CNN —A Woods was back in the winner’s circle this weekend – but not the one golf fans grew accustomed to seeing. This time, Tiger Woods played caddie to his son Charlie as the 14-year-old shot the best round of his fledgling career to win his age group’s regional qualifier for the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championships. “It’s hard to think, ‘You’re tied for the lead, you have to go shoot a low round to win this thing,’” the 14-year-old Woods told tournament organizers. Focus up, this is what we’re gonna do.’”Woods helps his son decide his next shot during the tournament. The 47-year-old Woods was also on bag duty at last year’s regional qualifier, held at the same venue, where a then-career-best 68 round saw his son finish tied-fourth.

In fact, the S & P 500's now-6% decline from its cycle peak began almost too perfectly, exactly as the often-tough month of August got underway, continuing into September, the worst month for stock performance through history. Similar reassuring stats are spit out when accounting for years when the S & P 500 was up more than 10% through July, or for pre-election years. The S & P 500 was oversold by some short-term measures, such as fewer than 15% of S & P 500 stocks sitting above their 10-day average price. That makes sense for sure, though it has meant that the equal-weighted S & P 500 is up only 1% this year and has tentatively broken a multiyear uptrend, while small-cap stocks are suffering worse still. And even for the market-cap-weighted S & P 500, the forward P/E is down from nearly 20 to 18 since late July, as prices have fallen, and analysts' forecasts have continued to plod higher.

… Your ex-husband’s fiancée would then have relevant information for deciding whether she wants to go through with the marriage. True, you might be dismissed as untrustworthy, but if they won’t believe the truth, that’s their problem. It seems the most painful part to her is the lies her ex told about her. There is unlikely to be any lasting peace in revealing the truth to the ex-husband’s fiancée, the fiancée’s ex-husband, or anyone else outside the writer’s circle of friends and family. Doing so will invite conflict that may just end up making the writer’s life more difficult and is unlikely to achieve any vindication.

He now lives with his fiancée, and it has since come out that they had been dating while we were married. They were both having an affair (she was married, and has several children), yet the fiancée’s ex-husband does not know about their indiscretions. The ex-husband travels extensively with our collective children, my ex and his fiancée, and my kids often ask me why I don’t join them. I’ve also found out that my ex-husband had several ongoing secret relationships with other women during our marriage, though his fiancée believes she was his first and only affair. Conversely, the values of truth and candor guide me in all of my other interpersonal relationships, and keeping such knowledge secret feels duplicitous and unethical.

Bahat brings this same radical directness to Bloomberg Beta, the early-stage venture capital fund housed within the larger Bloomberg empire that he's run for the past decade. And Bloomberg Beta was making investments in generative AI as far back as 2015, before the term "generative AI" even existed. "It felt like we were just waiting for the right moment," said Cham, Bloomberg Beta partner and de-facto chief technologist, "where the rest of the world would see it." Bloomberg Beta made the decision early on to publish its entire operating manual on GitHub, including sensitive information about average check size and investment criteria. Insider Today: Automating away CEOs

Today is always a difficult day, particularly here in New York, as we remember the innocent lives lost 22 years ago. But the group that seems immune to those concerns — CEOs — is primed for being usurped by robots, writes Ed Zitron. Ed's argument is straightforward: CEOs get paid a lot despite not providing much value for their companies. For all the talk of CEOs being transformational leaders full of business ingenuity, many are nothing more than figureheads. It's worth noting the difference in phrasing I'm using here: bad managers vs. great leaders. They may have the title, but all the best work gets done when everyone works together — themselves included. The best leaders make everything all about the objective — not about titles and rank, not about you or me, but about the shared goal. Great leaders work hard to make the whole greater than the sum of the parts. Here, too, great leaders recognize the power of their positions.

New York CNN —X owner Elon Musk is threatening to sue the Anti-Defamation League for defamation, claiming that the nonprofit organization’s statements about rising hate speech on the social media platform have torpedoed X’s advertising revenue. But the organization noted it recently met with X leadership, including CEO Linda Yaccarino, who Musk hired to help revive ad revenue. A #BanTheADL campaign has spread on X, and the ADL accused Musk of “lifting” the campaign. The ADL and other similar organizations, including the Center for Countering Digital Hate, have found that the volume of hate speech on the website has grown dramatically under Musk’s stewardship. Still, two brands last month paused their ad spending on X after their advertisements ran alongside an account promoting Nazism.

