Early on December 20, 1989, Delta Force operators descended on a Panamanian prison holding a CIA operative. But it was also the first time that Delta Force successfully completed a large-scale hostage rescue. In the months prior to the mission, the Delta operators practiced the mission multiple times. Once inside the cell, the Delta operators gave Muse a helmet, body armor, and goggles for protection before heading back to the MH-6s. A few minutes later, armored personnel carriers, carrying Delta operators and medics from the main invasion force, rescued them.

Pakistani Taliban militants detained at the centre had snatched interrogators' weapons and taken them captive on Sunday. Asif did not say how many militants were killed or how many hostages they had held. Residents said they heard explosions coming from the vicinity of the centre on Tuesday as helicopters hovered overhead. Ukraine's army claimed on Wednesday to have made the world's second-longest sniper kill. The shot would be roughly three times the height of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. The 24 seconds of grainy thermal imaging footage show a figure identified by Ukraine's armed forces as "the occupier," suggesting the apparent kill took place in occupied Ukraine. In the post, Ukraine's armed forces gave a nod to British former sniper Craig Harrison as having formerly held the record for second-longest shot, and who the Ukrainian army claims to have nudged into third place. Another pre-existing claim to second place is a kill by an unnamed member of Australia's second commando regiment in 2012, at 1.3 miles, or 2.81 km.

Elite Afghan commandos are being contacted with offers to fight for Russia in Ukraine, reports Foreign Policy. One Afghan official said he believed Russia's mercenary Wagner Group is behind the recruitment drive. One former Afghan commando officer told Foreign Policy that he believed the shadowy Wagner Group was behind the recruitment drive. The Afghan Elite National Army Commando Corps, made up of 20,000 to 30,000 volunteers, was partly trained by US Navy SEALs and the British Special Air Service, per Foreign Policy. A former senior Afghan security official, speaking anonymously to Foreign Policy, said that the Afghan fighters "would be a game-changer" in the war.

For several nights the sound of 34-year-old Panya Khamrap’s 9 mm pistol cracked the silence in the sleepy village of Tha Uthai, neighbours said. Another neighbour said that days before his rampage the village chief warned Panya about his behaviour. They argued and the village chief was afraid, said the neighbour, Suwan Tonsomsen. Another neighbour told Reuters he had seen Panya's mother with his degree certificate. Teachers in the nursery had put the children down for their nap by the time Panya arrived at around 12:30 p.m.
