Electric vehicle sales are booming, and an effort is underway to blanket the country with new charging stations. I’ve been renting electric cars ever since Hertz started offering Teslas as an option a couple of years ago. Whenever I needed to power up, I found one of Tesla’s fast charging stations and was back on the road with a nearly full battery in less than an hour. But when I arrived in Minneapolis for a reporting trip this summer, the Tesla I had reserved wasn’t available. rentals, this would be a bit of a road trip, the kind of long drive through sparsely populated farmland that is a hallmark of American car culture.

A 2015 law requires rental car companies with 35 or more vehicles to complete recall repairs before renting vehicles. The agency is requiring Zipcar, a unit of Avis Budget Group (CAR.O) since 2013, to submit an audit report of all Zipcar vehicles with uncompleted recall repairs at any time within 150 calendar days after the effective date of the settlement. On Monday, Zipcar said the settlement stems from a 2017 recall in which less than 50 of 12,000 vehicles of its global fleet were found in violation. Zipcar added the recall "was a unique mileage-based recall that did not require the immediate grounding of the vehicles" and added the vehicles are no longer in its fleet. "Vehicles with open, unrepaired recalls pose a safety risk to everyone on the road," said Ann Carlson, NHTSA's acting administrator.

How Many Credit Cards Should I Have?
  + stars: | 2023-10-10 | by ( Gerri Detweiler | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +17 min
Use this guide to identify what kind of credit card user you are—and how many credit cards you should have. A secured credit card can be a smart option if you don’t have a very good credit score. Most small business credit cards require a good personal credit score and sufficient income from all sources, not just the business. However, many business credit cards don’t appear on consumer credit reports, which means they don’t impact your credit scores as long as you pay on time. Similar to choosing a personal credit card, pick your business credit cards based on your spending habits.

Treasury yields jumped last week, with the 10-year Treasury hitting its highest yield since 2007. Long duration stocks, which have the bulk of their projected earnings and cash flow far off in the future, have started to underperform short duration stocks that are generating significant cash already. For investors looking for short duration stocks that have not yet started to outperform, shares of rental car company Hertz Global are down 20% month to date. Overall, the short duration stocks highlighted by Goldman have lower valuations and a stronger near-term earnings picture than the long-duration stocks. 50% of companies in the Long Duration basket are expected to post negative EPS in 2023, compared with 6% for Short Duration," Kostin said.

A Hertz customer found 10 pounds of rancid meat in his rented Tesla's front trunk, the WSJ reported. He told Insider the rotting meat had burst from its packaging and was oozing all over the frunk. The next renter made the unlucky discovery: Costco bags and a 10-pound pack of rancid meat that he told Insider was absolutely pungent. "Buried underneath the pile of groceries was the source of the stink," Marc Froemelt told Insider. He told Insider that he noticed the strange smell, but attributed it to odors from the roadside.

"For most of our history, profitable wasn't the first thing that came up when you asked someone about Uber," Khosrowshahi said on Uber's second-quarter conference call Aug. 1. The $1 a ride alone can add up to $4,000 to a driver's annual revenue, the company says. All of them will compete for customers on Uber's platform much as hotels search for business on Expedia.com – a business once run by Khosrowshahi. Indeed, one threat to Uber's current status as a market darling is if AV makers, especially Tesla, decide to compete with Uber directly for riders, Zino said. Khosrowshahi told Sellers that 10-20% of Uber drivers may soon be robots, but said he still thinks more people will be driving for Uber than there are today.

Amazon does not disclose how many data centers it occupies, where they are located, or how much electricity they consume. Many of Amazon's data centers listed in the permits have been built recently and some may still be under construction. "You cannot run a data center based on the variability of solar and wind," Boston said. Any producer of renewable energy can sell one REC for every megawatt hour of renewable energy it generates. Brady, the Cushman & Wakefield data center executive, said that data centers often match their backup generation to the capacity of a data center's power supply.

The three penny stocks, up in the range of 40% to 120%, were the most actively traded U.S. shares at 10:45 a.m. Amyris (AMRS.O) and WeWork (WE.N) were the second and third most traded stocks by retail investors, respectively, while Proterra (PTRA.O) was twelfth on the list at 10 a.m. Some of the latest speculative bets on the penny stocks were pinned on hopes of a merger and acquisition or a turnaround for the struggling businesses. Another set of retail traders are looking to capitalize on the volatility, especially by squeezing bearish investors on highly shorted stocks. Last week retail traders had piled into shares of Tupperware Brands (TUP.N) and trucking firm Yellow (YELL.O).

NEW YORK, July 24 (Reuters) - Electric-vehicle charger operator EVCS is looking to raise $125 million, according to a document seen by Reuters, as it races to expand its network of fast chargers eightfold by 2025 and capitalize on the U.S. government's push to boost EV adoption. EVCS, which operates its own network of fast chargers as well as stations for clients such as Hertz and Hilton, plans to increase its network to 2,100 fast chargers by 2025 from 260 currently and focus on the U.S. states of California, Washington and Oregon, according to the document. A person familiar with the matter said a $125 million investment would represent a large minority stake in the business. Reuters was not immediately able to ascertain what valuation the company or its advisers had arrived at for the entire business. The deals between Tesla and rivals also could make it easier for operators to cater to virtually all EVs.
