Right now, California Forever is just a website with some ideology and a handful of hopeful sketches with a faintly socialist-utopian flair. AdvertisementAdvertisementCities of the future of the pastThe California Forever art illustrations show at a place that'll look startlingly familiar. Point is, the garden city remains a dream honored more in the breach — in pitches like the one for California Forever. Just about 60 miles southeast of the California Forever site is a residential development called Mountain House. It's what plans like California Forever look like when brick starts getting laid.

When the center was being built, Mr. O’Farrill was part of an advisory committee of artists; he urged the center to pay close attention to acoustics. He’s a very thoughtful man, and he’s looking to expand the conversation on what performing arts is, what elitism does to the arts. Maybe you make it by bringing music that’s just so incredible that everybody wants to get on the subway and go down there. For a performing arts center to support that speaks straight to my heart. And we have the place called the Perelman Center right next to ground zero that is open to the whole world.

Rep. Lauren Boebert was kicked out of a musical theater performance of "Beetlejuice" last weekend. New video appears to show her being groped by her date during the show, which is geared toward kids 10 and up. Boebert has repeatedly said Democrats are "grooming" children with pro-LGBTQ+ rhetoric. "Four months ago, Lauren Boebert called for a boycott of North Face because the outdoor apparel company featured a drag queen in a harmless, non-sexual advertisement because she believes drag queens are a public sexual nuisance (they are not). Lauren Boebert was kicked out of a musical performance over the weekend. Boebert was reportedly vaping during the show, which her campaign has denied. A pregnant woman said she was seated behind Boebert and that she refused to stop vaping when asked. One person with intimate knowledge of the showing — a pregnant woman sitting behind Boebert — told the Post that she saw Boebert vaping and asked her to stop, which the legislator refused to do, telling her, "No." Surveillance footage shows Boebert giving the middle finger to an usher as she was walked out of the building.

Rep. Lauren Boebert was escorted out of a performance of "Beetlejuice" in Denver over the weekend. Surveillance footage shows her giving the middle finger to an usher as she leaves the venue. An incident report said she was kicked out after vaping, recording on her phone, and being loud. The footage, released by Denver Arts & Venues, a city and council agency responsible for running some of the state's venues, and later published by 9NEWS Denver, shows Boebert being removed from her seat. It then shows Boebert leaving the venue, flanked by ushers.

Two patrons had to be escorted out of a performance of 'Beetlejuice' in Denver, local officials said. The officials said that the patrons were vaping and 'causing a disturbance,' per the Denver Post. The Denver Post confirmed that one of those patrons happened to be GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert. It took more than saying her name three times to get disruptive GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert to leave a performance of the "Beetlejuice" musical in Denver. "I can confirm the stunning and salacious rumors: in her personal time, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is indeed a supporter of the performing arts (gasp!)

Representative Lauren Boebert, a Republican firebrand from Colorado, was ejected from a touring production of the “Beetlejuice” musical in Denver last weekend, making her the latest case study in an evolving debate over how theaters should respond to raucous audience behavior. Ms. Boebert was accused of “causing a disturbance” at the show, according to an incident report from the city of Denver. The accusation is not an unfamiliar one for Ms. Boebert — last year she heckled President Biden during the State of the Union, and the previous year she refused a search of her bag by Capitol security. The incident in Denver, which was previously reported by The Denver Post, occurred during a performance of “Beetlejuice,” which, like the film on which it is based, is about a gleefully devious ghost haunting a suburban home. The musical had a rocky run on Broadway, but became a fan favorite, and has been enjoying a strong tour around the country.

The new Perelman Performing Arts Center is the most glamorous civic building to land in New York in years. You may have noticed the building under construction if you were near the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan during the past year or so. A floating, translucent marble cube, it nestles at the foot of One World Trade Center, just eight stories high, a runt in a herd of mega-tall commercial skyscrapers but impossible to miss. Back then, the city was all-consumed by grief and fear, its economy in free-fall, ground zero still a smoldering gravesite. We were reminded just this week of the toll when the names of the thousands of dead were again read aloud.

Envisioned two decades ago to add vibrancy and draw people to a place of devastation and mourning, the Perelman Performing Arts Center is finally arriving at a very different ground zero. Still, organizers believe the arts space, also called “PAC NYC,” has an important role to play in one of the most sensitive, historic spaces in the United States. “The performing arts center is kind of an amenity for a luxury neighborhood that they built,” said Todd Fine, who runs a advocacy business for historical preservation in lower Manhattan. Early on, the arts center was to house three established groups — two theaters and a visual arts museum — plus a new museum celebrating freedom. Then he came to see it as a step forward for the trade center and on a personal level, an embrace of living life fully.

Here is a chance to see it live, in a McCarter Theater Center-Berkeley Repertory Theater co-production. The play was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2007, when Vogel was on the jury. James Warwick directs the world-premiere production. Directed by John Collins, the company’s artistic director, this world-premiere production instead samples chunks from each of the novel’s 18 episodes, letting them erupt in all their verbosity, vulgarity, vivacity and — it is Joyce, after all — opacity. The Sarajevo Film Festival, which was founded towards the end of the Bosnian war by a group of film enthusiasts, has become southeastern Europe's largest such event, showcasing 235 films this year. After the end of the Bosnian war, in 1997, U2 staged a huge concert in Sarajevo, which Bono ended by urging the crowd to "Kiss the Future". "Culture was one of the main things that gave us the power to survive that period," said Mirsad Purivatra, a founder of both the wartime cinema and the Sarajevo Film Festival. He described how people would pack into the basement to attend cultural events and meet friends, rushing home before curfew. Federal law requires background checks only for purchases made through the approximately 80,000 businesses that sell, ship, import or manufacture weapons licensed through the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. BEIJING, July 26 (Reuters) - The artistic director of Moscow's state-owned Bolshoi Ballet has vowed that his company will eventually perform in the West again, having been subject to a cultural boycott since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The storied ballet company performed at Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts on Tuesday in its first international tour since the pandemic. Speaking in Beijing on the eve of the performance, artistic director Makhar Vaziev insisted the troupe was "not suffering" from being unable to perform in the West. Cancellations in other Western cities soon followed, and creative collaboration with Western venues and choreographers evaporated. Several Russian and foreign leading dancers also quit the company in opposition to the Ukraine war, including former principal ballerina Olga Smirnova.
