LinkedIn's Economic Graph data team analyzed new connections made on the platform over a 12-month period by 3 million members who relocated to a new U.S. metro area in 2021. It doesn't come as a big surprise that New York City topped the list as the best metro area for newcomers looking to network. The New York metro area boasts a population of 23.5 million, making it the most populous region in the country. Despite being the smallest metro area on the list, Salt Lake City is the third-best area for networking by newcomers. It was also named the top city to start a new career in by WalletHub last year.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Max Scherzer has pitched only once since a miserable night in early September that saw the Houston Astros complete an overwhelming three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers. The Rangers acquired the 39-year-old right-hander from New York in a deadline deal in hopes of starts just like this. Scherzer was dealing with forearm tightness six weeks ago when he allowed seven runs — all on three homers — over three innings in the Astros' 12-3 win. This time, the Astros need to win at least two of three games to extend the series and get back home. “The way we look at it, we were one hit in each game away from winning those games.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Everything is certainly bigger deep in the heart of Texas this baseball postseason, with a Lone Star State showdown for a spot in the World Series. Bochy won three World Series titles with the San Francisco Giants and Baker finally got his first championship last season. Houston has dominated the AL West since the Rangers won the division in 2016, their last winning season before this year. The Astros had clinched the season series even before their obliterating three-game sweep with 16 homers and 39 runs in Arlington from Sept. 4-6. BALTIMORE (AP) — If Max Scherzer is going to pitch in this postseason, he'll have to hope the Texas Rangers advance at least one more round. ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Phil Nevin will not return as the Los Angeles Angels' manager next season. Nevin was promoted to the Angels’ top job in June 2022 when Joe Maddon was fired in the middle of a 14-game losing streak. But prices are shooting up in Jersey City as its neighbors refuse to build. AdvertisementAdvertisementNew Yorkers have been taking notice of Jersey City real estate for years, and its popularity as an alternative to the ever-less-affordable housing market in the city is growing. Between 2010 and 2018, Hudson County, which includes Jersey City, built housing at more than twice the rate that New York City did. New housing in Jersey City is overwhelmingly market rate rather than being explicitly built as affordable housing for lower- and middle-income residents. "The issues facing Jersey City tenants are multifaceted, but the primary concern is to guarantee housing stability."

[1/7] An abandoned vehicle sits in floodwaters during a heavy rain storm in the New York City suburb of Mamaroneck in Westchester County, New York, U.S., September 29, 2023. Systems producing intense rainfalls have become more commonplace in many parts of the United States, including the New York City area, in recent years. That storm soaked New York City and caused widespread power outages in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
