CNN —Twenty-two-time grand slam singles champion Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from next week’s Laver Cup due to fitness concerns, the tournament announced on Thursday. “I’m really disappointed to share that I won’t be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week,” Nadal said in a statement. The Laver Cup has not announced who will replace Nadal to join Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas in Bjorn Borg’s Team Europe. Nadal announced in April that he would play in this year’s Laver Cup in Berlin and was still expected to play despite withdrawing from the US Open due to concerns about his fitness. This year, Nadal played in only seven tournaments including the French Open and the Olympics, but has failed to return to the form expected from the former world No.

In a statement Wednesday, his attorney said Combs “is shocked and disappointed” by Richard’s lawsuit. According to the suit, Richard tried multiple times to intervene, offered Ventura support and encouraged her to leave Combs. Like other lawsuits, including Ventura’s, Richard’s suit depicts Combs as violent and controlling. Throughout the productions of the “Making the Band” series, the suit alleges, she and the members of Danity Kane were deprived of basic needs such as adequate food and sleep. In her first public comments since being stripped of a bronze medal she appeared to have rightfully won, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles on Wednesday said she’s still seeking “justice” and “peace." Chiles, speaking at the Forbes Power Women’s Summit, said the situation regarding the disputed medal has taken a severe emotional toll. “At this rate, it’s not really about the medal, it’s about my peace and my justice,” the 23-year-old said at the conference. Once that scoring error was corrected, Chiles vaulted into third place and the bronze medal. PARIS — There are few sights more iconic than the Eiffel Tower and the Olympic rings. The multicolored logo adorned the Eiffel Tower during the Paris 2024 Games, just as they had hung from London’s Tower Bridge in 2012 and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 2000. However, Hidalgo announced in the French media Aug. 31 that the rings would stay on the Eiffel Tower, until at least 2028 and perhaps beyond. After days of mounting criticism, the Eiffel family weighed in. Nevertheless, the Eiffel family say they won’t climb down without a fight.

Read preview"What Nvidia's really good at is creating new markets," Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon at a technology conference hosted by the investment bank Wednesday. Solomon asked the most important question in tech today: Where is the return on investment from all this investment in AI infrastructure? AdvertisementFirst, in the age of generative AI, Huang said, cloud providers who buy Nvidia (and other) GPUs and rent them to tech companies, make $5 for every $1 they spend. Huang argued that upgrading existing data centers to "accelerated computing," or the parallel computing that Nvidia GPUs and other AI chips enable, is inevitable. Even if Nvidia's claims that AI computing is more energy efficient are true, the AI boom is expected to put massive pressure on electricity grids.

SYDNEY, Australia — Australia plans to set a minimum age limit for children to use social media citing concerns about mental and physical health, drawing a backlash from digital rights advocates who warn the measure could drive dangerous online activity underground. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his center-left government would run an age verification trial before introducing age minimum laws for social media this year. The law would put Australia among the first countries in the world to impose an age restriction on social media. Representatives of Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, which has a self-imposed minimum age of 13, YouTube owner Alphabet and TikTok were not immediately available for comment. Australia has one of the world’s most online populations with more than four-fifths of its 26 million people on social media, according to government and tech industry figures.
