A combination of technologies — from various forms of batteries to other energy storage methods — will likely be necessary to increase capacity. As shown in this render, energy storage company Energy Vault, along with Skidmore, Owens & Merrill, the architecture and engineering firm behind some of the world's tallest buildings, is integrating gravity energy storage technology into building designs. A view of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, in December 2022. Two energy storage experts contacted by CNN questioned if the economics of a skyscraper battery could work, given the space that would need to be used for energy storage and the structural changes that would be needed to support the extra weight. Energy Vault has already completed a project in China which it says is the world’s first commercial-scale, non-pumped hydro gravitational energy storage system.

Kave and fellow American ex-pat Jennifer Crain are the co-founders of Abricot, a cocktail bar in Paris' 10th arrondissement. The bar has a small staff: three hourly employees and three contract employees. A mutual connection virtually introduced Kave and Crain shortly after, and the pair started expanding Crain's idea for a Parisian cocktail bar. They found a location and named their business Abricot, which is French slang for female genitalia. The delays ate up most of the initial investment, Crain says, as Abricot paid rent for over a year before it opened.

YouTube's biggest creator has been embroiled in a string of recent controversies. Donaldson, 26, has generally avoided the controversies that have felled some of his peers during his 12 years online. "It's going to be a mess," said one Amazon insider, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the show. Beyond these new controversies, Donaldson has faced further criticism for an old video clip of him making racist and homophobic comments that has recirculated on social media.

While several tech giants have taken a hit amid the crushed hype around artificial intelligence, Palantir Technologies is an AI beneficiary that is here to stay, according to Bank of America. "We liken the market, industry, and investor attitudes toward AI to that of the California gold rush," Mora wrote in a Tuesday note to clients, adding that the "AI rush" appears to have run dry given the recent tech sell-off. "As it was with the gold rush, the real benefactors were the entrepreneurs that supported the rush. "PLTR is well-positioned as enriched data, connectivity, and interoperability are what define the new era of defense," the analyst said. The firm kept its underweight rating and $20 price target on the stock.

More than in any other foreign arena, Vance has sought to echo Trump on the Ukraine war. In doing so, he emphasized the thick vein of “scarcity politics” that runs through his foreign policy, arguing that the U.S. can’t equip Ukraine with enough materiel to hold back an opponent as vast as Russia. Vance described Ukraine ceding territory to Vladimir Putin as being in “America’s best interest” while appearing more supportive than Trump of remaining in NATO. The foreign policy views of Pence, vice president when Trump was in office, while not loved by everyone, were at least “mature” — they were informed by several terms experiencing the consequences of foreign policy becoming reality, according to Daniel Kurtzer, a former U.S. ambassador to Israel and now a professor at Princeton. Vance, on the other hand, brings “no foreign policy experience, certainly no expertise,” Kurtzer says, and he will fall in behind his boss when needed.

Ina Jaffe, an NPR correspondent for roughly 40 years who was known for her unflinching approach to journalism and was the first editor of the network’s initial iteration of the weekly national news show “Weekend Edition Saturday,” died on Thursday. NPR confirmed her death in an article, which did not say where she died. Ms. Jaffe had been living with metastatic breast cancer for several years. Often described by colleagues as a “reporter’s reporter,” Ms. Jaffe had a keen sense of the line separating the equitable and the unjust. In addition to “Weekend Edition,” she contributed stories for the daily afternoon news program “All Things Considered.”

The findings suggest some OB-GYN residents are receiving less training in abortion care, which could leave them unprepared for emergency situations. They’re based on conversations with leaders and educators from 20 OB-GYN residency programs conducted from February to June. The report also highlights how little education some OB-GYN residents are receiving in how to provide an abortion. In the past, residency programs often partnered with abortion clinics to provide that training, but in states with abortion bans, those clinics have shut down. Some patients, doctors and advocates have begun to seek that clarity in court.

But the idea that the customer is always right also contains a worldview, a kind of market fundamentalism that typifies much of the American right today.
