Constellation Brands on Thursday reported earnings and revenue that topped analysts' expectations for its fiscal second quarter of 2024. The Mexican beer powerhouse, owner of the Modelo Especial and Corona Extra brands, reported double-digit sales growth in its beer business as the division continues to dominate the overall beer and high-end categories. The Modelo brand family was a particular bright spot: Modelo Especial grew nearly 9%, while Modelo Chelada brands posted growth of more than 40%. The company's wine and spirits brands, however, underperformed year over year. In its previous quarter, beer sales rose 11% year over year driven by stable consumer demand and higher pricing.

Crop Watch farmers in western Iowa, Kansas and southeastern Illinois reported fast harvest efforts last week. The Minnesota and eastern Iowa soybeans are in progress as of Monday, and the South Dakota soybeans could also be started on Monday. So far, the Crop Watch harvest is faster than a year ago but slightly slower than two years ago. “Nobody can beat this Canelo,” Alvarez said after he thoroughly dominated Jermell Charlo to retain his unified super middleweight championship. Round after round, Alvarez backed up Charlo, throwing one punch after another at his midsection. Finally, in the fifth, Charlo delivered some shots than landed on Alvarez in what was easily his best round. Perhaps feeding off the end of that round, Alvarez went back to being in control in the sixth. About minute into the seventh round, Alvarez sent Charlo to his right knee with a right hook and right uppercut.

However, most Crop Watch fields no longer benefit from rain as far as yield is concerned. Most Crop Watch producers have either not yet started corn or bean harvesting or are in the beginning stages. About 30% of the Crop Watch corn in southeast Illinois was completed on Sunday, and the early results would suggest downside to yield expectations rather than upside. Evan Phillips (2-4) pitched the 10th inning and Joe Kelly got the final three outs. After nine scoreless innings of terrific pitching on both sides, each team got a key at-bat from a pinch-hitter in the 10th. Fanatics has seen that area of its business grow to more than $5 billion in annual sales, a key driver of its increasing overall revenue and valuation. The slew of recent executive appointments moves Fanatics closer to Rubin's goal of an eventual IPO as its business continues to expand beyond sports merchandise. Low Ah Kee is replacing Doug Mack, who has served as Fanatics Commerce CEO since 2014 and announced last month that he would be retiring at the end of 2023. Fanatics said Mack will work with Low Ah Kee for the remainder of the year and then will shift into a special advisory role for Rubin and the company. NASA's James Webb Space Telescope discovered signs of a vast ocean on the planet K2-18 b. Astronomers can't directly look at the surface of the planet, called K2-18 b, but Webb analyzed its atmosphere for hints of what may lie below. That's a strong mark against the molecule's existence on K2-18 b. Confirming these findings requires a lot more observation of K2-18 b. As Blain put it: "K2-18 b is not exactly an Earth twin."
