Beloved finger-wagging Hall of Fame center Dikembe Mutombo, one of basketball's most feared shot blockers, died of brain cancer, the NBA announced on Monday. Dikembe Mutombo playing for the Georgetown Hoyas in Landover, Md., on Jan. 1, 1991. The future Hall of Fame coach, who developed future NBA big man Patrick Ewing and had Alonzo Mourning on campus, convinced Mutombo to turn his attention to the hardwood. Mutombo parlayed his Georgetown play into becoming the fourth overall pick of the Denver Nuggets in the 1991 NBA Draft. "Other than what he has accomplished on the basketball court, I think he was even better off the court."

London-based photographer Caroline Furneaux was confronted with these questions after sifting through boxes of her father’s 35mm slides in the years following his sudden death in his 70s. Furneaux felt as if she had stumbled upon a different version of her father and his life. Caroline FurneauxFurneaux explores these fragments of her father’s life throughout the book. It was a precious collection because his stepmother had burned all the family photos and other ephemera from the past, Furneaux told CNN. Furneaux intentionally didn’t include any couple’s shots, still finding it strange to picture her father with his past romances.

CNN —Basketball Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo – known for his shot-blocking and famed finger wave after denying opponents at the hoop – died Monday from brain cancer aged 58, according to the NBA. Dikembe Mutombo wags his finger during a game in Atlanta in 1998. In 1997, Mutombo established the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation with a mission to improve education and quality of life in his native DRC. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued a statement, saying, “Dikembe Mutombo was simply larger than life. DALLAS — Newly emerged film footage of President John F. Kennedy’s motorcade speeding down a Dallas freeway toward a hospital after he was fatally wounded sold at auction Saturday for $137,500. The auction house said the buyer wishes to remain anonymous. The film then picks up after Kennedy has been shot, with Carpenter rolling as the motorcade roars down Interstate 35. Projecting it onto his bedroom wall around 2010, gates was at first underwhelmed by the footage from Lemmon Avenue. The auction house has released still photos from the portion of the film showing the race down I-35, but it is not publicly releasing video of that part.
