The latest financial results and commentary from the world's biggest third-party chipmaker gave a big boost Thursday to Apple and semiconductor stocks, including artificial intelligence leader Nvidia . Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company , whose customers include the likes of Apple, Nvidia and fellow Club stock Broadcom , said its fourth-quarter revenue from smartphone chips grew a better-than-expected 27% on a quarterly basis. "Let's not overthink it: Apple and Nvidia are the two that are most obvious" beneficiaries from TSMC's results, Jim Cramer said Thursday. Previously, TSMC had said AI chips were on track to become a "low teens" percentage of its revenue. TSMC's results and guidance Thursday offer so-called "read-throughs" on its customers, many of which are Club stocks such as Apple, Nvidia and Broadcom.

We will go over them – but first, let me talk about what I learned at last week's JPMorgan Health Care Conference that I attended in San Francisco, and what it means to your portfolio. We know health care has a lot of angles too it. The previous CEO Roz Brewer was from Starbucks and struggled with the role that Walgreens plays in health care. You have to be following the transformation of Bristol-Myers, which is opening its wallet to buy a host of drug companies, including anti-psychotic firm Karuna. Health care is the way to go.

That's the conclusion of a new Morgan Stanley research report, which makes us feel really good about where we stand on both Club stocks. Each quarter, Morgan Stanley looks at under-owned stocks and over-owned stocks — basically which ones are overlooked and ready for a hot streak and which ones are crowded and ready to cool off. However, Morgan Stanley said Meta kept its most over-owned crown — and coincidently, its shares closed lower. To be sure, Morgan Stanley maintained an overweight rating on Apple shares. META YTD mountain Meta Platforms (META) year-to-date performance Conversely, Morgan Stanley said Meta's average active institutional ownership increased by 18 basis points quarter-over-quarter.

Bottom line This was a very strong quarter, with almost nothing to nitpick. This year's rapid Data Center sales growth we've seen has been driven largely by cloud providers and enterprises. Sales to China and other impacted regions have, in the past few quarters, accounted for 20% to 25% of Data Center sales. However, the team added that they "believe the decline will be more than offset by strong growth in other regions." Guidance Looking ahead to Nvidia's fourth quarter of fiscal 2024, we once again got far stronger guidance than Wall Street was modeling.

During Microsoft's Ignite conference in Seattle this week, the software giant announced its foray into the AI processor market with two new chips , a deepening partnership with leading AI chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA), additional features for AI assistant 365 Copilot and more. Shares have since notched all-time highs , boosted by startup OpenAI — whose technology powers several of Microsoft's AI offerings — announcing its most powerful tool to date at the start of November. Here are the Club's top-three takeaways from Microsoft's Ignite conference, along with what Wall Street's saying about the event . Wall Street expects Nvidia (NVDA) to deliver another strong quarterly report Tuesday, as its cutting-edge artificial intelligence chips remain a hot, hard-to-get commodity. The recent trading in Nvidia's stock reflects that optimism, with shares up nearly 20% in November alone. "I don't like the so-called setup," Jim Cramer said, referring to the huge run-up in shares ahead of earnings. It's one piece of evidence behind investors' belief that Nvidia's upcoming earnings report will clear the high bar that's been set. Microsoft hasn't officially disclosed how the Maia 100's performance compares with Nvidia's top-end AI chip and AMD's MI300.

Club holding Broadcom 's (AVGO) investment prospects look bright – with or without cloud software maker VMWare (VMW) under its corporate roof. For now, though, the companies remain apart after Broadcom's planned $61 billion takeover of VMWare did not close Monday, as previously scheduled. AVGO YTD mountain Broadcom YTD With VMWare, Broadcom would be a company with sales split roughly 50-50 between its traditional semiconductor division — an artificial intelligence beneficiary — and software, which typically is higher-margin revenue. Without VMWare, Broadcom would have freed up its capacity to reward shareholders in a different, but still meaningful, way. Even with the buyback silver lining, our hope is Broadcom completes the VMWare deal because it should boost Broadcom's earnings over time.

When the Veralto spinoff from Danaher was completed earlier this month, shareholders like us received one VLTO share for every three shares of DHR owned. Recall that in Danaher's earnings report, third-quarter results for the Environmental & Applied Solutions outpaced expectations for both sales and operating income. On Thursday's call, CFO Sameer Ralhan said Veralto implemented some cost optimizations in the third quarter that will start delivering benefits in the ongoing fourth quarter. Other notable dynamics in Veralto's third quarter include free cash flow generation coming in at 113% of GAAP earnings (which was higher than adjusted earnings at 83 cents per share). Finally, Veralto expects to initiate a quarterly dividend of 9 cents per share in the fourth quarter.

But, like us, Wall Street analysts have not waivered in their buy recommendations on Nvidia, despite acknowledging the semiconductor giant's opportunity in China may be diminished long term. Morgan Stanley left its Nvidia earnings estimates unchanged but adjusted the premium it expects investors to pay for those future earnings. All three firms maintained buy-equivalent ratings on Nvidia stock. The tougher export rules announced Tuesday specifically hit a pair of Nvidia AI chips designed to comply with Washington's initial restrictions last year. Lots of Wall Street firms are getting out ahead of this week's earnings from Constellation Brands (STZ) with price target increases. We're buying 7 shares of Broadcom (AVGO) , at roughly $812 apiece. Following Tuesday's trade, Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust will own 80 shares of AVGO, increasing its weighting in the portfolio to 2.38% from 2.18%. AVGO YTD mountain Broadcom YTD As we've noted previously, we think Broadcom will prove to be a key beneficiary of generative artificial intelligence adoption. The acquisition stands to provide a boost to Broadcom's overall gross margin profile, given VMWare's gross margin in the mid-80th percentile. That's firmly above the 75% gross margin we saw for Broadcom overall in fiscal Q3.

We started buying semiconductor giant Broadcom (AVGO) last month and added to our position a few times since it reported fiscal third-quarter results Aug. 31. Indeed, the Thursday morning sell-off in Broadcom, which was down 4.3% at its intraday lows, is an overreaction. While Broadcom's AI revenue is growth is growing incredibly fast, the rest of its semiconductor business is stabilizing after working through its post-Covid inventory gluts. In fact, with the additional of VMware, Broadcom's companywide revenues will be about half semiconductor and half software. Excluding these AI-related sales, semiconductor sales have largely stabilized around the $6 billion level and management continues to think that a "soft landing" is still in the cards. In fact, networking revenue was up 20% versus the year ago period and now represents 40% of revenue at the company's semiconductor segment. Elsewhere within semiconductor solutions, wireless revenues (24% of segment revenue) were flat year-over-year, as was revenue for server storage connectivity (17% of segment revenue). Broadband sales (16% of segment revenue) moderated to 1% year-over-year growth following nine-consecutive quarters of double-digit growth. As August is known to be, it's been a rough month-to-date for all three of those stock market benchmarks so far. This past week, the overall market was oversold, according to Jim Cramer's trusted S & P Oscillator. After Friday's strong finish, we'll see if the market's oversold condition abates as two major themes play out in the week ahead: Earnings from two Club names — Salesforce (CRM) and Broadcom (AVGO) — and key economic reports ahead of September's Fed meeting. Outside of the labor market and inflation, we'll also get a look at the housing market with the pending home sales on Wednesday.
