"I can confirm that the Australian government is planning multiple flights to depart from Tel Aviv today for Australians wanting to leave," Wong told reporters in Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. I want to stress these flights remain subject to factors including the security environment," she added on Sunday. Two planned flights were cancelled late on Saturday because of what the foreign affairs department called a "highly challenging" regional situation. Repatriation flights scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will not depart as planned amid a "highly challenging and rapidly changing" situation, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said in a statement on social media. Australia continues to work with citizens in the area to help them return home and will communicate about future flights, DFAT added. The first in the planned series of repatriation flights left on Friday local time, with over 200 Australians and their families arriving safely in London, according to SBS News.

The Japanese yen shed nearly 0.3% to about 149.73 yen against the dollar, nearing the 150 yen level that prompted BOJ intervention last year. Hawkish comments in the minutes of a lively BOJ September policy meeting released earlier Monday reignited expectations the BOJ is slowly laying the groundwork for the end to negative interest rates.

Mexico City CNN —At least 10 Cuban migrants died and 17 others were injured when the truck they were traveling in overturned in southern Mexico on Sunday, Mexican authorities say. The truck was “irregularly” transporting 27 Cuban nationals on the Pijijiapan-Tonalá highway in the southern state of Chiapas when the accident occurred, Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) said in a statement. Officials said initial reports suggested the driver had been speeding and lost control of the unit, fleeing the scene after it overturned. Migrants from Central America and the Caribbean sometimes travel through Mexico in trucks and trailers in the hope of reaching the United States. In 2021, 55 people were killed and more than 100 injured when a truck also believed to be carrying migrants overturned in Chiapas state, which borders Guatemala.

The museum said last month it had sacked a staff member over stolen, missing or damaged items in a crisis that highlighted internal failings and led to its director quitting days later. Home to treasures such as the Rosetta Stone and the Parthenon marbles, the British Museum houses one of the world's most visited collections and has since tightened its security. Sixty items had now been returned, with a further 300 identified and due to be handed back imminently, the museum said in a statement.

India's local bonds will be included in the Government Bond Index-Emerging Markets (GBI-EM) index and the index suite, benchmarked by about $236 billion in global funds according to JPMorgan. JPMorgan said 23 Indian Government Bonds (IGBs) with a combined notional value of $330 billion are eligible. "India's weight is expected to reach the maximum weight threshold of 10% in the GBI-EM Global Diversified (.JPMGBIEMGD), and approximately 8.7% in the GBI-EM Global index," said JPMorgan. Foreign investor buying in Indian bonds has remained tepid with net purchases of $3.4 billion so far in 2023. The Indian rupee rose 0.3% in offshore trade before local markets opened while traders expected local bond yields to fall sharply.

At present migrants to Italy who apply for asylum are free to move within the country while their application is reviewed, but the government decree published on Friday said they would have to pay a type of bail to stave off the threat of detention. "They are looking to make detention for migrants the norm, but it is hard to see how they can do that," she told Reuters. At present there are 10 repatriation centres in Italy, which have a current capacity of just 619. In 2022 Italy reviewed 52,625 asylum requests, rejecting 53.5% of them, according to official data.

Officials say the trouble is Italy has limited accords with non-EU nations for repatriations, which makes it hard to send migrants home. In recent years, various governments have signed bilateral readmission accords with various countries, including Tunisia, Egypt and Nigeria. At present there are 10 repatriation centres in Italy, which have a capacity to hold 1,338 migrants until their planned expulsion.
