Donald Trump is reaching for racism against his political opponent — this time, against former South Carolina Gov. "I know President Trump well," Haley recently told CNN's Jake Tapper in response to Trump's insults. Among the nicknames Trump has reportedly brainstormed for DeSantis, one of the names he thought of for the Florida governor, according to a New York Times report, was "Meatball Ron." Name-calling can backfireSome political consultants have argued that Trump's name-calling is an effective campaign tactic. "Whatever effect we found was all focused on the actual attacker," Dusso told BI in an interview.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris is taking center stage in the Democrats' renewed push for abortion rights during this year's election and she will mark the 51st anniversary of the Roe v. Wade ruling on Monday in Wisconsin. The White House has repeatedly turned to Harris, the first woman to serve as vice president, to make its case. Although he is a longtime supporter of abortion rights, he mentions less often and sometimes avoids using the word abortion even when he discusses the issue. Abortion has reshaped Harris' tenure as vice president after earlier struggles when dealing with intractable issues like migration from Central America. “The president and the vice president appeal to different parts of the party," Simmons said.

But she must still prove she can make a head-to-head duel with the ex-president last through Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary and beyond, after Florida Gov. But Haley faces an existential question for her own campaign Tuesday. “They’re all all coming with us,” Trump noted with satisfaction at a rally in Rochester, New Hampshire, on Sunday night. An unexpectedly high turnout of undeclared voters powered late Arizona Sen. John McCain to a shock victory in the 2000 GOP primary against George W. Bush. But Haley’s problem is that most Republican voters may not want what she’s offering.

The New Hampshire Republican presidential primary is just two days away, and representatives for the major candidates were busy Sunday with TV appearances and campaign events. When asked whether DeSantis canceled his appearances on the Sunday shows because he did not want to talk about his “dire” poll numbers, Massie focused his attention on former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who stands with 39% support among likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire to Donald Trump's 50%. The state's governor, Henry McMaster, has also endorsed the former president, as has Sen. Lindsey Graham. As for the upcoming contest in New Hampshire, a state that allows independents to participate in the primary process, Vance accused some of those voters of being “liberals” who moved to New Hampshire from Massachusetts and insinuated Haley’s campaign strategy is “getting liberals to vote for you in a Republican primary,” adding “it doesn’t work nationally.”

Manchester, New Hampshire CNN —Donald Trump is demanding far more than a win in Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary. That’s what we are here to tell you what we in South Carolina want,” 76-year-old Gov. It was also a clear attempt at intimidating Haley into folding her campaign if she loses Tuesday, before the race even gets to South Carolina. In the CNN poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire, Trump has expanded his lead with 50% support among likely GOP voters while Haley stands at 39%. The former South Carolina governor suffered a similar enthusiasm gap in Iowa, and after Sunday, she has only a day to turn it around in New Hampshire.

Nikki Haley entered a seafood shack in Seabrook, N.H., on Sunday afternoon with some news for the crowd: Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, was no longer running for president. “We just heard that Ron DeSantis has dropped out of the race,” Ms. Haley, the former South Carolina governor, said to cheers from the several dozen attendees. “And I want to say to Ron, he ran a great race, he’s been a good governor and we wish him well.”“Having said that, it’s now one fella and one lady left,” she continued, holding up two fingers, to more cheers. She added: “For now, I’ll leave you with this: May the best woman win.”Ms. Haley and her allies have long sought to frame the presidential race as being between herself and former President Donald J. Trump, even as she finished third in the Iowa caucuses. With Mr. DeSantis now out of the race, that argument became much more salient — though recent polling averages put her 15 percentage points behind Mr. Trump in New Hampshire.

CNN —Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley on Saturday questioned Donald Trump’s mental fitness after he appeared to confuse her with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when talking about the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. ATLANTA (AP) — Donald Trump used his social media platform Friday to mock Nikki Haley 's birth name, the latest example of the former president keying on race and ethnicity to attack people of color, especially his political rivals. She has always gone by her middle name, “Nikki.” She took the surname “Haley” upon her marriage in 1996. Haley has dismissed Trump's latest attacks as proof that she threatens his bid for a third consecutive nomination. Trump has a long history of using race, ethnicity and immigrant heritage as a cudgel. He was born in Hawaii, though Trump spent years asserting Obama had manufactured the story and a birth certificate to support it.

CNN —Former GOP presidential candidate and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott endorsed Donald Trump on Friday in New Hampshire. We need Donald Trump,” Scott said while appearing on stage with the former president at a campaign event in Concord, New Hampshire. Trump’s inner circle had originally hoped that Scott would endorse before the South Carolina primary, sources familiar with internal discussion told CNN. Prior to the 2024 campaign, Scott had long been friends and political allies with Haley. In 2012, Haley appointed Scott to the vacant seat left by Sen. Jim DeMint, saying Scott had “earned the seat” from his personality and record.

