Investors should look to stocks that enhance productivity as companies seek to replace scarce labor with machines, according to Evercore ISI. The chart below includes two stocks Emanuel found for each use case. The stock has surged more than 50% since the start of 2023, rebounding along with other technology stocks after 2022's sell-off. Equinix shares have risen nearly 17% year to date and Evercore ISI expects shares to advance another 8.5%. The stock should also be helped by reshoring trends, as well as its investments in AI and improving labor productivity, Emanuel said.

In fact, more than any other trait among their peers, Gen Zs and millennials admire the ability to balance work and life priorities, the survey found. Both Gen Zers and millennials worry that if the economy worsens, it will make it more difficult for younger workers to ask for flexibility at work and improve their work-life balance, the survey found. Though respondents do believe employers have made progress enabling better work/life balance since pre-pandemic, according to the survey.

The high cost of living is the "top societal concern" of Gen Zers and millennials, a Deloitte survey found. Financial concerns have pushed 46% of Gen Zs and 37% of millennials to find a second job. The 2023 survey of more than 22,000 Gen Zers and millennials around the world found the high cost of living is the "top societal concern" of both generations, with 51% of Gen Zers and 52% millennials reporting they live paycheck to paycheck. Also, 46% of Gen Zs and 37% of millennials have taken on either a part- or full-time paying job in addition to their primary position, according to the survey. A March survey of 1,009 adults ages 24 to 35 by TIAA Institute found that 51% of Gen Zers and millennials don't expect to do as well financially as their parents.

Gen Zs and millennials are increasingly taking on second jobs as money concerns mount, a Deloitte survey says. Some 46% of Gen Zs currently have either a full- or part-time job in addition to their main one, a new Deloitte survey shows. For their 2023 Gen Z and Millennial Survey, Deloitte gathered responses from 14,483 Gen Zs and 8,373 millennials from 44 countries around the world. Data from Deloitte's survey shows that the cost of living is the biggest concern for millennials and Gen Z right now. "Economic concerns are hampering Gen Zs' and millennials' ability to plan for their future, and causing them to postpone major life decisions," she adds.

I'm all for learning on the job, but that type of knowledge seems like a prerequisite for buying a business with more than $70 billion in venture debt. But, if First Citizens is as ill-equipped to take over SVB's venture-debt business as some believe, that only further complicates the matter.

And they're bringing their tech-savviness, social consciousness and spending habits in tow, which is transforming a travel industry intent on staying ahead of the times. "When it comes to nearly all travel behaviors, millennials are the generation most likely to engage — and they do so often," said Lindsey Roeschke, travel and hospitality analyst at Morning Consult. Where millennials stayFrederic Lalonde, CEO of the travel app Hopper, said its customers are twice as likely to stay in a home than a hotel. "It's all driven by our primary users, who are millennials and Gen Z," he said at the Skift Global Forum 2022. Since 2019, Airbnb home rentals increased the most among travelers with children aged six and younger, according to the company.
Two Gen Z travelers tell Insider they're willing to pay up for an authentic experience that also feels luxurious. One hospitality expert says technology and convenience should be at the forefront of hoteliers' minds when targeting Gen Z guests. "When it comes to traveling, Gen Z prioritizes authenticity and living in the moment," said Sharon Silverstein, the head of US verticals at Snapchat parent company Snap. "(Gen Z wants) to feel like they're doing something – that they're relevant — because they're living at home and can't afford to live otherwise. So Gen Z spends its money on experiences, but they want those experiences to be educational and have values that support their beliefs," Dawson Sheehan said.
Some of the major players in the fitness sector have pushed the envelope on membership rates after the pandemic scare, helping them beef up earnings, when most other industries are under stress from the impact of a cautious consumer. Larger rival Planet Fitness Inc (PLNT.N) added 400,000 members in the fourth quarter, taking the total to about 17 million in 2022. "People that are working out, are working out slightly more than they did in the past ... So even with the recessionary talks and layoffs you see, cancellations are just slightly better," Planet Fitness CEO Chris Rondeau said at a JPMorgan conference last week. A Planet Fitness executive said Gen Z represented 25% of the company's total membership.
