Reddit said Friday that the Federal Trade Commission sent a letter to the company about its data-licensing business related to the training of artificial intelligence systems. "On March 14, 2024, we received a letter from the FTC advising us that the FTC's staff is conducting a non-public inquiry focused on our sale, licensing, or sharing of user-generated content with third parties to train AI models," Reddit said in an updated IPO prospectus. Reddit is targeting a $6.4 billion valuation for its IPO this year. The company is planning to sell 22 million shares, with a pricing range of $31 to $34. At the top end of the valuation range, the offering would raise $748 million. About 15.3 million of the 22 million shares will be sold by the company. Reddit's expected pricing range sets a fully diluted valuation range between $5.8 billion and $6.4 billion, marking a sharp decrease from the $10 billion private valuation the company achieved in its last funding round, in August 2021.

Reddit aims to raise up to $748 million as part of its upcoming IPO, in which the social media company is seeking a valuation of about to $6.5 billion. The company plans to sell about 22 million shares between a range of $31 to $34 per share, according to a corporate filing released Monday. Investors are closely watching Reddit's upcoming IPO, which will be this year's first major tech stock launch and the first social media IPO since Pinterest went public in 2019. Reddit's annual sales in 2023 were $804 million, which was a 20% year-over-year increase from $666.7 million, according to the company's S-1 filing. It also recorded a net loss of $90.8 million for 2023, which was narrower than the $158.6 million net loss it logged in 2022.

New York CNN —Reddit on Monday said it expects to price shares between $31 and $34 each when it makes its long-anticipated initial public offering, which will make it the first social media company to go public in years. Reddit, along with some existing stockholders, plans to offer 22 million shares of the company’s Class A stock, meaning the IPO could raise as much as $748 million from those shares, according to an updated prospectus. Reddit itself expects to earn approximately $450 million in proceeds from the IPO, if shares are priced at the midpoint of its expected range. Reddit is taking the unusual step of giving a portion of those users the opportunity to become shareholders by reserving 8% of its IPO shares, or 1.76 million shares, for its most loyal Redditors. The company has acknowledged that “Redditors’ participation in this offering could result in increased volatility” in its stock price.

Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways is gearing up for a potential initial public offering after increasing revenue in 2023 on the back of a 40% boost in passenger numbers. Asked about a possible listing, Etihad Airways Group CEO Antonoaldo Neves told CNBC on Tuesday, "I'm working to be ready, whenever it's the time." Talk of an IPO has been swirling after it was reported that ADQ, the Abu Dhabi-based investment company that owns Etihad Airways, was in discussions with banks about going public as soon as this year. "It's not for me to confirm the shareholder decisions," Neves said, while also signaling efforts to prepare the airline. If it materializes, an IPO would enable Etihad to tap capital markets to fund future growth and expansion plans.

Companies with upcoming IPOs can offer directed share programs to qualifying groups of retail investors to buy IPO stock. There's nothing like a moribund IPO market to create a pleasant backdrop for a bull run. Hot on the heels of the Reddit deal is the expiration of the IPO lockup period for Arm Holdings on March 12. I thought it might occur after the successful Arm deal, but like so many nascent attempts to revive the IPO market there was nothing worth following up with until the Reddit deal. The Federal Reserve's rate-cut signal in December triggered a furious rally to record highs, unleashing animal spirits that are fueling similar speculative activities from the depths of the pandemic. "The animal spirits are reviving," Michael Hartnett, chief investment strategist at BofA Global Research, said in a phone interview. "Animal spirits, they don't necessarily start with the biggest animals in the jungle," Quincy Krosby, chief global strategist at LPL Financial, said by phone. Team owners will meet at the annual league meeting in March to discuss private equity. The investment ownership model is favored in the NBA, MLB and NHL— but not in the NFL. So, what will a rule change mean for institutional investors and their Wall Street brokers, as well as owners and sports fans? Experts also think NFL team owners' "wealth would increase drastically," said Rotthoff— due to the considerable profits they've already made from team valuations in the past decade. Wall Street investment banks could also benefit in their role as advisors to wealthy investors and sports teams, including helping to connect buyers with sellers.

There are various ETFs that hold recent IPOs, including the Renaissance Capital Greenwich Funds' Renaissance IPO ETF (IPO) . The 200-day moving average is the most popular long-term moving average and one of the best long-term trend indicators. The IPO ETF bounced from the line last fall and has been trading above it through the first two months of 2024. Reddit's initial public offering will include a quirk that allows some of its most active users to buy the stock. "Our users have a deep sense of ownership over the communities they create on Reddit. We want this sense of ownership to be reflected in real ownership — for our users to be our owners. But the Reddit users that participate in the IPO will not be subject to a lock-up agreement, the filing said, which could add to volatility in the stock. Reddit users have already proven that they have a taste for trading volatile stocks.

Elon Musk has had it with Delaware — but don't expect other corporations to flee the business-friendly state, too. Musk also specifically went after the judge who ruled to void his pay package, Kathleen McCormick, calling her an "activist and politician" in an X post. "The reason Elon Musk frequently escapes account from other judges is because they don't see through his phantabulating," Lauren Pringle, editor of the Chancery Daily, which covers Delaware courts, told the outlet. Advertisement"I don't expect a mass migration of firms from Delaware," Michal Barzuza, a professor at the University of Virginia who researches corporate law and governance, told the Post. So, despite Musk's latest crusade against the state, it seems unlikely many other Delaware-based corporations will jump ship anytime soon.

Wall Street is forecasting a better backdrop for companies that want to go public. While lower rates can stoke the IPO market, fewer rate cuts because the economy remains strong with cooling inflation should still be viewed as favorable. The IPO market and mergers and acquisitions (M & A) activity started to sour when the Fed began hiking interest rates back in March 2022. A strong IPO market overall is expected to also benefit burgeoning biotechnology firms, which would mean more business for Danaher. A once-bustling group of companies, backed by billions in venture capital funding, saw a record year for IPOs in 2021. Now, three years later, most of those direct-to-consumer, or DTC, companies still struggle with profitability.
