Manchester United also got a much-needed 1-0 win at Burnley to snap a run of three straight defeats in all competitions. Everton registered their first league victory of the season, producing an impressive display to triumph 3-1 at Brentford whose home struggles continued. A City win never looked in doubt once Kyle Walker set up Foden to thump in the opener after a 46-pass move and Haaland headed powerfully into the net from a cross by Matheus Nunes. "We played, I would say, 51, 52 minutes 10 against 11, so it was not easy, but we were fantastic," City manager Pep Guardiola said. Victory lifted Everton out of the relegation zone and up to 15th with four points, while Brentford, without a home win this season, are 12th on six.

Arsenal do not need extra motivation against Spurs, says Arteta

Sept 22 (Reuters) - Arsenal's Champions League group stage win this week was a confidence boost ahead of Sunday's game against rivals Tottenham Hotspur but the team does not need any extra motivation before a north London derby, manager Mikel Arteta said. Spurs are also on 13 points after four successive wins, with new coach Ange Postecoglou leading them to their best start to a top-flight season for 57 years. This game doesn't need any motivation, it's the most special game of the season," Arteta told reporters on Friday. Winger Gabriel Martinelli is still being assessed and has not been ruled out for Sunday's game, Arteta said. "He's loved by everybody, respected by everybody and he fully deserves what he's doing," Arteta said.

Trossard goal seals Arsenal win at Everton
  + stars: | 2023-09-17 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
LIVERPOOL, England, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Arsenal claimed their first Premier League win at Everton for six years as Leandro Trossard's second-half strike proved enough to secure the points at Goodison Park on Sunday. Everton, still without a win this season, had managed to frustrate the visitors who had a Gabriel Martinelli goal ruled out for offside via VAR in the first period. Unbeaten Arsenal joined Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool on 13 points from five games, two points behind leaders Manchester City who have a 100% record. Arsenal's last league win at Everton in 2017 ended the reign of Ronald Koeman and while Sean Dyche is unlikely to suffer a similar fate, he has a huge task on his hands. But Arsenal eventually unpicked their defence with a short-corner eventually being fed in to Martin Odegaard who released Bukayo Saka on the right side of the penalty area.

By January 2022, he had increased his stake to 94.1% with a 100 million pounds capital injection. Everton's most recent figures showed a fifth straight year of losses -- 44.7 million pounds for the 2021-22 season -- with their total loss over that period amounting to over 430 million pounds . Under Premier League rules, teams can make a maximum loss of 105 million pounds over three years, although special allowances were made for the COVID-19 pandemic. Everton's statement said the investment from 777 Partners would strengthen the club's balance sheet and guarantee "full funding" of the stadium.

Wasteful Everton rue missed chances in Sheffield United draw

For the third time this season Everton created more than enough chances to take all three points, but just like against Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers, they were not clinical enough in the opposition box. "The chance count has been getting better game by game and was decent again today. We got into some really good areas, and we keep looking a threat, but you have to score," Dyche said. "It is just the basics sometimes which are tripping us up, because I felt a lot of the performance was right again. "I feel like it is one that got away, we had enough in the game to win."

But anticipation is building for the visit of West Ham, who will become the first top-flight team to play a league match at Kenilworth Road since Aston Villa 31 years ago. The volume created by the Hatters fans crammed in on Friday will shake the 118-year-old stadium to its foundations. Forward Cauley Woodrow, who scored in the League Cup win at Kenilworth Road against Gillingham this week, said Luton needed to turn their home into an intimidating 'fortress'. Arsenal's priority will be avoiding any repeat of the early goals they have conceded on a regular basis at home of late. Andreas Pereira's strike for Fulham after 57 seconds last weekend meant the Gunners became the first Premier League team to concede a first-minute goal three times in a calendar year.

BIRMINGHAM, England, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Aston Villa claimed their first three points of the Premier League season as John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey and Jhon Duran scored to secure an emphatic 4-0 home win over Everton on Sunday. "Last week was tough for us, full respect for Newcastle, they did a job on us," McGinn told Sky Sports. Villa opened the scoring through McGinn, who turned in Bailey's cutback in the 18th minute to put the hosts ahead at Villa Park. The Merseyside club lost another key attacker to injury as Alex Iwobi was taken off with what looked like a hamstring issue, before Bailey scored Villa's third. LONDON, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Newcastle United face the first big test of their Premier League title aspirations on Saturday but the trip to champions Manchester City could be coming at the right time for the table-topping Magpies. "Thank you so much to the Premier League for letting us play on Saturday, and not on Sunday and Monday," Guardiola said sarcastically of the 72-hour turnaround from Wednesday's game. Newcastle have yet to win a Premier League match at The Etihad but the arrival of Italy's Sandro Tonali has boosted an already strong midfield featuring Brazil internationals Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. Guimaraes explained on a Brazilian podcast last month how much he has hated playing City in the past, so good were their players.
