CNN —Incoming Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. died Saturday in an apparent cliff-diving accident at a reservoir about 20 miles from the school’s campus, the university said in a statement. The university identified the victim as Seldon, 22, who was joining the football team this year after two seasons at New Mexico State University and two at the University of Michigan. “Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own,” said Utah State interim Head Coach Nate Dreiling, who had joined the program after serving as New Mexico State’s defensive coordinator for two seasons. Seldon, who played all 15 New Mexico State games in 2023, transferred into the football program over the summer and was set to start classes this fall, according to the university. “Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate,” Dreiling said.

Since then, I've traveled to all 50 states solo, and although I've found beauty in all corners of the United States, I haven't felt a desire to move anywhere else. I love visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park, which is home to the tallest sand dunes in North America, and Colorado National Monument, which has a Utah-like red-rock canyon landscape. Colorado is home to four major national parks, including Great Sand Dunes. Great Sand Dunes is home to the tallest sand dunes in North America, Black Canyon of the Gunnison has some of North America's steepest cliffs, and Mesa Verde preserves the cliff dwellings and rich history of the Ancestral Puebloan people. Most US states observe equitable distribution, meaning all property acquired during the marriage is divided fairly at a judge's discretion. Nine US states observe community property law, where marital assets are split 50-50. Which states are community property states in a divorce? In community property states, marital assets — and debts incurred by either spouse during the marriage — are divided 50-50. A court may also deem marital assets "quasi-community property" if, at the time they were acquired, the couple lived in a non-community property state but later moved to and filed for divorce in a community property state.

As the president isolates at his beach house with COVID-19, his team is under mounting pressure, with top Democrats reportedly pushing for him to drop out. This morning's defectors join 20 other House Democrats and two senators who have called on the president to step aside. In his opinion piece entitled, "It's time for Joe Biden to pass the torch," Casten said that he believes Biden will lose the general election. Read previewThe involuntary manslaughter charges against Alec Baldwin over the 2021 death of "Rust" cinematographer Halyna Hutchins has been dismissed, but the actor isn't able to put all the legal proceedings behind him just yet. While a New Mexico judge dismissed the case after determining that the state withheld key evidence from Baldwin's defense, the actor still faces civil lawsuits from Hutchins' family. Baldwin's lawyers have sent letters to New Mexico prosecutor Kari Morrissey and Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza asking them to preserve documents for future litigation, according to Reuters. Related storiesArmorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for the film's prop weapons, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March and was later sentenced to 18 months in prison. On Tuesday, Gutierrez-Reed filed a motion to dismiss her conviction after the involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin were dropped.

Related storiesPfizer's big trial of more than 1200 patients, out in April, suggested that maybe taking Paxlovid can prevent a few hospital admissions among the frailest, most vulnerable patients, but it's tough to say. Instead, the team determined that the shape of the cut marks was consistent with those made by stone tools. “The cut marks were not randomly distributed but focused on those skeletal elements that harbored large muscle packs like the pelvis and the tail,” he said. A detailed examination of cut marks on the fossils revealed they were made by stone tools in a deliberate sequence. Along with three perforated giant sloth bones found in Brazil that archaeologists believe humans used as pendants 25,000 to 27,000 years ago, the butchered armadillo bones suggest that humans were in South America a surprisingly long time ago. “Until recently, the traditional model indicated that humans entered the continent 16,000 calendar years ago,” he said.

Travis King, the US soldier who ran across the border from South to North Korea last year, is in plea negotiations with military prosecutors, according to King’s attorney. Rosenblatt declined to provide details of the plea agreement which was first reported by Stars & Stripes. A spokesperson for OSTC declined to comment on the possibility of a plea deal but said prosecutors did not object to delaying the Article 32 hearing. The day he crossed the border into North Korea, King was supposed to have boarded a flight back to Texas, but he instead left the airport after US Army escorts left him at the security checkpoint. He then went to Fort Bliss; when he arrived, Rosenblatt said, King was ordered into pre-trial confinement where he has remained since October 18.

The unequivocal victory by Alec Baldwin’s legal team in a New Mexico courtroom on Friday has lifted the threat of criminal liability for the actor’s role in the fatal shooting of the cinematographer on the set of the movie “Rust.” But several lawsuits brought against him after the tragedy still loom. Litigation was filed by “Rust” crew members and the family of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was killed when an old-fashioned revolver that Mr. Baldwin was positioning for a close-up discharged a live bullet that should not have been on the set. The proceedings against Mr. Baldwin were held off somewhat by the involuntary manslaughter case, which fell apart in a stunning series of events on Friday. The lead special prosecutor called herself to the stand before the judge dismissed the case permanently, determining that the state had intentionally withheld evidence from Mr. Baldwin’s defense that could have helped him. Mr. Baldwin walked out of the courtroom in tears.

CNN —The dramatic dismissal of the involuntary manslaughter case against actor Alec Baldwin over withheld evidence could mean the release of convicted “Rust” movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed from a New Mexico state prison, legal experts say. But the Baldwin case imploded on Friday – just two days after the trial began – with the sudden and shocking twists and turns of a nail-biting legal thriller. “I fully expect Hannah Gutierrez Reed to make the same argument for her conviction to be overturned,” Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor, told CNN. Her ruling regarding the failure to disclose the ammunition should carry significant weight in the Gutierrez Reed case, CNN legal analyst Joey Jackson said. Hannah Gutierrez Reed will go free as well.

Donald Trump is on a winning streak, which is all the more remarkable because he's barely played the game. He's in the strongest position any Republican presidential hopeful has been in July since George W. Bush in 2000. So he can see why some might think he is taking a risk by focusing on abortion rights in campaigning to Latino men. For decades, Democrats saw the issue as a losing one with Latinos, who tended to be more religious and to say abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. Some strategists still consider it a risky subject among Hispanic men, who have typically expressed more concern about the economy. But Mr. Vasquez, who represents a border district in New Mexico, and several other Hispanic male Democratic candidates said there was no avoiding the abortion debate this year. They point to polling and Democratic electoral victories in the two years since Roe v. Wade was overturned that capture how Latinos’ views on the issue have reversed.

The items, however, were cataloged separately from Baldwin’s case, excluded from the “Rust” case inventory and not tested to see if they matched the lethal round, according to Poppell’s testimony. Attorney Luke Nikas embraces actor Alec Baldwin during his trial on involuntary manslaughter at Santa Fe County District Court in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on July 12, 2024. Dismissal with prejudice is warranted to ensure the integrity of the judicial system and the efficient administration of justice.”Gutierrez-Reed’s attorney, Jason Bowles, said he will move to dismiss her case following Baldwin’s case dismissal.

Last week, Sabato's Crystal Ball moved Michigan from "Lean Democratic" to "Toss Up" and Minnesota from "Likely Democratic" to "Lean Democratic." If accurate, the latest poll numbers would narrow Biden's path to victory, as he is already fighting in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