In other words, registered Democrats may vote only in the Democratic primary, and registered Republicans may vote only in the Republican primary. Unlike some other states, New Hampshire Republican delegates are not allocated by congressional district. DECISION NOTESTrump won a competitive New Hampshire primary in 2016 with 35% of the vote, more than double the showing of his nearest competitor, then-Ohio Gov. In the 2020 primaries, ballots cast before Election Day made up only 7% of Democratic primary votes and 4% of Republican primary votes. Let's be real: It's all on the line for Nikki Haley in next week’s Republican primary in the Granite State. If the former South Carolina governor can't win in New Hampshire, I'm not sure where she can win. (This has historically been the case, and, no, registered Democrats can't vote in the primary, unlike what Trump has said.) New Hampshire Republicans tend to be on the relatively wealthy side compared to other Republican primary electorates. It's more to say that Haley has no real statistical argument for how she can win the nomination if she can't win in New Hampshire.

CNN —Nikki Haley’s goal in New Hampshire’s Republican presidential primary Tuesday is to “be strong,” she said at a CNN town hall Thursday night. Ron DeSantis, Haley didn’t mention him at all during the town hall. When the questions were focused more specifically on Trump, Haley sounded more like a disappointed parent than an angry politician. Haley doubled down, saying that America was founded on the idea that all men are created equal. “I know President Trump well,” Haley said.

The former president publicly fulminated against Judge Lewis Kaplan as “nasty” and a “Trump-hating guy” and bucked courtroom etiquette. Trump accused Kaplan of being heartless for not suspending the trial so that he can attend the funeral of his mother-in-law. But Haley has only implicitly criticized Trump’s assault on democracy, false claims of electoral fraud and tumultuous term in office. This attitude is consistent with Trump’s apparent belief that rules that apply to other Americans don’t constrain him. “That aside, it’s just remarkable how much the former president has gotten away with in court.

Trump has also baselessly questioned whether Vice President Kamala Harris, whose parents are immigrants, was eligible. Sen. Marco Rubio, the Florida Republican who Trump also bested in that 2016 primary with taunts of “Little Marco,” also again endorsed Trump this week. It is actually Trump who faces more legitimate questions about his eligibility under the 14th Amendment. It is not true, as he alleges, that Democrats can take part in the GOP primary. “You have a group of people coming in that are not Republicans, and it’s artificially boosting her numbers here,” Trump said.

Nikki Haley might have come in third in the Iowa caucuses, but as she campaigns in New Hampshire for its first-in-the-nation primary next week, her attention is squarely focused on only one rival: Donald J. Trump. Ms. Haley, a former South Carolina governor who served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Mr. Trump, has begun fine-tuning her argument against her former boss, trying out new jabs and unleashing a new attack ad right out of the gate. She has also stepped up her efforts to frame herself as Mr. Trump’s top rival, announcing that she would no longer participate in primary debates that don’t include him. In recent remarks and in a new television ad, Ms. Haley paints Mr. Trump and President Biden as two sides of the same coin: politicians past their prime who are unable to put forth a vision for the country’s future because they are “consumed by the past, by investigations, by grievances.”At a campaign rally on Wednesday in Rochester, N.H., she fended off Mr. Trump’s attacks on her immigration record, warned voters not to believe his ads against her and reminded them that it was Mr. Trump who had wanted to raise the age for Social Security eligibility and had once proposed increasing the gas tax.

The candidates challenging the former president had hoped to find enough dissatisfaction with him to build their own voter coalitions. Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor, had shown signs in polling of consolidating college-educated Republicans, such as those in the suburbs or college towns of Iowa, as well as voters less committed to conservative causes.

Haley says US has ‘never been a racist country’

CNN —Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley claimed the US has “never been a racist country” during an interview with Fox News on Tuesday. If that’s not the American dream, I don’t know what is,” she said, a day after she came in third in the Iowa Republican caucuses. And we will get it done.”When asked by host Brian Kilmeade if the GOP is a racist party, Haley made a broader point that the US has “never been a racist country.”“We’re not a racist country, Brian. Mr. Trump has refused to participate in any debates so far. Ms. Haley, a former ambassador to the United Nations under Mr. Trump and a former South Carolina governor, finished third in the Iowa caucuses on Monday just behind Mr. DeSantis, the Florida governor. After failing to overtake Mr. DeSantis in Iowa, Ms. Haley faces heightened pressure in New Hampshire, where polls have shown her within striking distance of Mr. Trump, who dominated in Iowa. She has accused Mr. Trump of ducking his opponents. “He has nowhere left to hide,” Ms. Haley said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mr. Trump’s overwhelming victory again demonstrated his enduring command of the Republican Party. Ron DeSantis of Florida narrowly pulled ahead of Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor. Their close finish gave both a rationale for continuing their campaigns, which is likely to help Mr. Trump. After so many months of attacks between her and Mr. DeSantis, the old political trope held true: In 2024, there are three “tickets” out of Iowa. But Mr. Trump rides away on a bullet train.

Ron DeSantis of Florida may have done just enough in the Iowa caucuses on Monday night to argue that he still belongs in the race to defeat Donald J. Trump for the Republican presidential nomination. But his distant second-place finish had all the feelings of a disaster, given how much time and money he invested in the state, and it calls into question his ability to stay in the nominating contest, with his campaign cash running low and tough tests ahead in New Hampshire and South Carolina. Mr. DeSantis, who entered the field as one of its most compelling contenders, just barely managed to hold off a late surge from Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor. Mr. Trump defeated both candidates so soundly on Monday night that the race was called in his favor by The Associated Press just 31 minutes after the caucuses got underway. The early call — while some Iowans were still caucusing — gave Mr. DeSantis’s team a lifeline to blame the news media for a disappointing performance.
