Not long after Rosalynn Carter, the former first lady, died on Sunday, politicians from both sides of the aisle commended her work in that public role and the strides she made for women’s rights, mental health and many other causes. The Carter Center in Atlanta announced her death, calling her “a passionate champion of mental health, caregiving, and women’s rights.” The center disclosed in May that Mrs. Carter had dementia and on Friday that she had entered hospice care at home. Like many first ladies, Mrs. Carter used her prominent position to champion a cause: the treatment of mental illness. She was named honorary chairwoman of the Carter administration’s mental health commission, and she led the White House Conference on Aging, which started in 1977. She held nationwide hearings on both topics, testified before Congress and pressed for legislation to support mental health centers and to offer insurance coverage for the care of mental illness.

The children had a high degree of physical contact and care for most of time they were observed. Nikhil ChaudharyResponses to cryingWhat was notable, Chaudhary said, wasn’t necessarily the amount of care children received, but that mothers weren’t responsible for all of it. Other caregivers — fathers, older siblings and nonrelatives — were responsible for 38% to 46% of close care, according to the study. The mean number of caregivers other than a child’s mother was 14.4, but these weren’t all adults. “How representative would a day care center with 18 children in inner-city London be of childhood … anywhere?” he asked.

Black hair has been a rousing topic for politicians, comedians and artists for decades. Malcolm X argued that straightening Black hair to conform to white beauty standards was a form of racist brainwashing. Regina Kimbell made a documentary with the brilliant title “My Nappy Roots: A Journey Through Black Hair-itage” (2010) and the comedian Chris Rock made a similar documentary, “Good Hair” (2009), about the Black hair industry (and, of course, got in trouble at the Oscars for mentioning a Black actress’s lack of hair). Now a Broadway play, “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding,” written by Jocelyn Bioh, celebrates the “masterpieces” created by West African immigrants on women’s heads in a Harlem braiding shop. What’s often missing from the Black hair narrative is the experience of Black nonbinary people.

Provinces and territories fund long-term care services through general tax revenue. Notably, Canada’s long-term care system is separate from its national health care system, which pays for hospitals and doctors with no out-of-pocket costs to patients. on long-term care, 80 percent more than the United States spent. Britain has also taken steps to shield people from losing all of their wealth to pay for long-term care. Singapore recently instituted a system of mandatory long-term care insurance for those born in 1980 or later.

And when work and caregiving conflict, women are more likely to take a step back. Most post-pandemic debate around remote work has focused on whether it’s here to stay. Some version of it seems likely: About 70 percent of workers who can do their jobs off-site still work remotely either all or some days. But if old attitudes about more flexible work resurge — outspoken executives have recently described it as “lazy,” not for leaders and a perk for those who don’t “work as hard”— then it may not matter if hybrid options are widespread. This is especially true for highly skilled jobs, because women hold the majority of college degrees.

Dr. Dunbar, a nurse-practitioner who lives in Wallingford, Pa., is younger, at 61, but has coped with caregiving for far longer: Her husband, Jeffrey Draine, 60, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2017. Philip Sadtler, 80, received his diagnosis just two years ago, so his wife has long lists of questions about what lies ahead. Caregiving is difficult for everyone but it can take a particular emotional and financial toll on sons because they tend to keep things to themselves, don’t seek support, and feel uncomfortable providing personal care. “We don’t see many resources tailored to men, who end up feeling isolated,” says Jason Resendez, CEO of the National Alliance for Caregiving.

Newer entrants like "Girl math" and "Girl dinner" have joined those that have been around for years, like "Girlboss." But, the snail girl trend has gotten pushback online — with many people commenting that they're over all the "girl" trends. The girl math hashtag has more than one billion views and tons of videos of young women explaining how they use girl math to feel better about their finances. "The online trends are kind of like an inside joke and an abbreviation for much larger context," Lintz told Insider. Snail girl: Snail girls are the antithesis of girlbosses.

How do we bring the best out in our boys, so they become the best of men? I think boys can turn into better men if we teach our sons that they don’t have to fight the world. And so, with practice — it didn’t come naturally to me — I smile and say, “They’re great kids.” That’s the overheard praise. Single women face unique challenges when planning for retirement, so I asked an expert for help. Plus, women are often put in a caregiving role, which means time off from work — and not contributing regularly to retirement funds. So how can single women like me juggle with inflation, a higher cost of living, dwindling income, and the gender wage gap to be on track for retirement? I asked Marie Thomasson, a certified financial planner and founder of Modern Assets, an LA-based financial advisory firm for independent, progressive women, for tips on how single women can steer the course and make sure they're on track with their goals for retirement planning. Reassess your retirement accountsOnce you have your financial bases covered, you can venture into investing and retirement planning, says Thomasson.

Claudia Goldin, a Harvard University professor, has spent nearly her entire career investigating what drives the persistent gender gap in the labor market, and how to narrow it. Through her ongoing research, Goldin, 77, has provided the first comprehensive account of American women's earnings and job market outcomes through the centuries, the Nobel committee said in the prize announcement. "We are never going to have gender equality, or narrow the pay gap, until we have couple's equity," Goldin tells CNBC Make It. True equity for dual-career couples remains "frustratingly out of reach," Goldin adds, because of "greedy jobs" and parenting norms. Increasing government funding of child care and the number of high-paying jobs in which people can share duties, rather than burn out, can help narrow the gender pay gap, says Goldin.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is bullish on the benefits of artificial intelligence, which is already being used by thousands of employees at his bank, and he predicts it'll usher in the norm of a shortened workweek. "Your children are going to live to 100 and not have cancer because of technology," Dimon said Monday in an interview with Bloomberg TV. Dimon says the bank's investments in AI "will add huge value" and is being leveraged across the firm's research, trading, customer service and other functions. When asked if the technology is likely to replace some bank jobs, he responded that "of course" it will, but that "technologies always replace jobs." Tech innovations also create new jobs and opportunity: AI technology could improve labor productivity and boost global GDP by as much as 7% over time, Goldman Sachs' report noted.

White non-Hispanic families in the U.S. have a median wealth of $188,200, compared with $36,100 for Hispanic families, according to data analyzed by the Brookings Institution. In 2016, about half of Hispanic families weren't able to contribute anything to the costs of their children's higher education, UnidosUS, an advocacy organization, found. Latino caregivers have high financial strainFamily caregivers spend on average 26% of their annual income on caregiving activities, according to a 2021 report by AARP. The organization calls that measure "financial strain," and bases it on the caregiving expenses relative to a caregiver's annual income. Compared to other races and ethnicities, Hispanic and Latino caregivers have the highest financial strain, AARP found, with caregiving expenses that account for 47% of annual income. CNN —If your main fitness goal is weight loss, you may want to consider the time of day you’re exercising. Positive links between moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and weight loss have been previously reported by other researchers. In the latest study, morning exercisers were the most sedentary even though they had the lowest BMI and waist circumference. Greater weight loss can also result from doing exercise that’s more concentrated or structured, the authors said — another pattern they found among the morning group. If you can fit it in, “early morning aerobic exercise — such as biking, running or even brisk walking to start with — is a promising tool for weight loss,” Ma said.
