Goldman Sachs will post a roughly $400 million pretax hit to third-quarter results as the bank continues to unwind its ill-fated consumer business. CEO David Solomon said Monday at a conference that by unloading Goldman's GM Card business, as well as a separate portfolio of loans, the bank would post a hit to revenues when it reports results next month. It is the latest turbulence related to Solomon's push into consumer retail. Goldman's credit card business, in particular its Apple Card, allowed rapid growth in retail lending, but also led to losses and friction with regulators.

U.S. adults will wager $35 billion this NFL season, according to projections from the American Gaming Association. Since last NFL season, Maine, North Carolina and Vermont have allowed sports betting operators to launch in their states. "The NFL season is our biggest acquisition period of the year," said Christian Genetski, president of FanDuel, the nation's leading sportsbook. Since then, Fanatics Sportsbook acquired PointsBet's U.S. operations and technology, which is now fully integrated. It first launched in November last year, smack in the middle of NFL season.

My husband is about to start his 19th year of teaching, our eldest is starting 7th grade, and our youngest is starting 1st grade. Most of our parent friends try to control for all the variables — school, teachers, and sometimes even friends or classmates — and we've learned that it rarely works as intended. Even though the school was "better" on paper, it did not mean it was the better academic situation for every student. My husband and I, who are actively hands-off when requesting teachers, broke our rule regarding our youngest starting pre-K in our public independent school district. Though her teacher was amazing, still, our youngest had a completely different experience and struggled through most of her first year.

As the parent of four children who's been back-to-school shopping for over a decade, I have realized the real key to surviving this time of year is being creative. With two in middle school and two in college, back-to-school shopping costs me almost as much as (if not more than) our family's most expensive holiday, Christmas. If nothing works out from last year's clothing, many secondhand stores will buy the kid's clothes that no longer fit. If they choose to spend more on school supplies, it will impact the amount they are allowed to spend on clothes.
