CNN —At least 14 Palestinians were killed in the refugee camp Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, following an Israeli military raid, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Militants and Israeli forces can be heard exchanging gunfire. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said Thursday that the death toll in the West Bank has risen to 176. The Palestinians were either killed by Israeli forces or Jewish settlers, the ministry said. Hours later, videos obtained by CNN shows the forces surrounding the house and the explosion inside the refugee camp.

A video of a security guard forcefully detaining a child on a train platform was filmed in Sweden in 2015 and the child was not killed, contrary to online claims that the clip shows an Israeli police officer strangling a Palestinian child to death in October 2023. The clip, however, was filmed in February 2015 in Sweden. No media outlets reported that the boy had been killed in the encounter. Swedish newspaper Sydsvenskan reported in April 2015 that the security guards would not be prosecuted. The video of a private security guard violently detaining a child was filmed in Sweden in 2015, not Israel in 2023.

An image of an injured journalist covered in bandages reporting for a Lebanese TV station in October 2015 has been shared without context online amid the 2023 Israel-Hamas war. In a Nov. 6 post on messaging platform X, formerly Twitter, a user shared a screenshot of Al Mayadeen correspondent Hana Mahameed reporting on screen with bandages on her face and neck. Al Mayadeen did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Mahameed appeared in an Al Mayadeen report published on Nov. 6. The image is of a report from 2015.

Israel’s military said its forces conducted wide-scale assaults on Hamas infrastructure in Gaza. Several Palestinian families have taken refuge in vehicles after evacuating the northern part of the enclave. The decision, made in recent days, includes the transfer of roughly $30 million worth of automatic and semiautomatic weapons through licenses approved by the State Department. It comes as U.S. support for the campaign Israel is waging against the Palestinian-Islamist militant group Hamas inside Gaza receives new scrutiny. The international community has grown alarmed as thousands of innocent civilians caught up in the conflict have been killed with airstrikes and other operations as part of the Israeli ground incursion.

A spokesman for the health ministry in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip said Israeli forces had struck the camp overnight, killing at least 47 people. In a separate attack, 21 Palestinians from one family, including women and children, were killed in strikes overnight, the health ministry said. 'NO WORDS'"We demand that you stop them from committing these crimes immediately," Abbas told Blinken, urging an "immediate ceasefire" from Israel. The Palestinian health ministry said three Palestinians were killed in the incident, which it described as clashes with Israeli forces. The three proposed tranches of semiautomatic and automatic rifles are valued at $34 million and are being ordered directly from American gunmakers, but they require State Department approval and congressional notification. U.S. officials attributed that to the encouragement of settlers by the far-right government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and statements by some Israeli officials supporting the annexation of the West Bank. QUSRA, West Bank—On the morning of Oct. 12, Hani Odeh was considering a problem: how to get the bodies of four Palestinians shot dead during an attack by Israeli settlers to the cemetery in Qusra, where he is mayor. The four men had been killed the day before. Israeli police are still investigating the circumstances of the deaths, which came after Hamas’s massacre of over 1,400 people a few days earlier, and the Israeli military had instructed the mayor to change the route of the cortege from the hospital to avoid inflaming the situation further. Freedom of political expression in Israel with regard to the Israeli-Arab conflict, especially with regard to Israeli policy toward Palestinians, has always been precarious, especially for the Palestinian citizens of Israel. It shouldn’t be surprising: In societies that contain widespread nationalistic tendencies, as is sadly the case in Israel, war and national tragedies create the perfect environment for witch hunts and the accelerated branding of critics and minorities as enemies from within. The suppression of speech and targeting of critics of Israel’s policy toward the conflict has always had a strategic goal. Crushing dissent and eliminating the political force of Palestinian citizens of Israel are crucial conditions that must be met to achieve that goal. Attacks by Israeli forces and settlers have been pushing Palestinians out of their homes, the groups said. The last Gaza war in 2021 saw sometimes violent pro-Palestinian protests among the Arab citizens who make up 21% of Israel's population. Israeli police have arrested dozens of Arab citizens on suspicion of incitement and support for Hamas, based on social media posts. An additional measure has been the setting up of volunteer security squads to patrol the streets and back up police. Shabtai said security squads would be subordinate to police. "It is good that there will be a lot of security squads and force, but caution must be exercised with this," he said.
