Strong overall results from Nvidia and more artificial intelligence developments outweigh the chip stock's gaming center miss in its recent quarterly print, analysts say. The chipmaker on Wednesday posted better-than-expected quarterly results , driven by growth in its data center business that includes AI chips. CEO Jensen Huang added during a call with analysts that AI is at an "inflection point," leading businesses to purchase its chips for machine learning software. And, while the company's gaming business is unlikely to rebound to its pandemic heights, it looks "largely derisked" going forward, wrote Morgan Stanley's Joseph Moore. He added that this segment could become a steady 10% growth business for the chip maker.
Last quarter, Nvidia said tech giant Microsoft was deploying “tens of thousands” of its GPUs in its cloud unit Azure to train and use AI. Microsoft-backed OpenAI's ChatGPT runs entirely on Nvidia chips, Piper Sandler analyst Harsh Kumar said. Revenue from the data center business was $3.62 billion for the fourth quarter, slightly below analyst estimates of $3.84 billion. Gaming chip sales were $1.83 billion, beating analyst estimates of $1.52 billion, according to Refinitiv data. Adjusted profit was 88 cents per share for the fourth quarter, beating analyst estimates of 81 cents.

Feb 21 (Reuters) - Canada's Suncor Energy Inc (SU.TO) said on Tuesday former Exxon Mobil Corp executive Rich Kruger would take over as its chief executive from April 3, replacing interim boss Kris Smith, sending its shares up nearly 3% in afternoon trading. Kruger, a near 40-year veteran of Exxon (XOM.N), served as CEO of Imperial Oil Ltd (IMO.TO) for six years before retiring in 2019. "Investors are likely going to see this as a key reason to expect a complete positive change in the safety culture at SU," Eight Capital analysts said. Smith replaced Mark Little as CEO in July following a worker death, which was the fifth fatality at the company since 2019. The company named Smith as its finance chief in place of Alister Cowan, who plans to retire at the end of the year.
Virgin units Virgin Aviation TM Ltd and Virgin Enterprises Ltd argued Alaska is liable to pay a roughly $8 million “minimum royalty” payment every year until 2039. Virgin granted a trademark licence to Virgin America to use its brand in connection with the operation of a U.S. domestic airline before Alaska Air Group Inc. completed its $2.6 billion acquisition of Virgin America. Alaska merged its operations with Virgin America in 2018 and stopped using the Virgin brand the following year. Virgin told London’s High Court in October that Alaska, as the legal successor to Virgin America Inc, is obliged to make the annual payment. The judge added that the terms of the agreement “must be approached from the perspective of Virgin and Virgin America ... and not from the perspective of Alaska”.

REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst/File PhotoTAIPEI, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC (2330.TW) said on Tuesday its board had approved a plan to boost the capital of its chip factory in Arizona by up to $3.5 billion. TSMC in December tripled its planned investment at the Arizona chip plant, which began construction late last year, to $40 billion. The factory, among the largest foreign investments in U.S. history, will start production in 2026, using advanced 3 nm technology. TSMC expects its Phoenix factories to create 13,000 high-tech jobs, including 4,500 under TSMC and the rest at suppliers.

A potential cause of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin's jarring collapse and cardiac arrest — witnessed in real time by millions of viewers watching "Monday Night Football" — was immediately recognized by heart experts who also happened to be watching the game. In a statement, the Buffalo Bills has only said that Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest, when the heart stops beating properly, and is now in critical condition. While there are several potential causes for Hamlin's cardiac arrest, cardiologists suggested that a rare phenomenon called "commotio cordis" was to blame. It is in this exact moment, experts say, that a blow to the chest in the exact right place can launch an otherwise healthy person into cardiac arrest. But there are several other reasons a person may go into cardiac arrest.
TSMC starts volume production of most advanced chips in Taiwan

