The chief justice said that the past year had been "difficult in many respects," but added that he and his colleagues were aiming to advance past previous challenges. Earlier this year, Ketanji Brown Jackson was nominated and confirmed to the Supreme Court, becoming the high court's first Black female jurist in its 233-year history.
