Bank of America says silicon-based chips are expected to grow to $10 billion by 2027InfiniBand (IB) and ethernet can both be used for AI computer networks. But Bank of America expects the global AI software market to reach $900 billion by 2026, up from just under $600 billion this year. But generative AI isn't like your average search engine. As big-tech cloud providers begin to integrate generative AI into their centers, the demand for things such as networking silicon is set to skyrocket. The investment bank expects ethernet to attract most of the $10 billion market share, growing from $500 million to $6 billion by 2027.

June 20 (Reuters) - Cisco Systems (CSCO.O) on Tuesday launched networking chips for AI supercomputers that would compete with offerings from Broadcom (AVGO.O) and Marvell Technology (MRVL.O). The chips are being tested by five of the six major cloud providers, Cisco said, without naming the firms. Cisco is a major supplier of networking equipment including ethernet switches, which connect devices such as computers, laptops, routers, servers and printers to a local area network. "G200 & G202 are going to be the most powerful networking chips in the market fueling AI/ML workloads enabling the most power-efficient network," Cisco fellow and formerly principal engineer Rakesh Chopra said. Cisco said the chips could help in carrying out AI and machine learning tasks with 40% fewer switches and a lesser lag, while being more power efficient.

Unlike the ridiculous short squeezes that brought about GameStop 's (GME) meme-stock maina 2½ years ago, the current market is making some sense. That means by Wednesday's Club meeting, right ahead of the Fed rate announcement, we could have a backdrop suggesting that we deserve to broaden. Bottom line Until Wednesday's Club meeting you know my mindset. As a subscriber to the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer, you will receive a trade alert before Jim makes a trade. NEW YORK, June 1 (Reuters) - Short sellers in U.S. shares related to the semiconductor industry are down $18.31 billion in mark-to-market losses for the year to date, including $7.2 billion in losses since last week's rally in Nvidia's stock (NVDA.O), according to financial data firm S3 Partners. The PHLX semiconductor sector index (.SOX) gained roughly 15% in May and hit an over one-year high. "The Semiconductor sectors have been an investing desert for short sellers," S3 Partners analysts wrote in the report this week. In addition, S3 cited Marvell Technology Inc (MRVL.O), Broadcom Inc (AVGO.O) and Ambarella Inc (AMBA.O) among stocks prone to a short squeeze. "We expect short covering in these stocks as short sellers look to trim their exposure and limit future mark-to-market losses if these stocks continue to rally," S3 analysts said.

Why this chip stock could be the next Nvidia

Those who missed Nvidia's recent surge may want to consider putting their money in one overlooked artificial intelligence beneficiary: Marvell Technology. The stock surged 181% this year on AI tailwinds. "Not sure we can make sense of the recent AI rally, but this is a name that belongs in the basket." Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya called the chip stock an "underappreciated" AI beneficiary in a recent note. "All in all, MRVL AI revenue is expected to grow at a 100% CAGR from FY23-FY25," Malik said.
Morning Bid: Debt deal is near, Fed peak is not

Investors juggled these three strands over the past 24 hours, with top-line equity index relief from the Nvidia-inspired spur to artificial intelligence and chip stocks everywhere. And the banking stress that changed the picture in March appears to be settling too, judging by the latest central bank numbers. Friday brings some hope that White House and congressional leaders can ink a deal on lifting the U.S. debt ceiling they indicated overnight was now close - just before the Treasury Department runs out of cash from June 1 next week. Anxieties in the Treasury bill market only eased a touch, and one-month bill yields remained above 6% early Friday. Shares of Marvell Technology continued a significant overnight rally Friday, surging about 32% off the back of quarterly earnings results that beat on the top and bottom lines. On an analyst conference call, Marvell CEO Matthew Murphy said the company had begun to reassess how it looked at the "tremendous" business potential of AI. "In FY2023, MRVL estimated its AI revenue to be ~ $200 million, representing a strong uptick from FY22. The company expects AI sales to reach ~$400M+ in FY24 before doubling in FY25," the note from Citi's Atif Malik said. Many semiconductor firms experienced a lift from Nvidia's Wednesday blowout earnings report.

Consider: On Wednesday, the price-to-earnings ratio for Club holding Nvidia was 66.1 based on full-year 2024 estimates, and 49.1 based on 2025 projections. As a result, the valuation, which is simply price divided by the forward estimates, declined materially. Marvell shares soared 28% on Friday after the semiconductor company reported an earnings beat Thursday after the bell. But the update we got from Nvidia management this week shows Nvidia is actually a better value Friday than it was a week ago. But while the chipmaker remains the undisputed leader in the AI arms race, it's far from the only company benefiting from the frenzy overtaking Wall Street. NVDA 1D mountain Nvidia shares pop While Nvidia's results seem to reiterate its clear chip dominance, other names are gaining buzz on Wall Street and could see big gains as AI booms. Advanced Micro Devices Similar to Nvidia, Wall Street forecasts opportunities for Advanced Micro Devices in the near future. Needham also believes Taiwan Semiconductor's capabilities offer a "shortcut" for companies big and small looking to get into the competitive AI chip market. Its new delivery systems to help reduce power delivery network losses should also benefit shares in the long run.

With the end of another earnings season in sight, Wall Street's attention has turned to Washington and the debt ceiling deadline. Republican negotiators on Friday walked out of talks on raising the debt limit , abruptly ending a positive week of discussions that appeared to be leading toward a deal. Democrats and the White House have been pushing for a "clean" hike to the debt limit that would push the next deadline past the 2024 presidential election, while Republicans are pressing for spending cuts. Many investors believe this ongoing game of chicken over the debt limit is largely for show, since the U.S. has never defaulted on its debt obligations. U.S. President Joe Biden hosts debt limit talks with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and other congressional leaders in the Oval Office at the White House in Washington, U.S., May 9, 2023.
