Former President Donald Trump repeated a broad range of false claims, internet rumors and outlandish conspiracy theories during Tuesday night’s presidential debate, many of which might have seemed unintelligible without a deep understanding of obscure corners of far-right social media. Late in the debate right before the second break, Trump released a torrent of vague claims alleging corruption in the Biden administration. “At this debate, it was Trump who relayed a (false) online social media meme about migrants eating cats that showed his team in its own bubble,” he wrote. During Tuesday’s debate, one of Trump’s bizarre claims related to abortion. Midway through the debate, Trump spoke about election security and alleged that an unspecified “they” are trying to get illegal immigrants to vote.

WINDER, Ga. — Many students in Georgia’s Barrow County headed back to class Tuesday, six days after a shooting killed two teachers and two students at the school district’s Apalachee High School northeast of Atlanta. No return date has been set for the 1,900 students at that high school, but the 13,000 students in Barrow County’s other schools did return, including at the middle school and elementary school that border the Apalachee campus in Winder. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Opening statements were expected Wednesday in the federal trial of three former Memphis police officers charged with federal civil rights violations in the January 2023 beating death of Tyre Nichols. Police video released that month showed the five officers, who also are Black, beating Nichols as he yelled for his mother about a block from his home. The officers said Nichols was pulled over for reckless driving, but Memphis’ police chief has said there is no evidence to substantiate that claim. The three officers now facing trial, along with Martin and Mills, were fired for violating Memphis Police Department policies. They had been members of a crime suppression team called the Scorpion Unit, which was disbanded after Nichols’ death.

PHILADELPHIA — Former President Donald Trump found out Tuesday night that he's got a much tougher rival on his hands now. Harris, eager to portray herself as different from both Trump and Biden, reminded him that Biden won't be on the ballot. Trump said Harris has had 3½ years to make the changes she promises to make and argued the Biden-Harris administration squandered progress Trump gave them. Trump and Harris also clashed over the 2020 election, with Trump again falsely claiming that he won. Throughout the debate, Harris needled Trump in ways that undermined his self-image as a popular, strong leader whom American’s adversaries fear.

Trump went on to repeat false claims that there was "so much proof" that he won the election. And he dodged when asked about whether he had any regrets about his actions on Jan. 6. Other Jan. 6 defendants continue to maintain their belief in Trump's election lies. Trump's inability to acknowledge the reality of his 2020 election loss, Harris said, raises questions about Trump's "temperament" and his "ability to not be confused about fact," calling it "deeply troubling." Trump, who has called Jan. 6 defendants "hostages" and "unbelievable patriots" and has said he'll pardon "a large portion" of Jan. 6 defendants, said Tuesday that Capitol riot defendants had been "treated so badly."

In this debate tonight, you’re going to hear from the same old, tired playbook, a bunch of lies, grievances and name-calling. The Biden administration kept some Trump tariffs imposed on China, but Harris opposes Trump’s plan to impose new tariffs on all foreign goods. But he said he would have done things differently than Biden after Trump struck an agreement with the Taliban. One of the debate moderators asked if Trump thinks it’s appropriate to comment on the racial identity of his opponent. - TrumpHarris, on the other hand, said Trump has a history of trying to divide the country around race.

Army Secretary Christine Wormuth discussed plans at the 2024 Defense News Conference last week when she spoke on some of the potential follow-ups for longer-range artillery after the cancellation of its Extended Range Cannon Artillery program. "We still believe that we have a requirement for, you know, sort of an artillery system with that kind of range," Wormuth said. Advertisement"I think we may also be looking at sort of what we call, you know, 'innovating at the round,' looking at what can we do with the actual round to increase the range," Wormuth said recently. The US-made armored vehicles, which offer maneuverability, versatility, and sufficient firepower, have proven valuable to Ukraine efforts on the battlefield — more so than the main battle tanks and other heavy armor it's received. The US announced a new military aid package for Ukraine valued at $250 million to meet Ukraine's critical defense needs. One reason is that its received more Bradleys than it has main battle tanks from Western nations.
