Boss Vincent Clerc is not alone in trying to manage a crisis that is battering the container shipping world and which analysts at DNB Markets reckon could last up to 2030. He may also suspend the company's share buyback programme which has been put under review. Investors – spoilt by 16 consecutive quarters of earnings growth up to September – knocked 17% off the company’s share price following the news. The unit, which handles container shipping, reported a 56% drop in third-quarter sales due to a steep fall in freight rates. The World Trade Organization halved its growth forecast for global goods trade this year.

Pfizer can recover from its post-Covid fatigue

Pfizer reported plummeting demand for its Covid vaccines and treatments, with an overall revenue decline of over 40% compared to last year, and a $2.4 billion loss that included a $5.6 billion charge for Covid inventory write-offs. Pfizer now thinks 2023 revenue from shots and pills for the disease will total about $12.5 billion, over a 75% decrease from last year. Peers trade at around 5 times sales, and if Pfizer did too its enterprise value would be about $235 billion. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Allen threw two touchdown passes and ran for another — shrugging off aggravating an injury to his throwing shoulder — and the Buffalo Bills hung on to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-18 on Thursday night. After a week of questions about his “low-energy” approach and Buffalo's slow-starting offense, Allen came through for the Bills (5-3), throwing for 324 yards on 31-of-40 passing. Buffalo’s defense limited the Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield-led attack to less than 200 yards of offense through three quarters and 302 overall. But it took Tampa Bay 17 plays and 7:21 to march 92 yards for that score. Allen took advantage, topping 300 yards for the 23rd time in his career.

OpenAI is in talks to complete a deal that would value the company at $80 billion or more, nearly triple its valuation less than six months ago, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions. Brookfield pounces on two new green trends
  + stars: | 2023-10-03 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
LONDON, Oct 3 (Reuters Breakingviews) - European green assets are starting to look cheap. That’s the implication of Brookfield’s $1 billion swoop on Banks Renewables, one of the UK’s largest green energy developers. Having largely deployed a $15 billion energy transition-focused fund outside Europe, the Canadian investment giant’s new geographical focus is unlikely to be a one-off. Amid a green bubble in early 2021, when Orsted was worth $80 billion, Banks might have fetched way more. While Banks is big in onshore wind farms, the bulk of its 3.5 GW pipeline is focused on solar power and battery storage.
