmakers need to pass a bill to raise the debt ceiling before the US defaults as early as June 5. Both Biden and McCarthy said over the weekend that this deal is the best option for Americans. And McCarthy wrote on Twitter on Saturday that "I just got off the phone with the president a bit ago.
The government accuses activist judges of increasingly usurping the role of parliament, and says the overhaul is needed to restore balance between the judiciary and elected politicians. Critics say it will remove vital checks and balances underpinning a democratic state and hand unchecked power to the government. A sea of blue and white Israeli flags, which have become a symbol of the protests, coated a central highway in Tel Aviv. "It scares me that we are still a few hours away at any given moment from turning from a democracy to a dictatorship," Sagi Mizrahi, a 40-year-old computer programmer told Reuters in Tel Aviv. "I'm here because of the judicial system and the laws that are still sitting on the table, it's just scary."
Thailand was the most popular outbound destination for Chinese travelers during the May labour day holiday, data from website Trip.com showed, followed by Japan and South Korea. "There is definitely demand from China for properties in Thailand," said Mesak Chunharakchot, the president of the Thai Real Estate Association. "Chinese are buying houses, sending their children to international schools and having their parents come stay in Thailand to take care of the grandkids." Nearly 270,000 Chinese tourists visited Thailand in March, government data shows, a three-year high, though well below the figure of 985,227 in March 2019, before the pandemic took hold. Therefore some would sell one of the houses in China and buy a property here for retirement."
Could 2023 be the year mixed-martial arts (MMA) in the United States finally returns to its pure, humble beginnings nurtured in Asia nearly 5,000 years ago? “I can’t wait for the US fans to be exposed to true martial arts. Fighting on American soil, it’s amazing to be able to headline this landmark event,” said the former longtime UFC champion, who joined One in 2018. Courtesy Aaron Pan/ONE ChampionshipWhat “true martial arts” means in new-era combat sports is certainly up for interpretation. That’s more true to the spirit of martial arts and its traditional values.
Federal worker safety inspections have alleged poor maintenance or a lack of safety training at some Tyson plants where ammonia leaks injured workers. CNN interviewed eleven current or former Tyson workers across three different plants who experienced ammonia leaks. !”A safety sign hangs on a fence at a Tyson plant in Hope, Arkansas, in March 2023. Still, some Tyson workers who lived through ammonia leaks said they wished more had been done to protect them. That means that the data doesn’t necessarily cover Tyson plants or other meat facilities that hold smaller amounts of ammonia.

The hybrid eclipse will begin at 10:37 p.m. What makes a hybrid eclipse uniqueOtherwise known as an annular-total eclipse, a hybrid eclipse is a function of Earth’s curvature and the event’s path. “Our world today stands at an inflection point where the decisions we make today are going to affect our futures for decades to come,” Mr. Biden said. “And it’s in these moments where we need hope and courage more than ever.”Connecting his political worldview with his family story, the president told the crowd — and the world — that it was “a moment to recommit our hearts, our minds, our heart and souls to the march of progress. To lay the foundation, brick by brick by brick, for a better future for our kids and our grandkids.”Few politicians in the United States get the kind of raw, unanimous shows of approval that Mr. Biden got in Ballina, with an address in front of a Disney-like cathedral, with rock-star lighting and an uninhibited roar from an adoring crowd. Earlier Friday, thousands of people stood along the river, braving cold weather and spurts of heavy rain, for the chance to see Mr. Biden. Musical acts played on large screens while the president slowly made his way across Ireland from Dublin Friday evening.

Ex-White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain worked six days a week at the White House, he told the New Yorker. Klain, 61, mentioned this logistical feat and example of devotion as an aside during an interview with Evan Osnos for the New Yorker, while explaining why he decided to leave the Biden White House after two years. Klain left the White House this month after spending the first two years of the administration leading Biden's team. Biden spoke of Klain's mother during a chief of staff transition ceremony at the White House, when Klain turned over the reins to Jeff Zients. Klain's mother, Sarann Klain Warner, a retired travel agent, was reportedly too ill to attend.