A Broadway alumna of “Hair” and “Frozen,” Levy from the start pulls you into her character’s increasing confusion. We see at the outset the difficulty Diana faces in simply making sandwiches, the bread laid out before her as if as if this routine domestic task were an unusual challenge. From there, the musical darkens to embrace shock therapy, attempted suicide and multiple hallucinations, the specifics of which are best left unrevealed. Several references move the world of the show on from a decade ago. (The London-based American performer Trevor Dion Nicholas ably doubles as the two doctors struggling to diagnose Diana’s condition.)

There was virtually nothing but rainforest for miles, and then the government agents spotted it: a makeshift shelter, the fire still smoldering. “He was just here,” said one of the agents, Jair Candor, crouching beneath the shelter in June as his partner snapped photographs. Candor had spent 35 years searching for a man who did not want to be found — and this time, he just missed him. That man, Tamandua Piripkura, has lived his life on the run. He has lived isolated, deep in the Amazon rainforest, his entire life, believed to be about 50 years.

Listening is the biggest and the most underused skill that helps drive empathy, and a lot of other things as well." Nearly all (96%) professionals consider themselves to be good listeners, according to 2015 research from Accenture, a IT consulting company. Corporate execs and lawyers with business before the Supreme Court mingled with some of the country's most influential jurists. Revelations about Thomas and Crow's relationship have prompted calls in Congress for the Supreme Court to adopt its first-ever binding code of ethics. But as a Supreme Court justice, Kagan is not currently bound by those rules. The Aspen Institute isn't alone in dangling Supreme Court access to lure deep-pocketed donors. Financial support for a public mission flowed one way, and scheduled private time with Supreme Court justices was dispensed in return.

Gálvez’s remarkable ascent comes as President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has levied a near-daily stream of attacks against her. The immensely popular López Obrador is barred under Mexican law from seeking re-election after completing his six-year term. However it dismissed a complaint from Gálvez that the president had violated laws against gender-based political violence. Yellen says US, China want to 'stabilize' relationship
  + stars: | 2023-07-10 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
WASHINGTON, July 10 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said she believes the United States and China want to stabilize their economic ties with "candor" and "respect." "There are challenges, but I believe there is a desire on both sides to stabilize the relationship and to constructively address problems that each of us see in our relationship, to do so frankly, with candor, with respect and to build a productive relationship going forward," she said. Yellen underscored that Washington was not looking to decouple from the Chinese economy, as Beijing fears, and noted that the United States and China would have almost $700 billion in trade this year, benefiting both sides. She said China has made many advances in recent years, including addressing a serious pollution problem in Beijing. "This is one of the most important bilateral relationships and economic and financial relationships that we have," Yellen said.

In an interview before his first official visit to Washington, Germany’s defense minister staked out a broad geopolitical vision, taking pains to indicate that his country is ready to assume a more assertive stance in the face of growing international instability. The defense minister, Boris Pistorius, laid out plans for Germany to increase its arms deliveries and take a more robust role in both the Indo-Pacific region and in military leadership in Europe. He spoke to The New York Times before traveling to meet his U.S. counterpart, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, as well as the national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, on Wednesday in Washington. The minister has been a part of Germany’s effort to change allies’ perceptions of his country as reluctant to take up leadership in Europe in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — a view fostered by its slow initial pace in delivering weapons to Kyiv and its stumbling efforts to fulfill a pledge to revitalize its own military. Mr. Pistorius’s candor when discussing such topics has made him one of Germany’s most popular politicians, even when he sometimes goes further than some Germans, still haunted by their country’s World War II history, find comfortable.

It was a pivotal moment for the AI industry. He agreed that large-scale manipulation and deception using AI tools are among the technology’s biggest potential flaws. On Tuesday, they seemed ready — or even relieved — to be dealing with another area of the technology industry. The AI industry’s biggest players and aspirants include some of the same tech giants Congress has sharply criticized, including Google and Meta. Here too, Altman deftly seized an opportunity to curry favor with lawmakers by emphasizing distinctions between his industry and the social media industry.