TAINAN, Taiwan, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd (TSMC)(2330.TW), began mass production of its most advanced chips in southern Taiwan on Thursday and the company's chairman said it would continue to expand capacity on the island. The long-awaited mass production of chips with 3-nanometre technology comes as attention focuses on the world's largest contract chipmaker's investment plans at home and abroad. TSMC has a dominant position as a maker of advanced chips used in technology from cellphones to fighter jets. Taiwan's government has dismissed concerns about a "goodbye to Taiwan" trend for the chip industry, saying the island's position as a major semiconductor producer and maker of the most advanced chips is secure. TSMC said it was working to build factories for the next generation 2-nanometre chips, which were planned to be manufactured in northern and central Taiwan.
Starting with the Trump administration, the United States has been tightening the noose around China's high-tech ambitions. But why worry about older chip technology? “28 nanometer” refers to a chip technology commercially used since 2011. But it is a giant in older technology, including chips that regulate power flows in electronics. The importance of older chip technology hit the industry in the face in 2021 as a shortage of those chips prevented manufacturing of millions of cars and consumer electronics.
So, I make sure that they're leaving some money behind, and that they take care of basic estate planning. Estate planning, I've found, is important for everyone to address no matter how much money you have. In the following two stories from my childhood, some level of estate planning could have vastly improved each situation. Multiple family members started collecting money to pay for Bill's funeral, which caused some disagreements because some family members were asked to contribute more money than others. Mark's wife predeceased him so there was no real clarity on who would get ownership of his house as he had multiple children and there was not much estate planning completed.
PHOENIX, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC (2330.TW) on Tuesday estimated annual revenue of $10 billion when its two planned chips fabrication plants open in Arizona. TSMC said Tuesday it was more than tripling its planned investment in the factories to $40 billion. U.S. President Joe Biden and others, including the CEOs of major TSMC customers, are attending a "tool-in" ceremony for the symbolic moving of the first equipment onto the shop floor of the new $12 billion facility. "When completed with both fabs, we will manufacture over 600,000 wafers a year, representing $10 billion in yearly revenue and with our customers product sales over $40 billion a year," said TSMC Chief Executive Mark Liu. Apple Inc (AAPL.O), Nvidia Corp (NVDA.O), and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD.O), all major TSMC customers, said they expected their chips to be made in the new Arizona plants.
Since 2020, Mark Lin has brought in at least $1.2 million selling food-scented slime from his garage in Burbank, California. Lin's company Sliimeyhoney was profitable almost from its inception, despite being run by a high school student at the time. Lin made the slime himself, hired 11 friends to help package and ship it, and sold $50,000 worth of product in his first year, he said on the show. Wonderful," said he'd invest $150,000 for 30% of the company if Lin could create a "Wonder Slime" flavor for his followers. John suggested that Lin stick with $150,000, because Sliimeyhoney already had a healthy cash flow.

Nov 15 (Reuters) - FTX Trading's new CEO John J. Ray III, a lawyer tapped to lead the collapsed crypto exchange's restructuring, previously oversaw the $23 billion bankruptcy of energy firm Enron Corp and has a reputation for boosting creditor recoveries. Ray, 63, on Monday declined to comment on his initial priorities as FTX's CEO. Serving as Enron's CEO throughout its years-long bankruptcy, Ray's work resulted in major settlements with banks accused of helping Enron deceive investors, including a $1.66 billion settlement with Citigroup in 2008. Mark Lichtenstein, an attorney who worked on Enron's bankruptcy, saw many parallels between FTX and that case. "You’ve got such a meltdown, similar to Enron, sort of a run on the bank," Lichtenstein said.
Across the country, election officials have received hundreds of threats or menacing messages that cite debunked conspiracies involving the machines. Some have alleged without evidence that Dominion machines were rigged in plots involving Chinese communists, Venezuelan socialists or Antifa, the loosely organized U.S. anti-fascist movement. Among those calling for Louisiana to ditch Dominion machines is the state’s Republican National Committeewoman, Lenar Whitney. Authorities in the heavily Republican state acknowledge that their aging Dominion machines, most of them bought in 2005, are outdated. Dominion machines remain in use in 14 of Nevada’s 17 counties.
