CINCINNATI (AP) — Getting into the end zone seemed tougher for the Los Angeles Rams when it mattered most on Monday night. The Rams suffered a 19-16 loss to the Bengals in their first regular-season rematch of the Super Bowl after the 2021 season. While the Aaron Donald-led defense kept Cincinnati without a touchdown in the first half, the Rams' offense behind a young, banged up offensive line couldn't capitalize. His pick in the second half led to a Cincinnati field goal. The Rams averaged more yards per play than Cincinnati — 5.6 yards to 4.2 — but they couldn’t string enough plays together.

Logan Wilson intercepted Matthew Stafford twice and the Bengals (1-2) recorded six sacks to hold Los Angeles' offense at bay. The Rams (1-2) were held to three field goals from Brett Maher before Stafford found Tutu Atwell for a 1-yard TD with 1:03 left in the game. Four plays into Los Angeles' first drive, Atwell took an end around and raced to the end zone from 24 yards out. Both kickers traded field goals later in the quarter, with McPherson's 53-yarder as time expired in the first half sending the teams into the break tied at 6-6. McPherson added two more field goals to push Cincinnati's advantage to 10 before Stafford connected with Atwell for the late score that gave Los Angeles a fighting chance.

CNN —The Miami Dolphins put on an offensive masterclass Sunday, defeating the Denver Broncos 70-20 in their home opener and scoring the second most points by a team in a regular season game in NFL history. The Vikings sent a 2026 conditional sixth-round draft pick to the Rams for Akers and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick in the deal, which was pending Akers passing a physical. It's unclear how much money Crews made in total during his NFL career, which included 32 games for the Rams, San Diego Chargers and Washington Redskins. New York CNN —Dan and Tanya Snyder agreed to sell the Washington Commanders franchise to a group led by Josh Harris on Friday, according to a statement from from the team and the investment group. The group also includes NBA legend Magic Johnson as well as Mitchell Rales, the billionaire co-founder of conglomerate Danaher. Harris’ ownership groups include Johnson and billionaire Mitch Rales, Harris’ longtime sports business partner. Snyder first purchased the team, which was then known as the Washington Redskins, for a reported $750 million in 1999. The only franchises from other sports worth more than that $5.6 billion estimated value are the New York Yankees and New York Knicks.
So there was extra attention around this year’s “Mr Irrelevant” – Desjuan Johnson, a defensive lineman out of the University of Toledo drafted by the Los Angeles Rams as the 259th and final pick. “Just be getting picked, final pick, first pick, middle pick, everything [is] unique,” Johnson said, according to ESPN. “My dad was on my mind today,” said Johnson, who was just four years old when his father died, according to his university website. “Just to learn from him, from watching film and now get to sit next to him and just take notes, I’m going to just be like a newborn,” he said. “I feel like I’m going to be like a newborn, trying to take as much in [and trying] to learn under him.”

Deal close for Washington Commanders football team

If finalized, the sale would mark the end of the controversial ownership of the Washington franchise by embattled billionaire Daniel Snyder. News of the near deal was first reported by Sportico, which reported the team sold for $6 billion, a record for a North American sports franchise. Snyder purchased the team, then named the Washington Redskins for a reported $750 million in 1999. It adopted the Commanders name last year, after playing two seasons with the name Washington Football Team. “Today marks the end of a long, difficult chapter for all employees and fans of the Washington football organization,” read a statement from Lisa Banks and Debra Katz, two attorneys representing more than 40 former Washington Commanders employees.
