The inaugural test launch of a Starship and Super Heavy — called an integrated test flight — took off in April 2023. The last test launch — the fourth of SpaceX’s integrated test flight campaign — took off in June. On the fifth test flight, the upper Starship spacecraft will once again attempt to land upright in a controlled maneuver over the ocean. Thailand’s foreign ministry said it was “profoundly saddened” by the death of a Thai worker in northern Israel on Friday, according to a statement. The Thai foreign ministry disputed that account, saying the death, and the injury of another of its nationals, had resulted from “an explosion of dropped ammunition” without providing additional details. The statement said the embassy was working to evacuate 10 additional Thai nationals from the kibbutz where the incident had occurred. CNN —Federal regulators granted SpaceX its long-awaited license to move forward with a fifth uncrewed test launch of Starship, the most powerful rocket system ever constructed. The FAA had been expected to hand down a license for this test launch weeks ago. SpaceX has also publicly denied reports that the company violated wastewater regulations with the deluge system, which SpaceX says uses potable water. Notably, the company launched a 2020 test flight of a prototype rocket, called Starship SN8, without obtaining prior approval from the FAA for a public safety waiver. At one point in 2023, for example, he said that he did not blame the FAA for holding up Starship launches.

A powerful eruption from the sun is expected to supercharge the northern lights on Thursday evening, making colorful sky shows visible potentially as far south as Alabama and Northern California. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center said Thursday that plasma and other materials from the sun reached Earth at 11:17 a.m. If conditions are clear, skywatchers in Canada and many northern U.S. states — including Alaska, Washington state, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin — will likely have the best views of the northern lights. Highly active auroras could also be visible in parts of Northern California, Nevada, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. A man fell to his death while he was canyoneering in Utah's Zion National Park on Saturday, the National Park Service said in a release. The man, 40, died after he accidentally fell near the exit of Heaps Canyon around 6 p.m., the park service said Sunday. The man was canyoneering with three other people when he fell 150 to 200 feet, the NPS said. The Zion National Park Technical Search and Rescue Team and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded and gave emergency medical care to the man, the NPS said. Both the park and the sheriff's office are investigating the death, the NPS said.
