Nearing the junction with the Santa Fe River we could hear music; a crowd of boats was anchored along the forest edge. Close to two miles after starting, we passed the outflow from Blue Hole Spring, the largest spring in the group that feeds the Ichetucknee, and paddling became less strenuous. We reached North End launch, where the river begins with water from its headspring.

The shooting took place in the Israeli-occupied southern West Bank, which is normally calmer than the north. A 6.4 magnitude earthquake had just struck Rio Dell, California, upending homes and lives for the community of 3,400 people near Oregon. “It’s a gamble to not have it,” Rio Dell City Manager Kyle Knopp said. A whopping 90% of homes in California aren’t covered by earthquake insurance, according to Glenn Pomeroy, CEO of the California Earthquake Authority, a nonprofit quake insurer established by the state. Gavin Newsom proclaimed an emergency for Humboldt County, where Rio Dell is located, in part to help local governments access services. Despite seeing how costly earthquake damage can be, she doubts she’ll buy earthquake insurance for her next home.

Rome CNN —History buffs will be able to stroll close to the spot where legend says Julius Caesar met his bloody end, when Rome authorities open a new walkway on the ancient site on Tuesday. According to tradition, he died in the capital’s central Largo Argentina square - home to the remains of four temples. They are all currently below street level and up until recently could only be viewed from behind barriers close to a busy road junction. From Tuesday, visitors will be able to move through the site at ground level on the walkway and see the structures up close. Italian fashion house Bulgari funded the work at a site that was first discovered and excavated during building work in Rome in the 1920s.
