[1/3] A general view of damage in the historic city of Marrakech, following a powerful earthquake in Morocco, September 9, 2023. The extent of damage to Marrakech, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was not yet clear on Saturday morning though most of the main historic sites in the old city appeared largely unscathed. Standing in front of a pile of rubble elsewhere in the old city, with elegant archways rising up behind it, Marrakech resident Miloud Skrout said the damage had blocked alleyways making it hard to help trapped residents. Some houses also fell in the tightly packed old city, though residents told Reuters that these appeared to be mostly uninhabited. "We are glad to see foreign tourists join to give blood following this painful event," he added.

CNN —When the Perseverance rover landed on Mars in February 2021, it wasn’t alone. NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Sciences is now using NYUAD’s map in its Mars 24 software, which maintains precise timings on Mars. Stock futures are near flat Tuesday night as investors came off a losing session that marked the latest leg down in an August slump. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures were also both little changed. The moves follow a losing session on Wall Street, with all three of the major indexes finishing more than 1% lower on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 ended the session below its 50-day moving average, which could signal a downturn ahead. The Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 are on track to end 5% and 3.3% lower, respectively, while the Dow is slated to drop 1.7%.

The artworks that make up the Lunar Codex will be miniaturized in nickel NanoFiche. Peralta originally intended the Lunar Codex to include only his own works, such as "Sonnets from the Labrador," but reconceived the project as a global endeavor during the pandemic. CNN —An ancient skull dating back 300,000 years is unlike any other premodern human fossil ever found, potentially pointing to a new branch in the human family tree, according to new research. Scientists believe the late Middle Pleistocene, which started around 300,000 years ago, was a pivotal period for the evolution of hominins — species that are regarded as human or closely related — including modern humans. However, this discovery, along with other recent research, is slowly changing what people know of the evolutionary pattern in the late Middle Pleistocene. It is similarly shaped to the mandible of Homo sapiens, our modern human species that evolved from Homo erectus. “More fossils and studies are necessary to understand their precise position in the human family tree,” she said.

Cramer says don't get too caught up in top-down analysis

CNBC's Jim Cramer told investors on Monday not to solely rely on analysts' top-down, broad market assessments. According to Cramer, it's imperative to also pay attention to micro-analysis of a company's performance when buying individual stocks. "After all these years, I've come to know one immutable truth: There's no monopoly on stock market knowledge," Cramer said. Top-down analysts, Cramer said, might fixate on how the Federal Reserve's rate hikes might affect the company. Cramer stressed that he is not just "cherry-picking" names and instead said there are many companies that often defy macro expectations.

The US even reminded everyone just how influential the buck is when it effectively froze Russia out of the global financial system with sanctions last year. Becoming the issuer of the global reserve currency is about trust. The US has controlled the global reserve currency for 102 years — giving it a special status in the world economy. Still, given that the country controlling the global reserve currency holds that status of an average of 94 years, history seems to indicate it's high time for a successor. Why shouldn't the financial world resemble something closer to the mosaic of cultures, politics, and nations that exists today?

The first time the director Steven Soderbergh and the screenwriter Ed Solomon worked together was on the murder mystery “Mosaic” (2017), which could be watched as a choose-your-own-adventure-style story using a smartphone app or as a six-episode HBO mini-series. “Mosaic” drew mixed reviews, but the two men learned a lot doing it. The idea was greenlighted in 2021, and Solomon started writing two versions that would tell the same story differently. “When I got the schedule and I saw the number of days and the page count of just the linear, I was like, ‘This is physically impossible,’” Soderbergh said in a recent joint interview with Solomon. He added: “I had visions of ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ — that this was going to become a legendary folly.”

The company that possesses the exclusive salvage rights to the Titanic shipwreck and the ship’s artifacts filed in federal court on Saturday a map of the surrounding seabed that shows where searchers found the twisted remains of the Titan submersible. The map, a mosaic of sonar images that were annotated by experts at the company, RMS Titanic Inc., helps indicate how close the craft was to its intended destination when disaster struck. The vehicle very likely imploded on the morning of Sunday, June 18, killing all five crew members. RMS Titanic’s director of underwater research was on the last dive of the tourist submersible as a guest of Titan’s owner, OceanGate. The seabed map, attached to a legal filing as an exhibit, shows the ghostly outline of Titanic’s bow section.

Brewer said her Grand Canyon tours stood out because she'd drive guests from Phoenix to the national park in her van. Her Grand Canyon day tour has 666 reviews and an average rating of 4.97, while her tour of Antelope Canyon has 103 five-star reviews. Brewer started tours based on her own knowledge of the area, then picked up extra tidbits from speaking to park rangers and listening to the local radio station every day. Brewer doesn't ask people to leave reviews to avoid being "pushy," but she sometimes mentions her Instagram if it comes up in conversation. "The people that are going to leave reviews are people that are inspired on their own to leave a review," she said.
