The team announced April 19 it had purchased land in Las Vegas, then a month later replaced that location with a deal with Bally’s and Gaming & Leisure Properties to build a stadium on the Tropicana hotel site along the Las Vegas Strip. While San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose is the 10th-largest television market in the U.S., Las Vegas is the 40th.

Unions representing hospitality workers in Las Vegas reached a tentative agreement on Wednesday with one of the city’s three major resort operators, two days before a strike deadline that loomed just as tourists arrive for a major international sporting event. The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165, which are affiliates of Unite Here, announced the tentative agreement on a five-year contract with Caesars Entertainment but did not provide details. The culinary union said the deal had been reached after 20 straight hours of negotiations and covered 10,000 workers. Caesars said in a statement that the accord would provide “meaningful wage increases that align with our past performance, along with continued opportunities for growth tied to our future plans to bring more union jobs to the Las Vegas Strip.”The two unions last week said that 35,000 members would walk off the job on Friday at 18 hotels along The Strip owned by Caesars, MGM Resorts International and Wynn Resorts, posing a major threat to the city’s economy.

The Monday ruling from Carson City District Court Judge James Russell sided with two lobbyists affiliated with trade unions that favor the public financing for the A's stadium. Russell sent the teachers union-backed Schools over Stadiums political action committee back to the drawing board in their attempts to thwart the public funding that the state Legislature approved this year. "We’re undeterred and still committed to giving Nevada voters the opportunity to decide whether their tax dollars are used to subsidize a billionaire’s stadium” — a reference to A's owner John Fisher. CNN —The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 will strike on November 10 at 5 am PT if a contract is not agreed by then, they said in a news release Thursday. Thirty-five thousand workers would strike across 18 casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip if a five-year contract is not reached, the release said. In September, members voted 95% in favor of a strike authorization in Las Vegas, the unions said at the time. The two unions represent 60,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, and 53,000 workers were eligible to vote in September’s strike authorization, a release from the unions said at the time. Approximately 40,000 members were working under an expired contract that had ended earlier, they said.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The former street gang leader charged with orchestrating the 1996 drive-by killing of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas is expected to plead not guilty Thursday to murder, amid questions of whether he'll hire a defense lawyer or a judge appoints a public defender. Goodman spoke for Davis outside court two weeks ago, saying that prosecutors lack key evidence and witnesses to the killing committed 27 years ago. The attorney didn't give a reason Wednesday why Davis couldn’t hire him. He was arrested Sept. 29 outside a home in suburban Henderson where Las Vegas police served a search warrant July 17, drawing renewed attention to the unsolved murder of one of hip-hop music’s most enduring icons.
