Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries and an alleged accomplice pleaded not guilty on Friday to sex trafficking and interstate prostitution charges. Jeffries’ romantic partner, Matthew Smith, who was also arrested on Tuesday on sex trafficking charges, wasn’t at the arraignment. Jeffries, Smith and Jacobson have each been hit with a single count of sex trafficking, as well as 15 counts of interstate prostitution tied to 15 alleged victims. They organized “sex events” in England, France, Italy, Morocco, St. Barts, New York City and the Hamptons for Jeffries, Smith and “others,” according to the indictment. Afterward, it was either Jacobson or the staff members who paid the men for attending the sex events, it says.

Here’s what you need to know:Which states have voting leave laws? Among states with voting leave laws, they most typically require employers to allow either one, two or three hours off. Most of the states requiring employers to permit voting leave also require that this time be paid. For instance, the leave laws in New York and California require you to give at least two days’ notice. Even if you live in a state without a voting leave law, your company may voluntarily permit time during working hours to vote.

CNN —Archaeologists have uncovered a tiny house in Pompeii that is filled with elaborate – and sometimes erotic – frescoes, further revealing the ornate way in which Romans decorated their homes. This change could have occurred due to shifting trends in Roman - and particularly Pompeian - society, during the first century AD, archaeologists said. Archaeological Park of PompeiiThis latest discovery spotlights the ornate decorations that rich Romans enjoyed in their homes – several frescoes depict mythical scenes and others are decorated with plant and animal motifs on a white background. Archaeological Park of PompeiiErotic and elaborate frescoes like this have been uncovered in Pompeii before. Elsewhere in this newly excavated house, the last ritual offerings left before the eruption still remain at the household shrine, known as a lararium.

CNN —Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Michael Jeffries pleaded not guilty to a 16-count indictment at his arraignment in a New York federal court on Friday. Jacobson was employed by Jeffries and Smith to recruit, interview and hire men to perform commercial sex acts for Jeffries and Smith, according to the indictment. His attorneys did not comment as they left the courtroom, and Jeffries is due back in court on December 12. Jefferies stepped down as CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch in December 2014, having run the company since 1992. “As we shared when the accusations were first made public in October 2023, we are appalled and disgusted by the alleged behavior of Mr. Jeffries, whose employment with Abercrombie & Fitch Co. ended nearly ten years ago,” Abercrombie & Fitch said in a statement Wednesday.

The campaign also spent a little more than $43,000 on Ubers since August 2022. D’Esposito campaign spokesman Matt Capp called the five-figure Uber charge “a filing error which will be corrected and does not represent an Uber invoice.”In one eyebrow-raising section of the filings, the campaign spent nearly $600 for a hostel in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Memorial Day this year. But there is no clear connection between much of the D’Esposito campaign’s spending at those establishments and official campaign fundraising events. Santos was expelled from Congress in December of last year and recently pled guilty to aggravated identity theft and wire fraud charges stemming from, among other things, misusing campaign funds during his 2022 midterm campaign. The FEC, an agency charged with enforcing campaign finance laws, keeps records of donor contributions and spending by campaigns and outside political groups.

As Wall Street financiers snapped up huge swaths of the nation’s rental housing market in recent years, the deals sailed through unchallenged. But large purchases of rental homes and apartment buildings by private equity firms like KKR are another cause, research shows. The Private Equity Stakeholder Project, a nonprofit that monitors the industry’s impact on individual Americans, has identified more than 5,100 apartment complexes owned by more than 30 private equity companies in America, totaling almost 1.4 million units. Jim Baker, executive director at the Private Equity Stakeholder Project, welcomes the scrutiny the senators are bringing to the KKR transaction. More than two-thirds of the apartment units in those states are owned by private equity, he said.

Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries was charged with sex trafficking on Tuesday. Attorneys for Jeffries and Smith told Business Insider in statements that they would respond "in the courthouse." "This is very much a military operation," Jeffries told The Wall Street Journal in 1997. The pilot accused the CEO of enacting similar standards on board as in Abercrombie stores and firing him due to his age.

“We are a positive, inclusive brand, with a nice sensibility, very different from what they encountered in the past,” Fran Horowitz, now Abercrombie’s CEO, said in 2016. Today, Abercrombie’s stores are lighter than they once were and its clothes are looser. Abercrombie’s sales have grown and its stock has increased more than 400% since Jeffries stepped down as CEO. But retail analysts say that Abercrombie’s brand won’t be hurt by the indictment because of how much separation Abercrombie has been able to create from its former CEO. Older Abercrombie customers who remember the brand’s sexualized marketing have accepted Abercrombie’s rebrand, while a new generation of customers are too young to remember the old era.

CNN —The US Army has been ordered by a federal judge to release records related to former President Donald Trump’s controversial August visit to Arlington National Cemetery by Friday at the latest. The group submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for any records relating to interactions between Trump campaign staff and the employee. CNN has asked the Army and the Trump campaign for comment. The incident also prompted the Army to issue the unusually sharp rebuke of the Trump campaign.

But now that Schweikert's sharing the ballot with Trump, he's not sweating that either.
