The Washington Commanders have an agreement with Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to hire him as coach, according to two people with knowledge of the decision. It’ll be Messi’s first Super Bowl commercial and adds to his massive advertising reach in the U.S. and globally. The Super Bowl spot is part of the beer’s sizable investment in soccer. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Last weekend's four NFL divisional round playoff games averaged 40.0 million viewers on television and digital platforms, the highest on record dating back to 1988. Sunday night's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills on CBS averaged a divisional round record 50.39 million viewers, according to Nielsen. It peaked at 49.1 million viewers as the Bucs mounted a final drive late in the fourth quarter. The Houston Texans-Baltimore Ravens game, which kicked off the weekend Saturday afternoon, drew 31.77 million on ESPN, ABC, ESPN+, making it the most-watched ESPN game since it started doing games in 1987. The audience for the Ravens' 34-10 victory peaked at 36.2 million during the third quarter.

Mike McCarthy will get another chance to end a nearly three-decade stretch without a deep playoff run for the Dallas Cowboys. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Wednesday night McCarthy will be back for a fifth season as coach after a stunning 48-32 wild-card loss to Green Bay. Dallas surged to the NFC East title in the final two weeks and had a chance for multiple home playoff games. “There is great benefit to continuing the team’s progress under Mike’s leadership as our head coach,” Jones said in a statement with several references to the disappointment of the playoff loss. Jones' statement made no mention of an extension.

The Dallas Cowboys are toast, and that is always amusing, but I shall write about the Kansas City Chiefs, because they were in “The Peacock Game.” The Peacock Game! For irritated fans, it immediately enters the Hall of NFL Infamy, alongside The Heidi Game, The Tuck Rule, and my favorite football calamity, Le Buttfumble. Here was a marquee Wild-Card weekend playoff contest, walled off from the nonpaying public, all because the NFL sold the game to a mega media conglomerate, NBCUniversal, which wanted to use it to attract new subscribers for Peacock, its paid streaming service featuring French bike racing and 19 zillion reruns of Law & Order.

Photo: tim heitman/ReutersThe Dallas Cowboys strutted into the playoff this year with the NFL’s top offense and a prime opportunity to end the team’s 28-year Super Bowl drought. The seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers routed the No. 2 Cowboys 48-32 at AT&T Stadium, and what was even more stunning than the Packers knocking off Dallas in the opening round is how easily they did it. Green Bay shredded the vaunted Dallas defense, bottled up its potent offense—and did it all on the Cowboys’ home turf, where the Cowboys were undefeated all season.
