Turning the tide in the Black SeaSwedish Marines also operate the CB90-class fast assault craft. Following a six-month effort by Steel Front and Ukrainian steel giant Metinvest, the three vessels and crew training for Ukrainian forces cost more than $4.1 million. In total, Sweden has provided at least 13 CB90s to Ukraine's navy. The Netherlands donated nearly two dozen inflatable and armored boats, including three CB90s, to Ukraine in March. It wasn't immediately clear what type of vessels were sent, but Finnish media speculated them to operate similarly to the Swedish CB-90.

CNN —A piece of woolly mammoth skin excavated from the Siberian permafrost has been found to contain fossil chromosomes in a first-of-its-kind discovery, according to a new study. The new study revealed that fossils of ancient chromosomes survive in this skin sample. But the DNA from elephants was also needed to assemble the mammoth genome. The researchers hope to use the findings to assemble the woolly mammoth genome completely. “This structural information provides insights into functions of the woolly mammoth genome that were invisible using previous genomic methods,” Heintzman said in an email.

Known for its picturesque and well-preserved traditional Korean houses called “hanok,” Bukchon Hanok Village is one of Seoul’s most popular tourist hot spots – attracting thousands of visitors every day. But tourists greatly outnumber residents and complaints about noise, littering and privacy issues in the vicinity have escalated over the years. Located in the Jongno district in downtown Seoul, Bukchon sits near other cultural landmarks like the Jongmyo royal ancestral shrine and the grand Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces. In a bid to ease tensions and control crowds, district officials will start to restrict tourist access to the popular village from as early as October this year. Out-of-control tourists have been especially problematic in Kyoto, one of Japan’s most popular tourist cities, famed for its iconic Gion geisha district.

CNN —The oldest known plague victims date back to around 5,000 years ago in Europe. Genetic time travelGenetic information about pathogens can be preserved in human DNA, allowing scientists to time travel to find out about ancient diseases and how they evolved. (It’s also not possible to know for sure whether the people studied died of the plague — only that they were infected.) Karl-Göran SjögrenNonetheless, the study authors said their findings did not necessarily suggest a swift and deadly plague epidemic. Instead, the team found evidence of three distinct infection events, plus different variants of the bacterium that causes plague.

From recent graduates to wealthy professionals, many Brits are considering moving abroad these days. Over half of British workers (52%) have considered leaving the United Kingdom for better working opportunities abroad, according to the British human resources website Employer News. Others are in search of affordable housing and lower taxes, it said, citing research from London-based financial services company Prograd. But contemplating moving abroad, and actually doing it, are very different things, especially for parents, who must consider if the grass is greener abroad — with the whole family in mind. But the United States — often referred to as Britain's "cousin" — comes in dead last in the ranking of 28 countries, dragged down by high childcare costs and long work hours.

But with tens of millions of Americans traveling abroad every year, the likelihood is that you’ll encounter us wherever you are in the world. So, here are my top 10 tips on how you can avoid the “stupid American” stereotype and become a “Smart American” abroad. However, when I’m traveling abroad, I’m always careful to keep it to, what feels like, a quiet whisper. As a result, many Americans often have little to no knowledge of what’s going on around the world, thus unfairly adding to the “stupid American” stereotype. Beat them to the punch with humorMy biggest secret weapon against being called a “stupid American” is calling myself a “stupid American” first and laughing about it.

Götene, about 200 miles from Stockholm, is selling plots of land starting at 1 krona per square meter or nine US cents per 10 square feet. Buyers must build a home on the land with plans to either live there permanently or use it as a vacation property, according to CNN. The plots being put up for sale had been on the market for many years, Månsson said. Since the town launched the scheme in May, it has received thousands of requests and the government has decided to pause buying until early August so they can fine-tune the process. CNN reports that when Götene starts selling off land again, it is likely there will be a bidding process instead of just selling the plots at that low price of 1 krona per square meter.

Lightning stops playAfter several days of hot weather, the skies above Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park had been gathering throughout the evening. Thunder and lightning could be heard from afar, with the rain arriving after 32 minutes of Germany’s last-16 game against Denmark. Soon after, lightning flashes could be seen from inside the stadium, with two to three ear-splitting cracks of thunder. The suspension lasted for around 24 minutes — with preparations to restart occurring as soon as the lighting had moved out of the area. Players reemerged from their changing rooms five minutes before the resumption, and waited momentarily for groundstaff to test the pitch.

CNN —After 800 years of calm, volcanoes have awakened in the Reykjanes Peninsula of Iceland — about 56 kilometers (35 miles) south of the nation’s capital, Reykjavik. While there is no risk of a global calamity happening, researchers are now warning that new scientific evidence suggests the eruptions originating from the Reykjanes Peninsula could continue for years or even decades. But people staying there, with the possibility of a very rapid onset of volcanic activity, I don’t think that’s recommended. “The Reykjanes peninsula is exactly on this plate boundary,” he added, “and it seems that we are now witnessing the earliest part of a major eruption episode. Icelandic geoscientists and international collaborators are tracking the frequency and intensity of seismic activity and ground deformation in real time.

"Two or three cuts is a forecast, it's not a promise, and we will adapt monetary policy according to incoming information," Thedéen told CNBC's Arabile Gumede. "Our inflation forecast is pointing to a good inflation outlook, we're still already now very close to our target and our forecast has pointed to 2% inflation in the coming months and years," Thedéen said. In order to deliver more rate cuts, "we don't need to have a super positive surprise, we need to have data coming in in-line overall. So I think that would be the main message," Thedéen told CNBC. The technology to store renewable energy for long periods hasn’t quite been mastered, either. The interconnector would send renewable energy both east and west, taking advantage of the sun’s diurnal journey across the sky. The transatlantic interconnector is still a proposal, but networks of green energy cables are starting to sprawl across the world’s sea beds. They are fast becoming part of a global climate solution, transmitting large amounts of renewable energy to countries struggling to make the green transition alone. Not all of them carry renewable power exclusively — that’s sometimes determined by what makes up each country’s energy grid — but new ones are typically being built for a green energy future.

The American Psychological Association highlights findings that people who find their jobs meaningful are more engaged, show up to work more, and are healthier. Many in those industries have begun to refer to their work as "fake email jobs" — office jobs that largely involve sending emails without producing anything. Other people have managed to juggle multiple full-time remote jobs thanks to the limited amount of work each job actually required. Working a useless job is a "profound psychological violence," Graeber wrote, one that removes any sense of dignity and fosters "deep rage and resentment." Short of everyone quitting to become their own CEO, employers will need to figure out how to make work feel meaningful for their staff.
