NEW YORK, Nov 30 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Jiang Zemin, who died on Wednesday, catapulted China into the modern world. And his death comes at an inconvenient time for the current president, Xi Jinping. Chosen as party chief weeks before the violent 1989 suppression of Tiananmen Square protesters who demanded economic and political reforms, Jiang inherited a system riven by infighting. While numbers can deceive in a state-led economy like China’s, Jiang still notched up some encouraging stats. Eisai and Biogen are scheduled to present full data from their lecanemab study on Tuesday at the Clinical Trials on Alzheimer's Disease conference in San Francisco. Lecanemab’s success rests on years of research into the causes of Alzheimer’s as well as advances in measuring amyloid deposits through brain scans and spinal fluids. At least 16 treatments are being tested in clinical trials, with results expected over the next three years, according to a Reuters review of the clinicaltrials.gov registry. The drugmaker has been largely absent from the Alzheimer's space after the high-profile failure of its drug verubecestat five years ago. But several antibody therapies from Lilly, Biogen and AbbVie(ABBV.N) that were designed to slow the rate of tau accumulations failed outright last year.
LISBON, Portugal — Ark Invest founder Cathie Wood thinks Elon Musk might be onto something with his vision for Twitter. "He's thinking about a super app like WeChat Pay," Wood said at the Web Summit technology conference in Lisbon, Portugal, Wednesday. Wood was referring to the digital payments service of Chinese messaging app WeChat. Tesla CEO Musk has already hinted at plans to make Twitter a super app. "He and [Twitter co-founder] Jack Dorsey working together, I think, could turn this into a super app."
According to Musk, the Twitter acquisition will play a part in the creation of a super app called X. If Musk plans to turn Twitter into X, it will likely mean bringing in many new features. Although reports vary about Musk's full intentions, the billionaire has made repeated claims that the acquisition would play a part in the creation of a super app, or what he has also referred to as an "everything app." If Musk plans to create his everything app with Twitter it will mean bringing in many new features. 'Grand vision'Musk has stated that the Twitter acquisition may speed up the creation of his super app by three to five years.
The long term potential for Twitter in my view is an order of magnitude greater than its current value." "Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app," Musk tweeted earlier this month. Twitter permanently suspended Trump for risk of further incitement of violence after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Tesla's expanding business in China, where it generated $14 billion last year, could also put Twitter at risk, Goldman, the former Twitter board member, said. Twitter is staffed with experts who review data requests from governments, but Musk has shown his contempt of these experts, he said.
An Arkansas motorcyclist was engulfed in a "fireball" and is recuperating in the hospital after a state trooper deployed a Taser and it hit a gallon of gasoline in his backpack, authorities said. Christopher Gaylor, 38, was struck by the Taser after setting Arkansas troopers on a police chase after him in the early hours of Oct. 13 in Little Rock, state police said in a news release. A trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Gaylor “refused to comply” and kept on driving, reaching speeds approaching 100 mph and ignoring traffic stop signs and lights along the way, state police said. Arkansas State PoliceGaylor eventually made his way toward Interstate 30 and jumped from the motorcycle at a residence along Chandler Street in North Little Rock and fled on foot with troopers following behind. One trooper then deployed his Taser to stop Gaylor.

Elon Musk said he is "excited about the Twitter situation" on Tesla's earnings call. Musk spent months and millions of dollars trying to walk away from his deal to buy Twitter before agreeing to go through with the purchase. Musk said the company has "incredible potential" but has "languished for a long time." "I'm excited about the Twitter situation, because obviously I know their product very well," Musk said on Tesla's earnings call on Wednesday. Following a tumultuous several months — and an estimated $100 million in personal legal fees — Musk again offered to buy Twitter for his original asking price earlier this month.
