MIAMI (AP) — Khris Middleton had a thought pop into his head immediately after Milwaukee topped Miami to finish group play in the NBA’s In-Season Tournament with an unbeaten record. Boston outscored the teams in its group by 27 points, compared with a plus-22 differential for Orlando and plus-20 for Brooklyn. That meant the Celtics won East Group C.“You just know what the reason is,” Nets forward Mikal Bridges said. The West race didn't end up with quite as much drama as the East had with the down-to-the-wire differential chasing. The teams that lose in the quarterfinals will play a to-be-added regular-season game against each other, East vs. East and West vs. West.

The purple-pink streak of light indicative of Steve is shown in this image captured by Canadian photographer Neil Zeller. “It can eventually migrate south … toward the equator side of aurora and form a Steve,” Lach said. A Steve will always appear alongside an aurora, Lach and Zeller said, but not all auroras include a Steve. Global regulators to assess if more crypto safeguards needed
  + stars: | 2023-11-28 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Nov 28 (Reuters) - More measures may be needed to stop blow-ups at complex crypto firms like FTX from destabilising the wider financial system, the global Financial Stability Board (FSB) said on Tuesday. The vulnerabilities are similar to those found in traditional finance, including leverage, liquidity mismatches, technology and operational vulnerabilities, the FSB said in a report. Evidence suggests that the threat to wider financial stability and the economy is limited at present, it added. The FSB and IOSCO, a global body of securities watchdogs, have already published this year high level recommendations for supervising crypto activities. Regulators, however, should assess whether these measures adequately stop risks from crypto being amplified across the financial system, the report said.

REUTERS/Leonhard Foeger/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Nov 28 (Reuters) - OPEC+ talks on 2024 oil policy are difficult, making a rollover of the previous agreement a possibility rather than deeper production cuts, four OPEC+ sources said on Tuesday. Two of the sources said an additional cut - a step that sources have said would be looked at - was not being actively discussed. OPEC+ sources said this was because of a disagreement over output levels for African producers, though sources have since said the group has moved closer to a compromise on this point. OPEC's previous meeting in June had already extended output cuts into 2024.

It is also in advanced negotiations with Kretinsky's EP Equity Investment (EPEI) vehicle to "modify and simplify" some terms of its proposed 2 billion euro ($2.11 billion) sale of Tech Foundations, the group said. AlphaValue analyst Helene Coumes attributed the drop to "the endless uncertainty on the deal on Tech Foundations, the financing issues and how the change of some terms of the agreement will be favorable for the minority shareholders". The Tech Foundations deal would also see Kretinsky take a 7.5% stake in the group's cybersecurity unit Eviden, which is what would be left of Atos. LONDON, Nov 27 (Reuters) - A research foundation originally set up by Philip Morris International (PMI) (PM.N) will no longer accept any funding from the nicotine industry as it seeks to win credibility with tobacco control advocates, its CEO said. The foundation will now rebrand and find new funders from outside of the industry, Cliff Douglas said in an interview. Douglas, a long-time tobacco control advocate who joined the foundation in October, said he wants to see it re-established as a credible actor in ending smoking. Douglas pointed to a number of tobacco control advocates who have sounded positive about the foundation's new direction. The World Health Organisation says vapes, for example, are harmful to health.

A number of companies have recently demanded that antitrust enforcers pay default interest on fines in annulled antitrust cases. REUTERS/Thomas White/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Nov 22 (Reuters) - Britain needs a "digital alternative" to relying on Visa and Mastercard for card payments regardless of steps being taken by regulators, a report commissioned by the government said on Wednesday. The conclusions of the Future of Payments Review echo longstanding complaints across Europe about heavy reliance on the American duo for card payments, though calls and attempts to create a 'home grown' alternative have made little progress. Britain's Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) is reviewing the fees card schemes charge, a longstanding battle ground pitching Visa and Mastercard against 'merchants' charged for accepting their cards from customers making payments. Visa welcomed the review's conclusion saying that the UK payments landscape was in a good position. "We are keen to work with Government to ensure the UK continues to be at the forefront of payments innovation", it said.
